  • Gingkage -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 15:44:07)

Though probably my least-used class, I absolutely love the Ascendant armor. It has my favorite attack animations out of all the armors. I might have to use it for a bit just because of how epic it is.

    Brian012 -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 16:12:14)

JUST got Ascendant Armor last night. It's interesting, and I wish I could save it in my armor closet! I really like adventuring with my mage base-class armor. But if I could use Ascendant from my armor closet, I MIGHT just switch over to that as my main armor. lol :D

Still more I want to learn about it to maximize it's usefulness. I like that the skills are basically beefed up versions of my basic mage skills. Not so crazy about the extra MP it takes to wield those spells, but, tradeoffs are often required for such interesting things. ;)

Nice to see an official discussion thread for this armor. :)

Sora To Hoshi -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 18:42:37)

    I. Love. This. Class. Mage has always been my base class, went from Mage to DragonMage now Ascendant. The animation is beautiful and probabaly the only reason why Ive been warring more then usual since I can 1 hit KO pretty well with it.

Zyrain -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 18:49:21)

My best class! Since completing Chapter 2, I've used nothing else. I love mage-based classes, and this one is just so powerful.

Though I tend to only use two attacks really (Ascension and Ageisk's Fury), I must echo what Sora has said as the animations for all the attacks are simply incredible. Though, admittedly, I imagine that they'd look a lot nicer in cyan. ;)

It's going to take one hell of a class to make me stop using Ascendant as my main.

Sakurai the Cursed -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 19:05:48)

I absolutely love this class - it's extremely powerful, and second only to DL in terms of awesomeness imo - but I wish there was proper documentation for it... The encyclopedia entry is wrong about a lot of stuff, but even though I've recorded each skill's damage at each Boost level with a stable weapon (and with no weapon) I can't figure out the formula, except perhaps that the Boost is broken in some way that screws with the damage calculation.

One thing though, which makes this class so very, very powerful, is that The Wand does way more than +90% damage to Frozen enemies; it's more like triple the damage, and when you combine that with the massive Boost Ascendant can achieve... That damage is just scary.

Question Mark? -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 20:18:46)

I really enjoy this class, although for a class based on the cosmos, with such cool looking animations, it's a bit lacking in the color department. Some cosmic indigo and nebula green would certainly not go amiss here!

Frostburn -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 21:51:28)

Love the class. I switch between this and Soulweaver all the time. Hard hitter given the correct order of skills, and a good ice fire weapon. The boost is also a nice touch, I hope they make it unique to the Atelean classes.

Brian, you can still save the armor from Orb of Saving. ;)

Alpha Centipede -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/19/2014 23:04:50)

Ascendant is probably the most-used class I have ever since I got it. Not only are the animations fantastic, but it can dish out a load of damage as well. You can beat just about any medium-to-hard difficulty boss with it.

@Frostburn: A fire weapon would work better, in my opinion. Given that one of its skills give the enemy -25 resistance to fire.

Dracojan -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/20/2014 1:25:53)

rarely any classes can take down a boss as quickly and reliably as ascendant. the dps and the effects are very powerful. and the class has the best animations in the game.

Silver -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/20/2014 7:38:14)

Yay, an ascendant thread, finally! =D

And Dracojan, I agree, but only for some bosses. Ascendant is extremely strong when it comes to power and combos. But it lacks reliable healing, without the help of potions (the mana heal which heals 10% mana isn't very useful, but better than the 1% you get with normal mage). It also lacks defensive skills, with thorny shield being the only one. It may not be useful for ALL bosses, unfortunately, especially ones which can stun you.

I also agree on the animations, but the animations sometimes makes the game lag, in certain animation parts. =/ And since the animations are also slightly long, it isn't so great for farming.

Imo, stronger skills for more mana is a really good deal ;) ascendants are easily 3x as effective at killing monsters than an ordinary mage (if not more). And there isn't much involved in learning how to use this armor, since its skills are wielded the exact same way normal mage skills are wielded.

Dracojan -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/20/2014 7:53:34)

the 60% blind is much better than the shield. also the stun seems to stut every time for me. thats the defence. if you rotate between your offensive skills and blind, you wont have time to use the crappy skills.

Talion -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/20/2014 16:03:03)

I dont use this class since I only have a warrior char. Is it proportionally powerful as Riftwalker? The latter has insane damage but no def at all. How exactly is Ascendant?

Sakurai the Cursed -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/20/2014 18:05:26)

Ascendant isn't as strong in the first few turns as Riftwalker so it's not as good at farming, but past those first few turns it's much stronger. Ascendant is also better defensively; both classes have a 3-turn stun with a 10-turn cooldown, but Ascendant's main defense is a 5-turn -60 bonus with a 6-turn cooldown, which is miles better than Riftwalker's 5-turn -50 boost with a 10-turn cooldown.

My bad, thanks for noticing. Indeed, a fire weapon would work better.

Does not lag for me. Mediocre at farming IMO. I usually use the power boost skill for one hitting enemies, but sometimes it just doesn't make it. The 'Final' skill's animation is a bit longer but more efficient. There's that. Regarding defense, the class is not that bad, as Dracojan said.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (1/21/2014 0:55:56)

Definetly one of my favorites, although I wish:
we could have that cosmic skin
Tomix could finish some skills he left with an incorrect animation on purpose until he works better like the multi and the final (he actually heard us asking for something better and i believe he agreed on workin that more)

Besides that, I LOVED how it can nuke a fair amount of enemies with the ice + lightningbolt combo (expecially with a fire weapon), the two-hits stun (increaes chance of stunning) and the blind. The animations are top the chart, making this class pure awe.

(hint: for those who have the weapons Zurvana, they fit Ascendant so well they looks like designed for the class)

In my experience, the element doesn't matter for Ascendant, only the fact that you used the skill.

I was incredibly happy when this came out. I liked normal mage gameplay, but the normal mage was weak, and the Dragonmage was also rather weak and didn't appeal, looks-wise. The mana costs are not a big deal past level 40 or so, which I think is the intended range of use.

I love the animations and the extra power. (Although I wish that we could properly change the eye color. I'm getting tired of blue.)

All in all, a great class that is a pleasure to play.

Wyker -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (2/14/2014 15:43:51)

I just beat impossible doom crawler on hard mode (20000hp 1000 damage) with no pets or guests with this armor. The third most powerful offensive armor in the game after Dmk and Kathool.

    Icestar_0 -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (2/15/2014 0:38:04)

This is definitely my most used class. I haven't really played anything else since I unlocked it. Its powerful, magic based and beautifully animated, so in my eyes its pretty much perfect. :)
The only thing its missing is a heal skill and maybe a new animation for the for the second half of Multi-strike. And I guess the lines of the stomach and back on the female Ascendant might be a little inorganic, but I've probably just been staring at the armor too long XD. Personally I think its the best armor in the game.

Glerax -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (2/15/2014 0:40:54)

Personally, I must say that I use Riftwalker and Cryptic a lot more than Ascendant. However, Ascendant is still good with it's gradually gaining bonus power.

Xanaomin -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (2/15/2014 0:45:09)

Ascendent's a pretty powerful class. I find it amusing that it can weaken others to fire while the creators of the class themselves are weak to fire and light, but that's just a bit of flavor mishap. I mean, starting out with a two hit stun, and being at full power by the time the monster's able to start swinging? it's already insane like that. And then there's the far more improved variation of the fireball combo it's got as well. This sucker can kill pretty much anything in 6 turns flat.

Eonnovastriker -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (3/3/2014 11:27:34)

Ascendant is my fav class so far. it makes great damages and it's pretty much powerful. it helped me a lot with quests I couldn't finish before.

bahamut mage -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (7/15/2014 14:58:18)

I want to like this class but I honestly don't like how the armor looks. The skills are fine, just not the armor. Maybe if we could eventually show the armor we want but equip the armor with the skills we want, similar to how we do our other equips, then I would use it. Otherwise, for now I'm sticking with Dragon Mage. It has a more traditional "wizard" look to it that the Ascendant armor seriously lacks.

ShimmerSoul -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (7/15/2014 15:06:21)

Really? I like Ascendant primarily because of its looks - it's not a conventional wizard armor, it's a magical space-seer-astrological-prophet-rune-circle-casting-alien thing, so it makes sense to me that it doesn't look like anything from Lore. Riftwalker doesn't look much like a knight (though it comes the closest out of the three), and Cryptic doesn't look anything like a rogue.

Okay, I LOVE the design of this class. Those magical circles and rings with the star signs and space-halo background...wow. Just Wow. I only have one gripe about it - its "Final" animation is too long. That extra "Staff" animation stuck on the end looks tacky and pointlessly slows down farming. I cringe whenever I see that, and I go far out of my way to avoid using it. I don't especially care for it during wars or regular battles since it usually takes longer than with Necromancer or Soulweaver, but it's absolutely gorgeous and insanely useful for boss battles. I wouldn't hesitate to say this is my favorite class ever, not just in DF.

pitties -> RE: =DF= Ascendant Armor Discussion Thread (7/16/2014 1:54:24)

Isn't that position held by timekiller (imho tk hits higher than kathool)? TK has massive damage plus every kind of defensive skill with low cooldowns to boot!

anyways, about ascendant. When the atealan classes came out, I spent alot of dcs trying them all. I liked ascendant's massive damage, but I'm a fan of speed, so I decided to use cryptic.
