Coyote -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 1:38:15)

I don't really mind that I can't use a dead character in a future EC. Like you said, the ECs are all sequels, more or less, of each other. I do, however, dislike what you bring up in your third and fourth paragraphs; that last paragraph is the biggest reason I stopped RPing on these forums. Calling me selfish or implying that I am a 'false wordsmith' isn't going to sway my opinion in your favor -- quite the opposite, actually.

Not to say that you aren't bringing up valid points. There is a reason I chose to withdraw instead of continuing the argue about it. My initial spat with TD was more out of surprise about this rule that seemingly popped out of nowhere than about the rule itself, much as I disagree with it. That being said, I talked with Ronin, and if he wants to run these boards that way, well, that's why I'm not participating in the Elemental Championships anymore.

I won't be posting anymore in here; as "compelled" as I am to "comment on" posts that accuse me of bigotry and selfishness, it's not quite on-topic for this thread. Ciao, everybody, and may the best man (or woman) win.

TormentedDragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 2:01:20)

Shush.

Both of ye.

Versi dun like the rule, that's his biz. True, he could ha' been a bit less... "dat rule is STOOPID!" in his fust posts regardin' it. But still his biz. TDK think it fine (like me), but none o' 'dis "true wordsmith" carp. True wordsmith be a guy what kin take a tale and make it shine. He ain't always gon' be a paragon o' virtue tae boot.

On the other hoof... none o' 'dis accusimifying of other people accusimifyin', or bringin' up why you lef' these boards, or any o' dat carp. You gon' leave 'dese boards, thas your biz. Dun need to shout it tae the world or tek up the banner of the noble martyr, OR the banner of the jaded wotcher what's seeing it all go to pot. 'Coz das jus' silly, and it tek up all your time, and 'den you ain't DO nothin' 'bout what you think is the problem.

Have a spat in PM, or summat, if ye need to, but I ain't wan' see 'dis thing turn into a bashfest or whinefest.

Shush.

Guardian of Nekops -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 2:19:00)

I hereby submit my candidacy for these Elemental Championships. My credentials are as follows.

Name: Tel’rion

Race: Drakel

Element of Participation: Water

Class, if applicable: Salt Mage

Any abilities that require elaboration:Tel’rion is able to control salt, whether in granular, crystalized, or dissolved form, using a form of telekinesis that works only to that purpose. He cannot affect the salts claimed by the body, as the pull of a living system far outranks his own claim on the material, but salts in something rejected by the body (notably sweat) are fair game.
Liquids with dissolved salt can be manipulated along with their salt content, but not in such a way as to pierce flesh or grip an opponent; though this may be possible, Tel’rion lacks the required power of concentration. In a similar way, he is unable to mold solid salt forms like clay; they continue to retain their shape and function even when he is controlling them. He is able to break crystallized salt into pieces, but only in the same way that one might snap a stick with his bare hands.

Tel’rion may also split salt water into its component acids and bases, and by retaining a quantity of salt in each may control these substances as well. The strength of these compounds depend on the purity of the salt water solution and the salt used… separated sweat will be far less effective than lemon juice, while a mixture of pure water and a more potent salt will split into some more nasty compounds.
In a similar vein, he can speed, slow, and even reverse the process of salt being dissolved into a liquid. He may even force more salt than would normally dissolve into a solution, as would be possible with heat, or limit the amount of salt that can be dissolved in a liquid similar to how cooling it down would affect the process. There is, however, no change in the actual temperature of the liquid, for Tel’rion has no power over liquids. Only salt and its byproducts.

< Link to my first post is here. Thus it is written, thus it shall be.>

Weaponry: Tel’rion bears a hollow staff made of a poisonous, crystallized salt that he ironically calls Dragonsalt. It is, oddly enough, not harmful to creatures of a draconic origin, and is a reasonably strong toxin in most other creatures, including non-draconic humanoids. The staff is topped with a metal dragon’s head, into which is built a Drakel dehumidifier that uses the hollow portion of the staff as a reservoir for the water it gathers out of the air. At the start of the competition this hollow is completely filled with water that is saturated with Dragonsalt, about a gallon’s worth of material.
He also wears an athame of crystallized Dragonsalt on his belt, together with six clear potion bottles. The three on his left side are acids; the three on his right are bases. Both are derived from a compound of Dragonsalt and water, but unlike the salt affect all creatures equally.

Neither weapon has any magical properties save a strengthening enchantment which increases their resilience to about halfway between that of wooden and metal items of the same type. Being made of Dragonsalt, they are themselves slightly poisonous and may be controlled by the Salt Mage.

Secondary physical description for reference's sake: For the human who thinks all Drakel look alike, Tel’rion would be no exception. He is of medium height and weight, his scaly complexion is of the standard green color, he is neither particularly young nor particularly old, and he has no defining injuries or odd physical traits. Presumably another Drakel would be able to pick him out of a crowd, though there is little reason even one of them would do so. The one thing that might set him apart is the look in his eyes; they are bright, extremely bright and alive. They shine with an intelligence and an intensity that borders on madness, and would make any sane creature just a bit uncomfortable.

Tel’rion wears blindingly white robes trimmed in a deep navy blue. Around his waist, a blue leather belt holds a dull crystal dagger and six bottles of a clear liquid, each neatly tied in its own place. In his hand is a large crystal staff of the same dull crystal, topped with an ornate, rusty dragon’s head, metal maw open wide.

On his back, Tel’rion wears a small cloth pack, its deep blue coloring contrasting sharply with the white robes beneath it. It looks about the right size for one rather large tome and appears to be full to capacity, as if it was made specifically for the book which is currently inside it.

Considering you've come in second twice, I doubt I have to go through my usual rigamorale of warnings regarding potential aspects of your chosen powers. I know how you work too well to bother, really. Approved, and may he be as interesting a contestant as he is on paper in the bio. ~Ronin

kenzoku -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 2:55:47)

I should probably see you as competition, but the look of insanity is quite endearing, GoN!

Mr.Pumpkin -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 7:10:19)

Erm... I notice I'm still Conditionally Approved, five pages after I sent my PM...

Is your inbox full, Ronin?

It kinda defeats the purpose of Rule #9 when I have certain low-grade clarifications as PM-verify rather than Rule 9. No, you are approved, I just keep forgetting to go back and re-edit the official comment. Not the FIRST one either, but when I'm here, I get rather busy with the background work. My apologies. ~Ronin

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 13:02:47)

First two of the three arenas, barring a significant number of approvable late-entrants nearer the deadline, are up. Applications have been processed to this point, and I have asked Xaxtoo to update his helpful link-thread as well, as I won't be updating the first post until the deadline has passed.

Arena designations MAY be up before midnight, tonight. Keyword: May. Kickoff will begin as close to noon tomorrow, the 15th, as humanly possible. I'd like a night's sleep without worrying about having to look things over as soon as possible when waking. =P

ringulreith -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 16:19:10)

I see the arenas have been posted! Ah, only a little more time till the time when blood shall be spilt, flesh rent, and bones crushed! Oh, and Ronin, in the spike arena, you spelled laid wrong.

Edit: Ronin should be happy! We have 36 contestants as of now, and that means 9 for each of the four arenas--more than enough, if I remember last year's arena numbers!

Rayzer -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 16:25:59)

Slip and slide could give me a clear advantage in both of these arenas, of course, anything can happen, no?

Let's just hope I don't mess this up on my first try over here on this RP Forum...that would just be embarrassing.

The Extinguisher -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 17:56:30)

Man, I hope fountain gets used again. I love the fountain arena so much.

ringulreith -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 18:16:37)

FMA, I think all of the arenas will be used this year.

TormentedDragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 18:41:49)

Some number crunching: Cellar, in previous years, has had a limit of 8 participants.

Out of 36, this leave 28 to be divided amongst the rest. If the overflow arena is not used, that would leave each of the other arenas with 14 participants.

If you use all four, there's 8 in cellar, 8 in sky, 10 in spike, 10 in fountain.

Conclusion?

All four arenas will be used. Thank you and good night.

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 22:01:29)

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED!

Edit #1, a clarification: Sky has had a small, but important alteration since last year. Rather than spinning uniformly, the stones spin faster the closer you get to the central gap. For reference, the keystones which the magi deposit competitors upon do NOT move. Think of a whirlpool for that nice mental image of rotation speed if it helps.

Edit #2: The brand new Fountain is up. I put the old one up at first merely as a tease...but I don't think many noticed. For shame, it was the only joke I'm even allowed during this, and no one took the bait. ;_;

*Kell consoles the Ferret with shinies.* Stop that, or I'll never get done, Kell. D:<

Edit #3: The original post has been updated with a final list of Approved characters in preparation for Arena Selections. IF you were Conditionally Approved and a PM clarification was requested rather than a Rule 9 revision, and I somehow missed updating you properly to this list, LET ME KNOW. It is possible that one of you is still lurking out there, and I admit upfront to being at fault if such a case exists.

ringulreith -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/14/2009 22:44:04)

Yay, all arenas are up! Can't wate for the bloodshed tomorrow!

Well, gotta turn in for the night. I'll see yall in the arena propper tomorrow! G'night!

The Extinguisher -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 0:32:25)

You ruined my streak ;_;
I've been in fountain every year.

Haha. Oh well. I guess I need to learn a new arena now.

kenzoku -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 0:41:57)

Sorry, FMA. This will be my third year (not consecutive) in fountain, bringing us both to 3/4. Anyway, lovely! Seashifter goes in the water! Which is fine by me; Cellar and Spike are terrifying.

dragon -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 0:48:16)

Ronin, just for clarification, what are the approximate dimensions of the walls and floor of Spike?

Thanks!

demonhunter -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 1:31:00)

Yay, not in cellar this year!

Sky, huh? Wishing I hadn't put the whole 'needs lots of concentration' limit on Lisa's teleportation now... Ah well. I'll manage. Somehow.

DWeird -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 4:40:03)

This thread has the official DW sign of approval.

Now go and cut somebody open, you repressed sociopaths you.

*Kell snuggles DW.* Yes, sir!

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 10:26:34)

Dragon, a BRIEF recap of the dimensions follows: 35ft radius from geometric center (i.e. center of the central pillar) to the edge of the spikes. I have the spike dimensions proper somewhere if that matters, but I'm working on the fly at the moment to get you a response sooner. Central pillar is about 5ft in diameter, with the four weaponized spikes hanging equidistantly at the cardinal directions on said pillar. The floor is flat, relatively, but has plentiful grooves carved into it as noted in its primary description.

Dropoffs Arena OOCs will be posted shortly.

.Discipline -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 10:38:38)

Cellar... hmmmm... That nulifies the acolyte side of my character, so I shall have to rely completely on my illusionist skills. And with all those mirrors, I think that Silvannen is going to have quite a bit of fun. Hehe.
Fear is a powerful weapon, even a militant light monk knows that, and with the ability to manipulate sources of light, and create it in a fashion that would be amplified by the arena, let's just say, cover your eyes.

Note: I will be gone from the 16th to the 20th. In the week after that, I may not have much contact with the computer. I will try my best to post, but I can't make any promise. I'm really sorry if this impedes the competition in any way.

Frozt -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 10:54:21)

Hmm... The mirrors in cellar allows for some nice "tricks" with Fartsith's Dark Shot...
Hehe...

Biophysicist -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 11:52:56)

Spike, hm? Was afraid of getting that arena, there's no places for my summoner to hide...

Ronin Of Dreams -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 12:01:58)

Posting may now commence! The Elemental Championships have BEGUN!

ringulreith -> RE: =Elemental Championships 2009= OOC Thread (7/15/2009 15:56:27)

Rejoice my brethren, rejoice! Rejoice and may thy blood be spilt upon the crimson ground, and thy bones ground and used to salt the oceans! Rejoice, for the elemental championships hath begun once anew! REJOICE!
