Wandering Guardian -> Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 5:44:06)

An article that recently came to my attention in the UK may be of interest to those gamers who like to go for the daily achievement award, or any duellists that spend at least 8 hours a day playing this game.

The article can be found here. A brief summary of the article can be found below:

A young man of 20 in the United Kingdom recently died of a Deep Vein Thrombosis, this is a blood clot that can be triggered by sitting in the same position for long periods of time. This particular young man liked to play Halo on his Xbox, however i believe that the particular requirements for the clot, 'sitting in the same position for long periods of time', can be applied to someone who spends a long amount of time on Epicduel, either in general play or when trying to get the Daily Achievement awards.

I've brought this to the community's attention as i believe it is necessary for people to know the possible dangers of playing computer games of any type for long periods of time. It is a serious matter, and i think that everyone should be aware of it and try to avoid, if they can, playing for long periods of time.

Just trying to look out for you guys.

that's why I play Wii while on ED ( during the turn of my sister ) :P

Wandering Guardian -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 5:57:01)

Thats a good idea andy, keeps you active while you play.

The simplest solution obviously would be playtime of an hour or two and then a 30 minute break where you go and kick a ball around or go for a walk etc.

That's why I've never gone for a daily champion, i know that it's not good for you. Playing too much Epicduel is bad for your eyesight as well. I've noticed that my eyesight has got worse and worse after playing a lot of ED. Everyone should take a break after each hour or two of playing, even if it just means getting out of your seat and going for a walk or having a meal.

TEEHEE
good thing i do sit ups while on my chair (i can literally do that)
altho i do get bored alot after going past 5 hours.
thats why i haven't been on the boards lately, plus im a bit busy.

Baron Dante -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 6:11:44)

Of course it isn't good for your health. But, keep in mind that in this single case of death, this person most likely had a condition that amount of playing contributed to. Playing itself wasn't what caused the death, it contributed to it.

King FrostLich -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 7:31:27)

Yes, getting the rising star was so tough, it gave me sore eyes because I had to stay up 16 hours.

xxmirxx -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 8:17:48)

The first time I stay up past 24 hours. I wasn't feeling like I can I would make it. My heart was beating faster and I would go through shakes for no reason at all. I was seeing things that wasn't there. They need to change 8 hours for kids here.

skeletondude -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 8:21:40)

i remember when i went for rising star and juggernaut tht i stayed up for almost 22hrs+ and that i had kept drinking coffee which i knw was not gud to drink too much coffee=too much caffeine=me goin hyper crazy

MrBones -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 8:39:35)

I agree, it is very bad for your health. To be more precise, it is extremely bad for your butt, especially if you are playing on a leather chair.

Butt crack sweating is the number one cause for seats discomfort in america. Everyday, 7 out of 10 americans have to go trough their day being affected by it on different levels.

Please donate.

One Winged Angel1357 -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 9:58:00)

yeah i stopped going for daily after i came in third for daily 2v2 back on EDF and i said something on EDF that made Fay tell me to stop playing ED and go be active or lay down. I think it was something about blacking out but i dont remember

Drakadh -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:04:37)

They should turn it to atleast 1-2 hours Achievements Dx

Chosen 0ne -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:06:06)

i hate but sweats. lol

Drakadh -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:15:18)

LOL! I get that when I am at school =,=" There is REALLY NOTHING to do when you are fighting 24 Hours xDDDDDDDD

ND Mallet -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:18:08)

If you think spending 24 hours on a game is bad for your health then what do you consider a game where you have to spend a week fighting enemies(either player or not) to get access to a shop you only have a short period of time to access?

goldslayer1 -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:25:24)

@mallet
LQS lol

ND Mallet -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:29:39)

@Gold LTS shop full of the game's best free gear(which is pointless since you practically need some of the best payed for gear to win) actually. After a week or two you lose access to the shop and have to spend another week getting on top of the weekly leaderboards to unlock it again.

goldslayer1 -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:30:28)

@mallet
lmao what game is this?
it sounds real competitive

Epic Pwnser -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 12:37:38)

Bad for your health if you sit there for 24 hours and don't eat, drink, go to the bathroom, with your face stuck to your computer screen.

Take breaks every so hour. Get up and walk around your neighborhood.

^The main reason of "butt crack sweating" is because 30% of Americans are obese. And because they stay at their home and play video/computer games for many hours straight.

My experience of the fame daily cheevo run was 36 hours straight without sleep. When it was morning time, I was hyper and confused. Paranoid and really really adrenaline-nized. I don't drink coffee or any of those energy crud. It's only bad for your health if you do it over a long period of time, like that X-Box bugger.

Sparticus -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 14:03:36)

I would argue that playing ED for a single 5 minute period could nearly kill you. Take for example the event that occurred at 8pm est the other day when thousands of players flooded the game in a mad rush to obtain a few LQS Tesla armors. I'm surprised more player's heads didn't explode as they logged in to find the shop again SOLD OUT! Take an aspirin and play on.

Drakadh -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 14:05:31)

@ Sparticus

BHWAHAHAAHA! xD

rej -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 14:05:47)

i didn't know it was possible to die of blood clotting, but i do know for a fact that spending long hours on the computer (especialy +20) greatly harms your vision.

Question: i wonder what would happen if someone asked comicalbiker to take an eye exam... [:-]

goldslayer1 -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 14:06:45)

@spart
lol IKR.
there was this kid whos world of warcraft account was cancelled by his parents and the kid went nuts and started destroying everything in the house.

altho i would be more concern what games drive u to do then what games do to u.

Master Volcon -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 14:41:24)

Back in England, I never really played online for long periods of time. After moving to the US, I noticed the culture was more accepting of playing games for long periods of time. I got my daily 2v2 and Jugg, however I did not like how I felt after. Tired, Weak, Spaced Out... and if you stayed up and lost that is even worse. I try not to play ED for too long without taking breaks.

Staying up and doing the daily champions can also mess with your sleeping schedule which in turn can mess with your body D:

xxmirxx -> RE: Daily Achievement Awards: Bad for your health? (7/31/2011 15:14:57)

It ttook me 2 weeks to get back to my sleeping times. But since I condition my body to stay up 24 hours without coffee. I don't have problems with sleeping.
