Jekyll -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/7/2014 23:05:24)

For me, I don't use my aux often, so it's easy to keep track of when I actually use it. In the past 3 hours, I've used it 14 times, getting 3 stuns along the way. Small sample size, I know, but it's a start.

It's 4am for me right now, I'm really tired, but this is the best I've gotten so far.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/8/2014 12:54:17)

I've been stunned more than twice a few times, I just don't believe at times that that stun rate is really 30%, even with 18 support there is just no way I get stunned 3/5 stun attempts.

toopygoo -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/8/2014 18:46:05)

I have been reocrding my blocks as a smoke BH.

i have 83 dex.. i wouldnt say that is low in any way, yet check out what happened after 100 battles :/

im not saying anything, but the numbers speak fro themselves in my case. =135950143&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=0]blocks

And i have ninja reflexes... which isnt a whole lot, but it means that no one had that advantage over me.

Jekyll -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/8/2014 21:36:09)

Just tested out with George Lowe (3 battles, 12 stun grenades used). He stunned me 9/12 times.

30% --> 75% stun chance.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 1:11:50)

It just seems like the smallest, and I mean smallest dex advantage leaves you vulnerable to spam block. I've had people give me that dex lecture on how they blocked/deflect 4 times in 1 fight. I'd then I'd look at their dex tech and its the standard 45+30. Really? 18 dex advantage? Ridiculous block rates lately. I've almost came to the conclusion that the +stats don't matter. If your initial stat is lower than your opponents say -40 after smoke, prepare to be blocked furiously.

Dual Thrusters -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 1:18:51)

Well I can assume that when the staff said they would multiply everything by 10....

...luck factors got multiplied as well?

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 1:27:34)

I don't think it would be that drastic but sometimes I do think it was. It's just something about being blocked 4 times in a row that gets under my skin. I expect a block I really do, its part of my strat to get blocked. But to get blocked so often by standard 45+30 when my dex is 25+33 that 18 dex difference is just ludicrous.

Ranloth -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 4:39:41)

You can't multiply luck factors... If I had 20% chance to block, now I have 200% chance - so I get to block... two of your attacks, when you've attacked once? Probability adds up to 100% - you cannot go beyond that, when you're working with luck factors.

toopygoo -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 18:58:52)

well by the "technical" theory, the maximum % would have been increased as well so it would be 200/1000 so that wouldnt have changed.

I think there are still numerous ways they could reduce this current occurnece in luck though.... i hope it will come through within the next month of balances.

Hun Kingq -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/9/2014 21:19:26)

The problem with stuns started when lower level complained about loosing to higher level players so they did something to give the lower level players a greater advantage but they did not need to do that but when they did that affected the stats pertaining to blocks, deflections, and stuns, just to list three so what they need to do is undo those changes because low level players can compete just as good as higher level players. Yesterday, a tech mage with support at 17 was able to stun a player with higher support twice in one match while with my higher support I did not stun anyone once. Maybe they should move stun skills to improve with support since that is the stat that deals with it.

Jekyll -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/10/2014 1:56:06)

I have 90 dex. To date, I have not blocked a single attack of the CH poison-massacre build which tends to have only 40-50 dex. I've fought at least 70 of them.

Just got stunned 4 times in 6 tries by someone with 5 more support than me. This is no longer a one-off event. It's apparent that something is truly wrong. Still no word from the devs.

ValkyrieKnight -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/10/2014 2:04:24)

^ Likewise, it seems to be totally off I'd really like to see detailed numbers on how you gain block rate per date at what numbers. Enough with the insane block rates some fights, and non existed on others. Lucky Duel is back.

Goony -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/10/2014 3:49:33)

Stats (str, dex, tech and sup) didn't change with this update, so I can't really see how the rate of blocks and stuns would be effected unless the base calculation was modified and I highly doubt that these have been touched. Just my opinion!

At one stage, when I was active as a moderator and tester, I created luck calculations that were based on trigonometry. What this type of calculation method would do is that it would replace the direct comparison method (i.e linear that has minimum and maximum chances) with a curve that compared the statistical difference and would give a value from 90 to -90 (i.e. the the min and max value of a right angled triangle with a statistical advantage/disadvantage) Then, depending on if the value was above or below zero a chance factor was created.

The issue with the calculation method is that it's trigonometry and not easy to explain how the chance value is calculated as it actually used 2 RNG functions. One RNG determined if there was to be a luck factor, this part of the equation could be based on previous turns/level difference etc... and then the other RNG would occur if the outcome of the first value was true. It then compared the chance factor to a random value to determine if there would actually be a luck factor. The result could be easily varied by having a static fixed value (luck modifier) that was triggered by an if statement e.g if x >= 50 then the luck factor would occur. x being the sum of the chance factor times random plus modifier. Way too hard to explain in simple terms :(

So the choice is easy to explain, but erratic luck output or hard to explain with refined chance output. That is not to say luck would be removed from the game, just the more suspect one would be harder to obtain! In my opinion luck should also favour the lower levels because, due to the statistical difference the higher levelled players will in most cases always have more luck. Maybe I didn't explain it to Rabblefroth very well ;)

Also when I was stuffing around with flash I traced the output of the Adobe RNG function one million times, stuck the output in excel and averaged the output. Guess what? The RNG works fine ;)

Anyway, Epic Duel without luck factors would be called Boring Duel.

Edit:typos

@Goony

Actually EpicDuel without luck factors would be called Strengthbuildsarecompletelyoverpoweredandunbeatablesupportisuselesseveryoneinthegameisusingstrenghtbuilds Duel

toopygoo -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/10/2014 19:10:30)

however, i hope you guys realize how luck factors can in fact be limited. RNG or not, you can put anything in counter loops, and thus disable luck after a certain amount has been reached.

you can decide that no more than 3 blocks per game are allowed for 1. You can limit, that at a 40 dex difference the person with less dex cannot block at all. you can make it so that you can only stun a maximum of 2 times per game. You can limit every single one of these factors, without knowing Java i kinow these are possible to limit because it is a basic math function.

There are so many measures they could take to not "balance" but limit these endless, close to impossible luck factors. They should not ensure that everyone has a 2% chance to block. Because in my experience, that 2% because 85% whenever i strike on a rage because it is an easy kill.

I do suggest some of these limiting factors are explored and considered because i am considering getting more varium packs, but at the rate at which the game is going, i am also considering leaving for a long while... Please.

Pemberton -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/11/2014 0:16:14)

It's funny when you complain about unlucky fights only and you discard the other fights you get lucky. Biased selective memory.

toopygoo -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/11/2014 14:47:12)

yeah its also funny, how i feel for my oponents against whom i have good luck against, and i acknowledge them about my good luck. However if you checked my numbers that i posted, you will see that i do indeed get bad luck more than i do good. Its not that i dont remember those games, its just they happen less frequently.

GearzHeadz -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/11/2014 15:19:44)

I usually make the comment "Woah my luck is crazy" If I get very lucky in a fight. For one, its true, and for two, it makes my opponent feel better knowing that I acknowledged my own luck.

Lord Barrius -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/11/2014 17:28:38)

This doesn't seem like a discussion that we can have without some focus on balance, so I'm going to ask that if you have any numerical concerns about stun/block rates that you relocate the discussion to the balance forums. Thank you.

toopygoo -> RE: Increase in stuns and blocks? (1/11/2014 17:28:41)

you know what dirves me absolutely bonkers? when someone 25 dex blocks me, then stuns me right after, even though i have more than 3 times their dex... allowing block % and deflect % to reach 0. If someone has invested enough dex or has made an effort to reduce their opponents, then 0% should be allowed as the safety. It inexplicable how many times i am getting blocked by people lower dex than i. Although i do once or twice a day notice i block someone with higher dex than me, i think thats unfair too, if the gap is high enough...

someone with only 25 dex should not be able to still block someone with 80. A balance is necessary to avoid really lopsided tech/dex builds... it seems that the current precautuions taken havent met the numbers expected, and changes affecting this should be made.
