@Axel- Uh, no, you probably haven't done this since last year. Considering that it's only on once a year. Or, by 'since last year', do you mean you haven't RPed since last year?

Geddesmck -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 13:22:40)

Name: Zenz Nightwalker

Element: Earth

Abilities:
-Burrow: Zenz can bury himself and burrow through the earth at extreme speeds. The only limit to how long he can stay underground is how long he can hold his breath.
-Absorb energy: Zenz can absorb energy from plants in his immediate area. Most small plants will die when he uses this, but larger ones will survive. This does not heal Zenz, although it may help him resist pain.
-Dirt shield: Zenz is covered in dirt and sand. If he sees an attack coming and has enough time, he can quickly move this dirt and sand and solidify it so that it blocks the attack. This requires a lot of concentration and would be difficult in a fight or when he is tired.
Earth darts: Zenz forms dirt and sand into small, but very sharp rock darts which he sends flying towards opponents. He could in theory create larger darts, or make the dirt into other shapes.
Rooted: When Zenz is in direct contact with the earth, he is slightly stronger and can endure more damage than normal. He also expends less energy.

First Post

Weaponry:
Zenz has a long sword that is enchanted to be nigh unbreakable and he also has a regular short sword. Although not techniqually a weapon in the traditonal sense, Zenz also brings a large bag full of soil with him, knowing only too well how vulnerable he could be without it.

A bag of soil keeps him from losing out on parts of his ability set in Sky and Spike, nice forethought. Absorb energy probably won't be useful in the Dropoffs unless in Fountain. Finals...well, THAT could get interesting. I'm envisioning the guy as some mole-man hybrid from a B movie flick, though. XD Approved, otherwise, and my apologies for making you rush only to find out about the extension. ~Ronin

Wow! Didn't even realise it was time for the EC. Nearly missed this.

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 13:41:14)

Going through applications now. Since I HAVE been rather busy this weekend, I'll be extending the application deadline until the 14th at 10PM EST. This still gives me some downtime till having the arena selections in-full and posted publicly rather than on private record. This ALSO gives anyone finding themselves in Conditional Approval status time to revise and resubmit to get in.

...and hey, if this means we can get at least a few more participants? I'm game for that.

That one. The last time I RP'd was last years EC.

Elnaith -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 14:20:02)

Last year? I think I'm over two and a half years gone now >.>;

Geddesmck -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 14:36:09)

I panic and post a bio, only to find that the deadline is extended? -.-

Oh well, I intended to use that character anyway and after skimming through the thread, it seems i havn't unbalanced or overpopulated an element.

Kell, would Eli be a character you used before? I seem to recall the character, although I think he might have been called Jonas.

The Dragon Knight -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 15:10:32)

So the Elemental Championships have come again. Is it already that time of year? Time flies so when you're cleaning up flooded kitchens and bathrooms. ~sigh~

Well, I am undecided as to whether I shall participate at this time. Nice to know that I have a couple more days to reach a decision since I do not have an elemental character ready to go, with the exception of Torrelle. However, considering that his abilities are somewhat vague in exactly what he can do with them, and seeing as how that very thing resulted in some controversy last year, I do not intend to enter him. IF I decide to participate it will be with a whole new character.

Also, TD, shame on you for not reminding me that the EC was beginning. :-P

That being said, in the event that I don't enter I shall be rooting for some of you. Most notably TD, Kell and Krey. Fight hard, fight wisely and, most importantly, fight dirty!

2009light -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 15:36:35)

Question:

I know, Ronin, you are still working on approving bios, but is there a reason why mine was skipped on the top of the third page? All the other bios on that page have been looked at, and although mine was the second one on that page, it hasn't been declined/approved/conditionally approved yet....

That's me using a touchpad on a laptop, and that sidebar scroll is not always the smoothest acting. Nor am I the most attentive when scrolling to the next in line. Oversight, not intentional, so give me a moment and it will be done. ~Ronin

Voltar -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 16:32:25)

Grrr...

Name: Zypher
Element of participation: Energy
Spells/Abilities:
-Arc Lightning: A bolt of lightning that can hit from one to three opponets if they are within four feet of each other, dealing less and less damage with each opponent. Channeled through Zypher's fingertips.
-Reflect Energy: When someone attacks Zypher with lightning, he can reflect about a fourth of the damage using his sword, Illūv. He can only use this ability if Illūv is at full power (see below).
-Lightning: Just a bolt of lightning dealing moderate damage. Nothing special. Channeled through Zypher's palms.
-Godsblood Gift: Zypher's senses become enhanced to the point of near-superhumanity. Can only be used when Illūv is at full power, and lessens in power as Illūv recharges, going away completely when Illūv again reaches its zenith.

http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=16328276&mpage=1&key=8#16335401

Vital Statistics:

-Weight: 156 lb.
-Height: 5 ft.11 in.
-Eye color: Sapphire blue
-Hair color: Brown
-Age: 21
-Sex: M

Appearance:

-Zypher wears a cowl that covers his uneven brown hair and smooth face. He wears a black leather tunic, black leather pants, and black cloth bandages on his arms and feet. His skin is a deathly white.

Weapons:

-Illūv (ill-yoov): A shortsword, handcrafted by dwarves. Its hilt bears a sapphire in its center. The blade is short, made of pure silver, and runed. These gray runes turn to orange ever so slowly, and when they are finished changing color (Which takes about ten minutes), the sapphire emits a very small burst of blue light, signifying that the sword is at full power. The sword then stops charging until its power is used, then starts back again. Zypher is very skilled with Illūv.

As long as I understand your shortsword's power properly, i.e. as an activator for Reflect Energy and Godsblood Gift...and I belive that is right...this is acceptable. PM me otherwise. Approved. ~Ronin

Frozt -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 17:28:27)

Can't wait to bring "mad skills" to the arena...

On a side note, i am (with someone else) currently making up a rather interesting backstory for my character and anothers (the same person mentioned before)...
Don't want to clarify anything, but be prepared for a "treat"... *grin*

Voltar -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 17:32:04)

Treat?

What kind of treat?

*perks up* Dog biscuit? :o

Frozt -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 18:20:48)

No, not that kind of treat...

I'm bringing tea and biscuits, along with a few other things...
Including poison... :D
Anything tastes better with poison... :D

Voltar -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 18:29:32)

WHAT!!!???

NO DOG BISCUITS!?

CURSE YOU, AQUASCUM...!!!

Wait!

Did you say...poison?

*cackles evilly*

To be continued...

Coyote -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 19:02:29)

Hah. Poor Rychaeth. Not only does he have no fantastic magical abilities to speak of, he's competing against a metric ton of opponents that /do/. Best I can do is show off before he dies. XP

And Axel, Elly, if it makes you feel any better, I don't remember the last time I RP'd. =D

Rayzer -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 19:23:07)

I guess as my first action as an RPer on this forum....shall be the Arena perhaps?
Sounds good to me!

Name: Misty Drew
Element of Participation: Water
Class, if applicable: Half-Eagle Mage

Any abilities that require elaboration:

Flight: Simple enough? Well, to be more specific, Misty can fly for periods of time that are dependent on her surroundings and current condition. Once injured or her wings are tired, she unable to fly, but is left with more of a short glide. (Note: Only Injuries that affect her wings or general back area would prevent flight however. If the injury proves to be more severe however, she cannot glide either.)

Propelling Blast: Misty uses her hands to conjure a powerful blast of mist that propels her forward at dizzying speeds, anyone in the blast radius (behind Misty) is blasted back wards. The blast fails however if used constantly for more than a couple minutes.

Oxygen Absorption: Misty takes away the oxygen from around her enemy for a short period of time, by trapping their heads in a bubble of water, leaving the enemy striving for air, however, this attack cannot kill, but is used more as a stun or weakening.

Hurricane Spin: Misty spins at speeds higher than imaginable, with her Morning-star-like, Faeron, in tow. the attack leaves a severe wound, but Misty is faced with some serious fatigue afterwards.

Cloud Cover: Misty calls upon her water abilities to create a fog of sorts around her and her current allies. While it might be difficult for the enemy to see, everyone is affected in one way another, whether sight is lost or senses are dampened.

Liquefy: Misty turns herself into water instantly, unable to be hurt for a short period of time. She is able to move freely across any surface, making her nonabsorbent. After a short time however, her abilities force her to shift back into her human-eagle form.

Misty Glare: Used as her most powerful attack, Misty fires a mist that stops in mid-air. Once they are in mid air, Faeron glows very brightly, and the brightness is severely magnified to a point of blindness dealing serious damage to her opponents, almost rendering them useless. Only downfall to the attack is that Misty uses most of her energy, and in a battle, it might be hard to find that energy to use.

(Link Place holder)

Vital Statistics:
-Weight: 120 lbs.
-Height: 5 ft.11 in.
-Eye color: Ice Blue
-Hair color: White
-Age: 23
-Sex: F

Weaponry:
Faeron (Fair-en): A Morning-star-like weapon. With large spikes attached, it can serious mess the enemy up. It is also blessed with a water spirit that bonded with Misty at a young age, it is her adviser, and she talks to it often. The damage it deals is severe, but it is quite a bit heavier than normal weapons.

Appearance: She is half eagle, and her most noticeable feature is her white wings. She wears Dark Black armor with a white trim. She has ice blue eyes that show no emotion.

Background:
Misty is a devoted Water-Mage who studied under her parents, for spiritual growth. In one of her assignments, she befriended a spirit, named Faeron, who became her life-long friend. Faeron then embodied a MorningStar, to prevent others from noticing the wind spirit's presence. Faeron is Misty's protector, and would stop at nothing to kill her enemies.

Mastering her element, she was the pride and joy of her town. Of course, Faeron helped a bit, but none-the-less, she was meant for battle. Her lust for power might just be her downfall, but she is always reprimanded by Faeron to keep her cool. Two minds are better than one, they say. It was then that she was called to be part of the Championships.

After being called upon from her parents to attempt a challenge in the Elemental Championships, she quickly accepted, thinking she could squash the competition. But, as fate would have it, winning might not be so easy.

Just glad I didn't miss the deadline, XD.
~Ray

Hrm...Oxygen Absorption probably will be dodge-able/counter-able to some degree. I.e. don't expect it to be a perfect effect. Similarly, Liquefy would mean Misty likely would follow the rules of water, so forced evaporation would be a form of harming her, for instance. If that is the case, let me know, and she'll get full clearance. If you have something other in mind for mechanics on Liquefy being something other than a Perfect Invulnerability ability, let me know. Conditionally approved until then. ~Ronin

qbsuperstar03 -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 19:57:41)

Coyote, I fell into the same trap last year. I thought I could get by with just a simple ranged spell that slowed down foes that decided to run away instead of face me in melee, and the only reason I made it to the Finals was because the rightful champ never showed up. Then after Cheeseliker was culled, there were two idle kills before I was finally eliminated.

It's okay: Assuming your character survives this year's "festivities," your char can come to the realization that skill at arms only goes so far, and to that end decides to devote himself to furthering his magical art to become a more well-rounded combatant.

2009light -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 20:30:36)

Edited with changes made in bold....

Name: Chad Sleas
Element of Participation: Energy
Class, if applicable: fighter/mage of the clan Eletic
Any abilities that require elaboration:

Lightning charge: He can use energy to fuel up his movements to make his reaction timing, (and physical speed) faster. However, he only uses it for short bursts of movement, such as a quick dodge of an incoming attack or to speed up his own offensive attack. However, he can't use it again immediately afterward, for some time needs to pass. (For example, if he used it to close in onto his opponent, but didn't foresee an immediate counter attack, he can't reuse this again that quick.)

Lightning flow: He can 'power-up' his arms and legs with a visible electrical current. Chad can also use a swift movement (such as swinging his arm) along with the release of the energy from his limb to send the current into another object or organism. However, doing so will temporary paralyze the limb that was used for at least 10 seconds, if not more depending on how long his arms and legs were charged up.

Here is link to first post

Vital Statistics: Height: 6'0"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Human male

Weaponry: He carries in two large pouches on both hips two chains, (each a yard long) made of combined metals of which would be durable and a excellent conductor of electricity. He can use those chains as defense when charged up by spinning the chain to create a circle, or as offense by swinging it in the direction of his opponent, (however, because of the electricity flowing through it, Chad can only direct the chain to a general area, and from there the energy moves the chain randomly so that neither him nor his opponent know exactly where it will hit). In both of his boots he carries a set each of two round metal balls of which he uses to throw at his opponents when charged up and keeps its electrical current in for at least 3 minutes after thrown.

Background: Chad grew up in a clan of fighters, (The Eletic), who worship the Energy Lord as the "spark that gave us life". Chad at first saw his training as a way to not only honor his clan, but to help defend it. By entering into the Elemental Championships, he hopes to prove his clan's worth, dedication, and honor to his lord.

I appreciate the clarifications and edit to work better with the system. Approved.~Ronin

Gedd, that was an older version of Elian actually, you got to witness the Stand firsthand.

Also, as a note to everyone. General OOC chatter concerning characters and the EC is okay here, please refrain from filling this thread up with useless spam. I'm looking at you Voltar and Frozt.

Coyote -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 22:55:56)

qbsuperstar03: Trap? Pff. I wouldn't call it a liability. Well, sure, he's at a clear disadvantage combat-wise, but to the RPer (well, at least to me), it's much more interesting fighting without the amazing spells and all that. You have to actually think about it. Instead of blasting a Fireball of +2 Explosion at an enemy, you have to think and find a more resourceful way of attacking him. Instead of shielding yourself off with a force field, you have to find other ways of blocking attacks. My post was meant to poke fun at everyone else's characters just as much as mine. Besides, IIRC, Ronin got into the finals once with a dead character.

It doesn't matter to me if he lives or dies. When it comes to characters, I gave up with the "continuous storyline" form of RPing and adopted a sort of a "cloned characters" form of RPing. If he dies, well, what's stopping me from using him elsewhere? =P
And if he lives, meh, good for him. Should I, for some deranged reason, keep the same Rychaeth who lived through two Elemental Championships, he wouldn't learn magic anyways. Though, that's more of a character thing than anything else. (Besides, if Ry became an adept magic-user as well as an expert swordsman, his encounters with bounty hunters, peacekeepers, and the like wouldn't be nearly as fun to write about. =P)

TormentedDragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/12/2009 23:49:56)

...What stops you from using HIM, exactly, elsewhere, is that EC is very much canon and without RPing a resurrection of that particular character you're not allowed to use him. His brother, though, certainly.

Also, Ronin's not the only one. I've gotten into finals twice with a dead character. And I won the finals with the second one. Woof.

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/13/2009 1:02:10)

Name: Logain Dedracio (Hollow, Of the dragons)

Element of Participation: Wind

Class: Mechanically Enhanced Wind Wizard

Abilities:
(Note: While muscular, Logain's power is in magic and the maneuverability of his weapons, not in brute strength)

==High/Long Jump: Can jump 25 feet into the air, or, with proper speed, 20 feet across the ground.

==Quick Movement: Can move at exceptional rates of speed, at 30 mph, sustainable for the extent of his energy, and at "gusts" of 55 mph.

==Extreme Maneuverability: Both of his weapons contain wind element within them, allowing for elementally influenced movement and control of the weapons by Logain. This means intense maneuverability of lightweight weapons. See further description below

==Wind Magic: Very powerful wind magic, this is Logain's preferred weapon. He has mastered wind magic, and has influence over pressure, and therefore weather to a medium extent. He manipulates the wind around him, creating sharp blasts, gusts, and other blows of pure energy. He is also fairly clever, and is keen on using his weapons for ranged combat, slashing the air and transporting that force through the particles into his opponent. His staff has been imbued with a large amount of wind magic, some even say it was touched by the lord himself.

==Power Detection: Logain can detect attacks, power levels, and element affinities by reading vibrations in the air around him

Age: 24 physically, 114 psychologically

Height: 6'9

Weight: 254

Frame: Toned body, all of his weight can be attributed to muscle and enhancing features, and so he appears built but thin
(For description of enhancements, see underlined portion of background)

Weaponry:

==Pentedge: Attached to his right arm is a large claw, which is especially noticeable in battle situations, in which Logain extends his 16 inch curved blades, one from each finger. The blades are retractable on command, and are made out of an element superior to most natural elements found in Lore, for they are constructed out of particles of the wind element itself, bonded with element-x, creating a crystalline matrix unlike any typical bonding patterns found in nature. This complex architectural component means that when the blades meet another, the force of the opposing blade is distributed in equal degrees across Logain's blade, making them ideal combat weapons for they cannot shatter

==The Seraphim: Logain also carries a 6'5 staff, called The Seraphim, a technological marvel of drakel magiscience. First and foremost, it has the ability to extend to twice its length, or 13 feet, or to half its length, or 3.25 feet, when Logain so desires. The final two feet of the 13 foot staff reform into a spearhead when extended to full size. The technological achievement of the drakel in this staff lies in the composition of its body, an ultra-lightweight and extremely hard interstitial alloy. This alloy is composed of Osmium metal and the interstices are filled with an artificial substance developed to remain intact under pressure and force when bonded in a complex web-formation, allowing space to exist where there would be none otherwise. This space is sealed with wind element inside of it, locked shut with drakel magic, allowing Logain's special connection to these particular particles the ability to control the staff in complete combative function from five feet away, and use the staff as a guided spear with fairly impressive accuracy at great distances. On the staff itself are carvings from Logain's claw, all that is left of his memory of Earth.

Secondary Physical Description: His skin is perfect but completely snow white, marred only on the edge of his face, where black marks radiate outwards until a ring of stretches that goes from the top of his head to the edge of his throat and back, which marks the meeting between the perfect skin and what appears to be a burned portion. It is impossible to tell though, for he wears a shockingly modern but brutally tribal silver metal mask, with one half of the mask depicting the happy face of drama, and the other half depicting the sad face. The mask is attached by golden clasps behind his head. He wears a white button up shirt, white pants, a black tux vest, and a white pinstripe overcoat with a high collar and a white lapel. His boots are a shimmering white, and he wears a formal white glove on his left hand.

Background: Logain Dedracio was born on Earth and was in the wrong place at the wrong time when a world-portal opened up from Lore and sucked him in. On his journey, his memory was wiped, his body was terribly burned, and the right side of his body was crushed. A drakel scouting party discovered him close to death at the edge of their woods, and took him back to base. Reconstructive procedures allowed his dead, burned skin to be replaced with a fireproof, artificial material, save for his face. Just before passing out before the procedures, he whispered, "Leave me something to remember." They left his face burned, and moved on to the right side of his body. They replaced his right arm and leg, leaving only the nerves intact so he would retain full control after the procedures, and implanted metal plates all along his right chest and core. Flowing throughout the entire structure, holding it together, they placed metal tubing, strong and hollow to allow for the passage of blood and wind, making it light and maneuverable. The tubing was done in the drakel fashion of perfection, with no after effects, although Logain has not yet gotten used to tubes flowing in and out of his body. Upon waking, Logain was confused and angry, and tore apart his hospital room before he was subdued by guards. A wise drakel engineer and mage came to his aid, and the two became fast friends. Stealing materials from drakel prototype vaults, the engineer designed, built, and attached the Pentedge and created the Seraphim for Logain, but was soon captured and killed. Fleeing persecution, Logain left the base and has wandered the lands for 90 years now, though since the portal event he cannot age. He has trained his warrior ability to be superb and has mastered the art of moving his large frame like an assassin, given the power to jump exceptionally high, though he cannot support his weight to fly, and to move quickly, using elemental powers of wind inside the tubing composing his mechanical enhancements.
His wind powers were discovered approximately 4 years into his adventures, when he wandered deep inside a cave that turned out to be a shrine to the elemental lord of wind. Recognizing his unique origins, the wind god claimed Logain as his own and told him, "If you quest for me for the next 10 years of your life, I shall reward you with great powers." No sooner did Logain return from his last mission, did the wind lord endow him with fantastical powers of wind magic. He did not dare give while not taking away, and he took from Logain some of his strength and size to allow for faster movement, less brute strength and greater speed and tactic.

Hooookay...for some reason, Power Detection makes me think of DBZ's scouters, and all the puns associated with them. Not helped by your Seraphim's doubling ability in length, which screams Power Pole. I was amused for a good bit after.

That aside, if you can sufficiently explain how air vibrations can somehow determine 'power levels' outside of active casting or high-grade enchantment detection (which I'll chalk up to auric effect of magic), I'll allow that aspect of that ability. Further, as long as you consent to needing at least some concentration to know of otherwise unexpected attacks, the rest will fly for that ability.

For a self-professed mage focus character, he still retains an eyebrow raising amount of physical abilities and aids via his weaponry. This is just a comment, not an outright criticism, but it may affect how you get graded in play. Conditionally Approved. ~Ronin

Kell, I remember now and I actually took the time to look up the posts. Although I realise that Eli will be vastly different in this setting, it was interesting to remind myself of the character and, in particular, the effects of his last stand.

Ronin, I am glad my bio was suitable and I'm also glad I got it posted in time, as it was my own fault I didn't apply sooner. Now that you mention it, I'm starting to wonder if I could have given my character a pick axe insteed of a sword :).

TDK, glad that you decided to check this thread out at least, although I understand why you may not enter, I do hope that you do.

I worry about the quality of my writing now, since I have not RPed in a short while. That said, I intend to try my hardest to reach the fianls at least.
