who cares if they nerf this skill slightly...the game will still be the same. Boring pvp fights, nothing to do, small updates every 7 days...You guys need to start thinking outside the box. From my several months of playing I know nerfing and buffing won't
solve anything in the long run. You 1 year+ players should know this by now.

While I am neutral with this idea you have to remember most merc players went from being underpowered to finally being able to compete and now when someone comes and suggest nerfing the thing that helps the compete you know they are going to say no because the fear they will become underpowered once again.

That's when you can say 'it's obviously too risky to perform'.

In which case, I wouldn't have suggested this balance despite having to deal with 'em.

I think that Atom Smash for mercs should be nerfed. They can steal energy from you every three turns.

Pretty much Tactical Mercenary should be the only one having trouble with this move.

The merc gives the TLM tons of energy from bunker, then takes it with static smash. Repeat. There's nothing TLM can do about it.

Every class is weak to Static Smash. Because Mercenaries can be tanky ( and because their passive requires 42 support ) you'll find yourself when playing against a merc that they'll go 1st equal amounts of times, even so, all they ever do is bunker, then Static Smash. Again, because they're so tanky like their tact merc counter parts they have nothing to fear from using a turn to drain energy meaning that if you're fighting a merc you'll have to find someway to use all your energy which half the time isn't possible before they steal it. Aftwards, any attempt to recover your energy will be met with another Static Smash. People may say "Can't Tech mage do the same" that's the thing, Static Smash takes and recovers so much more energy that it's more viable than Assimilate.

Bloodmage has intimidate and high damage.
Tech Mage can easily burn all of its energy if it wants to. Plus can keep a bit control with assimilate.
Hunters have blocks, and EMP grenade removed the energy they stole. Debuffs easily rid their defenses.

TLMs try to stall turns, but that's all merc needs to ready Static Smash from its cooldown. Plus, they are basically making energy for the mercs.

there is always the aux core that can shut down a move, as well as the pyro fly. Most Merc's have this move in their top 3 most invested moves so you stand a good chance of put this move on cooldown for 3 turns, or shutting it down for the duel.

I use the pyro fly with my alt and most of the time i get static smash. (unless they support build with support multi)

Blood mage I guess since they don't rely on energy much ( or can't )

Tech mage? The glass cannon ones maybe, not the casters.

Hunters? You're assuming the Merc has no physical defense, mainly caster mercs do, they're equal, even if they get off a emp they'll just be energy mashed.

I EMP after I get energy smashed. Malfunction gets rid of their bunker buster. Smoke makes static smash block more. Cybers get a lean on generator's health, so they don't make any energy. At the same time extending their life.

Feedbak superior. Mercenaries inferior (◣_◢)

Guys, Static smasher is not really op at all. You just need strategy and skills to beat the merc... its not that hard to beat a merc with smasher... You can use smoke, to avoid it + Block cores... . You can EMP him and more........ and i agree with Dual thrusters.. Its not only * i will post a topic, because i cant defeat a mercenary with static.. * use a strategy, cores, skills, its not That impossible and hard to beat a merc with static.....

I want to say more, but i will leave it at this GG

that would be good if all classes had smoke. Only bounty hunter has smoke and the only other way to remove dex is with omega override and even with that dex must be the highest stat. Also Emp is a hunter skill as well.

No, you just used biased statements consisting your experience towards them against your class and how you can defeat them.

This does not go for any other class but Bounty Hunter. Every class doesn't have Smokescreen but only debuffs like Malfunction which increases the opponent's chances of being deflected and Intimidate which reduces Strength with the same base number as Smoke and Malfunction and so the Mercenaries can use that to tank against you until they regain their Energy back.

I don't think strategy helps everytime when they can easily eat up a class.

Personally I don't think it's OP. Just use all your energy as soon as you can, even if it's on useless skills, then merc turns into TLM that can't even regain energy. Only problem with this is reroute, but I would blame that on how underpowered reroute is these days. Reroute is extremely predictable, can't even be shut off on will because sometimes you don't want to get more energy, and barely gives energy back compared to the HP / damage endured by passive armors and blood lust.

As witnessed, most TLM's have tanky performance which means if the opponent Strike they will averagely hit low Damage and a low Energy regain wouldn't harm you even if you don't want to share your Energy with Static Smash and Assimilation.

some classes is impossible to have skills that consume a lot of energy to prevent the SS abuse

Say for example TLM, barely uses energy for 3 turns until a surgical(if invested high points), and most likely in that 3 turns SS already happened

unlike bloodshield which offers you longer lasting protection in exchange, giving up health to restore energy would be a nerf that could hurt merc's when battling against certain players.
