Ronin Of Dreams -> =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:03:51)

Given the veritable flurry in the main thread of cross-confusing OOC notes...and the fact that I do need to be able to find any last-minute applications...this thread is for both Spike Arena and Fountain Arena competitors to make their OOC notices, commentary, and clarifications.

Trust me, its for all our sakes.

darkgillshadow -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:10:15)

First post! And I've managed not to make any off-color jokes yet.
Yup...though I gotta tell ya, it ain't EASY, man.

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:10:24)

Fountain Arena
Alright everyone, my first post is up, I apologize for the length. It was worse before I split up some paragraphs :P
If you have a question about my character, I will answer it as long as it has to do with the first post and it doesn't ruin anything.

The Dragon Knight -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:14:48)

hehe, trust me, dragon, you're not the only one making long posts. Believe it or not, I've actually been trying to keep mine SHORT.

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:15:29)

No, I know, doesn't make it any better though XP

Geddesmck -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 18:56:32)

I feel less guilty about posting now, huzzah! I've got to thank Ronin for this, it is a gift.

I've also got to thank Ronin for replying to my PM and actually running this whole thing while he is ill! You are amazing.

Anyway, I will begin building a post now. Expect it... tonight.

EDIT:

Posted. The pouch he landed on is not the one he is reffering to at the beginning. He has no access to any potions now (apart from perhaps one that may have survived). Anything else? Oh yeah, the pebble. Cale had ample oppurtunity to see the attack forming and Jon aimed while jumping backwards. At best it might hit an arm or graze Cale's torso, but I should think it would momentarily stop him in his tracks anyway.

darkgillshadow -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 19:28:34)

I have a few questions, just to clarify.
So, your character is wearing a hood that's made out of a thundercloud. Tight-fitting armor made out of...stone. And a cloak made out of dead leaves? But we're not supposed to be able to tell that it's dead leaves, right?
...how, exactly, do you make armor out of stone? Or any of that other stuff?
Y'know, out of curiosity dragon.

EDIT: Eh um and what exactly is he doing? Standing around in the arena playing his harp thing?

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 19:31:41)

Thats one I can't answer, but all of the above are samples of his power in different forms of creation basically. The stone armor is thin, not paper thin but not boulder thick, and it could be carved. How he carries the weight is another working of his power. His arms are covered in metal gauntlets, and his boots are really leg wear. I'll edit that. Oh yea, the armor is also flexible. I know, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but thats how it is. Another unmentionable.

Yes, hes playing the odd instrument, observing, and if you couldn't tell, the instrument is gathering information for him.

darkgillshadow -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 19:52:14)

Flexible is good. So if it's flexible, getting, oh, say, punched in the stomach would still hurt, eh?

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 19:58:00)

It can, depends on timing. Basically, the armor is made of stone, but the element of wind is present between all of the particles. The idea is, he can carry stone armor because he is carrying it with his element. When someone throws a punch, he can withdraw the wind from that area, and the area becomes pure stone. If he is not fast enough, it can be penetrated, and attacks will hurt. So, timed correctly, he is at a major disadvantage. Now, mind you, the stone armor, regardless of its molecular disruption, is still stronger than metal, otherwise I wouldn't bother with it. Plus, Vi'in is not "slow," so, you have to be tactical to land that punch, but it can certainly be done, seeing as Vi'in isn't god. Not too mention, when he withdraws wind from an area, the stone becomes heavy, so it can be exhausting to him. Seeing as this information is OOC, I'd appreciate not being taken advantage of, but I thought the information needed to be provided so I wasn't godmodding. I won't be giving that information IC, either, unless...a cookie is in the deal? haha

Geddesmck -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 20:01:20)

So, similar to the shield my character used dragon? It was floating earth, but could be turned into solid rock in order to block an attack (although mine was automatic). Yours is similar, but using the opposing element. :)

Not that it really matters to me for the moment. But you never know.

EDIT:
Hehe,
Spike = 30 Posts
Sky = 7 Posts
Fountain = 8 Posts
Cellar = 8 Posts.
2 years running I have been in the most active arena.

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 20:03:07)

I guess so Ged, didn't see that haha, sorry. I actually planned to use something similar in last year's EC, as in, I could make Earth float around me and be armor. Oh yea, and all of the Earth particles are securely captured by the wind element, so if any Earth elementals think it'd be fun to try and pull my armor off, it will take more than snapping in my direction XP

Xforce -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 22:02:46)

Keeping my first post normal sizes IS an issue for me. I'm hoping I can trim the silly thing to under two pages while leaving all the pertinent information my would-be-marauders require intact. Theres a lovely showing here in Fountain this year, and I'm really looking forward to a nice, lively battle. With any luck, I'll be able to get my post in soon, and maybe - just maybe, I'll be able to see some action. Tis' exciting... its been a long time since I've been at home writing for my EC character, and my choice this year puts me in my element. I'm having a ball just intro-ing the guy. One way or another... something tells me this year's Fountain is going to be a fountain to remember.

RATIONALPARANOIA -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/18/2008 23:04:28)

*Rational smiles. He smiles wide.* This is getting to be very interesting... Guts is getting angry, and he is taking up the challenges. He is deadly, by the way... Quite deadly, in fact. And he has quite a few tricks up his sleeve.

Edit: @GoN: Yeah, it seems as if Guts is talking right into your ear, unhampered by even your helmet.

darkgillshadow -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 0:25:55)

Eh heh....well, there it is.
Doubt anyone has any questions about it, but ifya do, I'm around and my post is up. 8U

DWeird -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 0:28:51)

Fountain has less posts than Spike? SACRILIGE! We must avenge the honor of the arena and regain lost ground!

Quality over quantity, of course, but a little competition in a big competition never hurt nobody. ^_^

I'd suggest (again!) everyone who isn't already to get on CHAT and /join #archipelago

It helps planning, for reals it does.

Anyhoo.

Dragon: You're wearing a plate of stone armor that's stronger than metal (for no specified reason), and are able to use it with great flexibility, and are disallowing a [earth] guy who, conceivably, would have more power over it than you, to, well, have any power over it?

While I like your character design and its implementation, most of the characters involved in this tourney are a wee bit less... epic than yours.

If it takes five days of chanting and twelve virgin sacrifices to land a proper hit on your guy... Well, you get the idea. <.<; You might enjoy playing him, but no one else will.

~

Also, Discipline: could you describe how that orb of warning of yours works? I'm thinking of maybe attacking your character, and that would matter. My charry doesn't know a thing, of course, it only matters OOCly, in how much wiggle space in writing I should leave you.

~

Finally, to everyone who's part of the Fountain Arena, it would help if you included detailed information about your clothing and items and the materials from which they are made.

With my character present, that is information that is relevant battle-wise. <.<;

Also. Work finally over, should have a post up today! ^-^

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 0:33:15)

DWeird, I get what you're saying, but I mean really, if an Earth elemental could control me, there would be no reason to wear stone armor :P. I'll allow some manipulation but not *poof* there goes your armor. The rest of his armor is basic metal, and his chest armor is often easier to penetrate than metal, seeing as sometimes it is practically liquid. I apologize if it appears a god mod. If its really contested, I can arrange him to just wear metal, no harm done.

jerenda -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 1:59:03)

dragon, I have got to say, I love your character. He is hereby my favorite. *roots for dragon* Wind being my element has absolutely nothing to do with this choice, of course. ^_^

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 2:01:11)

*10 points to Gryffindor!*

Thanks jerenda, but stay tuned, we're just getting started :)

DWeird -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 10:18:52)

Post made!

Sorry for the length... And sorry if this sucks, I'm currently in no condition to judge (no sleep for 24 hours, whee. ^-^). The rust is coming off rather nicely, at least. :D Anyway... If you want to skip the character description stuff (you'd have to read the char description on the application page to get a description that's workable for battle purposes, anyway), you can skip straight to the three-ish last paragraphs. Sad, ain't it?

So! Gill, in case the post was unclear - my guy sort of 'grabbed' you by your belt and gave you a push. It's not intended to grab and carry you, its intended to give all the momentum you've built up running up on that hill a sligthly different direction. :D It's the equivalent of a surprise push of a moderate-strength person who's not giving it all he's got. I'm fairly sure it will throw you off balance in some way, but whether you'll actually collapse in the way Snur planned... Dunno. :D

Also: .Discipline, since I still don't know how your orb works, here's some general info for you: Assuming your orb is like a smoke detector, I think it'd be off after dragon enters, and my little bit won't add much to it. If it's more nuanced and can do directions and/or elements, well - Snur's whole body is, of course, held together by Dark magic (not sure if that qualifies as a *danger*, though) - and the belt-tug was also a Darkness spell. The enchantment on the ring is Light.

For those of you who do not have specific magic items/abilities/spells intended for the purposes of finding stuff about magic, or have a CRAZY amount of woman's intuition :P, or have a sight better than an eagle's to see the ring's light and the judgment to make a connection between that and what happened on the hill - you saw nothin'. My character entered, and 's just standin' there, chillin'.

Also: Poke me if I forget to write all of the "I tug your stuff around" 'attacks' as conditional sentences. The way my magic's done can be a touchy subject, since it involves subverting and influencing your movement without any physical contact between our characters. <.<; I'll be carefully not to cross the line, but if you have any issue with any of my posts - PM me or drop me a line on chat.

Also, .Discipline: I sort of forgot last time, but here's a request - mind slowing down your posts a little? You went down the mountain, hid in the bushes, put some stuff in and out, and prayed, and then went back to active duty... A dozen of attacks could be done at any of these points (whack you with a spell when you're still in sight, which is what I initially wanted to do, or stab you when you're distracted by your praying...). Either write in shorter 'bursts' (Post1: I do this. P2: And then I do this. P3 And then that...) or write it in the form of an intention (Post: I do this, and after that, I intend to this, and afterwards - that).

Hope I'm not sounding too bossy or too preachy, or whatever... <.< Also: damn, this is a long post. o.O

And finally: Forward! We must catch up with Spike!

The Dragon Knight -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 11:13:03)

Catch up with Spike? Pffft. Come now, DW, even you should recognize the futility of such an attempt. :P

Still, you raise a good point in your last large paragraph here, about writing in shorter bursts. While those in the Spike arena have, so far at least, been keeping their actions to a reasonable number in a single post, I would still like to add my own emphasis to this advice. This is especially necessary when you are locked in an engagement with another character. If something you are currently doing, for example, is already directly affecting another character, and you decide to stop it and then start immediately start something else, please remember that your opponent has to be able to react.

Remember to leave openings for other characters. Also remember that, especially for larger, more powerful spells, occasionally a spell CAN fail completely, especially ones that require more time to pull off. Just keep it fair, and give others a chance to respond.

TormentedDragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 13:15:58)

RIGHT THEN. A few clarifications and one disclaimer. Based off observations of occurrences in your post, Nightly, and a desire to make a post before late on the 20th, I have made an assumption that the red coloring in your tornado is your blood. If it isn't (and keep in mind you have to give a valid explanation for what ELSE it could be), then I will edit accordingly. That being said...

Most of blood is plasma. Plasma is 90% water. Selah can obviously control water. Thus, she can take all the water out of any blood she comes in contact with, leaving behind everything that ISN'T water... i.e. dried flakes of blood. Thus, your blood is hers.

Secondly, that entire process takes all of, oh, two seconds.

Also, given the speeds of a good tornado, going three times around doesn't take very long. Her pulling herself out of the tornado's grasp and onto the wall ALSO doesn't take very long... and then given the speed she's already traveling at, everything else doesn't take very long either. I'm guessing around 3/4 of a minute for the whole chain of events.

And yes, she's gunning for you, Rational. At this point, she's got approximately 1 1/2 times her original mass. That Flask was a LOT of water.

The Extinguisher -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 13:19:31)

DW, Michael's clothing is nothing important, as he'll most likely be shedding it before the day is done. The only other item he will be carrying is his sword, which is made of his flesh. I know, pleasant.

Anyway, we must catch up with Spike!

.Discipline -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 16:50:32)

Deltora, Michael did not launch himself at Bolbi, IIRC, he launched himself at the ice dwarf in the arena. Bolbi is a gnome, not a dwarf. Could you please edit your post to be correct on this issue.

Bolbi is not under attack. He is hiding in the bushes on the western side of the arena, in the area where there is mud and shrubbery.

xaxtoo -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2008= Spike and Fountain OOCs (7/19/2008 17:12:15)

Hm, since Bolbi's hiding is accepted by all, I'm going to assume Karddicj has about a minute maybe a minute and a half of running about time when the gnome is descending and hiding.
I'm going to treat this as scotch free time as long as there's no objections ;p
