Titan Core

I'd like to offer up a few quick clarifications on how cores will work as we move into Omega. I know there have been a good number of questions about how existing abilities will transition as we go forward and I'll try to offer some clarity here:

All item abilities will carry over into Omega. If you currently have an item with a special ability on it, that special ability will be equipped on your item when you login. You'll see a new icon inside the item details pane that visually shows any abilities your item has. These abilities are called "Cores" in Omega. You'll have two core slots available on all of your Weapons, Guns, Auxiliaries, and Armors when the release launches. In the picture below, you see the Passive Core slot on the left and the Active Core slot on the right.

[image]http://cms.battleon.com/ed/images/core_demonstration_DNs.jpg[/image]

Above is a sample of roughly what the inventory will look like when you login. Notice the tiny lock icon that appears on the Spreadfire icon within the item details pane. This lock indicates that the Passive Core on Dage's Haunted Boomstick cannot currently be replaced with a new core. Because the system is going to be new to everyone, including us, we're going to initially lock any core slots that already include a special ability. This is a safety measure to prevent players from accidentally replacing exclusive cores that might no longer be available for sale. As you can see in the picture, you can still edit the Active Core, upgrade the stats on the item, and reconfigure it any way you like.

This part is really important: Just because a core slot is currently locked on a particular item does NOT mean that the slot will remain locked permanently. The beauty of the new system is that we can lock and unlock the core slots at our discretion. Consider a passive ability like Exoskeleton. Exoskeleton is an "event ability" that was useful against the Delta Vault during the Infernal Infiltration War. Now that the war is over, Exoskeleton doesn't serve much purpose in normal battle. In Omega, when we're ready, we will unlock the Exoskeleton core slot and allow players to replace it with a new Passive Core of their choice. The point here is that we can unlock core slots on items whenever we want or need. This will allow a high level of flexibility for creating exclusive weapons, event items, and specialty cores, while simultaneously not junking up the database with a bunch of obsolete items.

So if you're eagerly waiting to crack some skulls with that special item in your inventory, you're in luck. A primary goal of Omega is make sure that all items remain viable battle options. Like the way a sword looks but don't like it's current stats? change'em up ... Or maybe you own a cool set of blades but the special ability is no longer useful for your build? Swap it out.

The main takeaway here is that we're going to do our best to ensure you always have options to customize and improve your gear. I'll offer up more about the process of adding a core to an item soon, but for now back to the code!

Blaze The Aion Ender -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 20:57:48)

*shrug*
I figured if you had say, massive strike on your item, you could take it off, and add it to a different weapon when you wanted
Oh well, don't matter

EDIT: Also, I have decided that whatever happens in this game, I will just go with it
I will no longer complain about whatever my problem is, and an unannounced factor will determine me as a paying customer in the future
So, I say this like it once was in my hands, Omega is out of my hands, make it work, devs

T.600 -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 21:03:09)

So...you have like 2+ months to work on this and you won't be pressing what you make seem like a simple unlock button for a skill?

Leems segit.

Nub Apocalypse -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 21:05:52)

Oh gee, 8 cores in total... Great idea to remove enhancements and then say "but the community asked for it" when people start complaining about how much varium will be wasted on skill cores.

Sympleton -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 21:12:04)

^but skill cores can be taken off weapons and put on others, whereas enhancements on weapons were useless after a while. Skill cores will always be usable, meaning it would not be a waste of varium to buy them.

Also, I don't think I really like the locked core part. If you want to have certain cores only be available to people who bought certain items (Which I have no problem with, it gives an incentive to buy weapons other than looks), then have these cores work like any other promo items. You can take them off, but they are unsellable.

Btw, yes I heard the part about how they will eventually take the lock off these cores, but why not right away?

Nub Apocalypse -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 21:18:24)

I might have missed something, but where did you get the info on being able to remove and add skill cores? It'd be great if this was the case, but from the image on the DNs, I don't see an inventory slot to put these skill cores, and I don't imagine being able to put skill cores anywhere else. And don't get me wrong about completely disliking the idea, i'm only cynical to the fact that there is a potential that even more varium will have to be spent (considering they will probably release tonnes of skill cores). I love the idea of 8 different cores, because this is what's going to distinguish the good and bad players in ED. 8 is a pretty great number which allows a greater pool of possible combinations. In the end, it will be about who has the brains to use them with synergy, and thank god this would make builds infinitely harder to copy.

Sympleton -> RE: January 16 Design Notes (1/16/2013 21:22:18)

I guess I just assumed that what skill cores you put on your weapon would be your choice, because

1. The active slot for the Dage's Boomstick is empty
2. It would be... Well really just terrible if I had no choice what cores I had. That would be an enormous step in the wrong direction if all items came with pre-set and un-removable skill cores.
----
Edit : woops, I misunderstood you. What I meant to say was that it would be awful if you couldn't remove skill cores and put them (as you said) in your inventory.

Waxor9001 -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 22:08:16)

This looks awesome, can't wait.

beastmo -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 22:26:13)

I can't wait. But I know I will have to wait a while for this release.

ED Prince of Shadows -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 22:27:38)

I am dying to find out what the new skill cores do!

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 22:38:13)

All this sounds great, but the only prob is waiting ....

TRizZzCENTRINO -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 22:38:56)

@blaze eh...no, you won't be able to put massive strike or other exclusive special onto another weapon.

King FrostLich -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 23:15:00)

So by my current gear, I have Delta Knight which is a passive and Frostbite that is a passive. Hopefully, I got space for massive strike lol.

Drianx -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 23:48:19)

I wonder if they will rework the weapon pricing system.
Current system is so old and broken.

Hun Kingq -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 23:53:07)

So now everyone understands more about how the skill cores work we can actually move on to the names of the skill cores that is built already and what they do.

I am glad they are keeping the weapons unique like the stun gun sets will stay the as the only weapons to stun and the dage weapons will be the only weapons with spread fire but it would been cool to see the stun gun sets with spread fire.

ND Mallet -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/16/2013 23:56:31)

@frost Probably only if you have one of the Infernal Interdictor weapons and probably only on that will you have Massive Strike. Many of the weapons and armors we have now will be locked to the Skill Cores we have(mainly because the main reason they were bought were for that skill on them). Then you also have to consider logically. Frostbite wouldn't make sense on something with no ice on it at all.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 0:10:00)

@Devs

Any info about the cores of Omega Weapons ??

Dimentic -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 0:33:30)

@Soul These cores shouldn't be buyable imho so let them be a surprise.

kaiseryeux21 -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 2:41:15)

i can sense another very long journey towards omega. Though it promises a lot of new and exciting stuff, the waiting is just too much already. well, its their game not ours. goodluck dev's and take your time.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 2:48:30)

^ I don't think so,we play, so our game, they sure own, but if theirs no1 to play, then ??

As already suggested by me, release the completed content or take help from AQW team ...

kaiseryeux21 -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 2:51:23)

^ ED has so much pride on them, i dont think they would entertain any help. From the looks of it, they are taking their time and its good for them. But is it good for the players?? i don't think so.

Scyze -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 2:54:34)

@SOuL Prisnor,

AQW's codes doesn't match with ED's. It will not be good. Since when is it your game? Comeon, its not your's.

Releasing something right now isn't going to do much good. EpicDuel is small unlike AQW.

SouL Prisoner -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 3:35:56)

Theirs a diff between mine, yours and OURS and I said Ours' ..

And I never said to copy paste Aqw codes into ED, just take help in any way they can ..

Scyze -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 3:39:26)

How is EpicDuel your game? I'm curious to know.

Oh BTW, if the AQW people come to help, they wont be that useful since they will be more into AQW stuff.

TRizZzCENTRINO -> RE: =ED= Titan Core - Jan. 16, 2013 (1/17/2013 3:45:27)

@soul you know there is a difference between AQW and ED art and codes, i do not think it would be best for ED if AQW helps, to be honest im already not liking the thanks giving items because they truly do not fit ED art style.

and this is not our game, we are the consumers not the creators, are you saying that every restaurant is ours because there won't be a restaurant if we don't go there?

quote:

we play, so our game, they sure own

hmm so the devs own our game....this makes the ED devs kinda like artix. XD
