Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing

Hey there, heroes!

This week... it's Friday the 13th! Previously, the Avatars of the Elements summoned you and a foreign hero named Uaanta to their presence. There, they decalred the both of you as their Champions, and warned you of the impending threat of the Maleurous: a group of mysterious individuals who the Avatars declare must be stopped at all costs. Last Friday the 13th, Oaklore came under attack by the armies of the first of these beings, Sinnocence, who appeared to be suffering under the conflicting influence of Doom and Destiny weapon spirits!

Now, some time has passed, and Friday the 13th has come around once more. The threat of the Maleurous grows ever closer...

Head over to Uaanta in Book 3 Falconreach to play this week's release: Ex Somniis Fabula!

Also this week, the September Dragon Coin weapon is now available!

Chaosweaver is intended to be an extremely offense based class. Its defensive options are costly and require planning to use well. Proper timing of Soul Gambit is important as to not leave you open to getting destroyed in retaliation. That said, there are some strong defensive combos that can be pulled off with proper use of Untangle. We look forward to your feedback!

ChronoEye -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:26:05)

I feel betrayed.

No War on the 13th?

I'm out.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:26:39)

Finaly Chaosweaver is here and I'm LOVING it x3
the mechanic seems simple enough, at first the 8 soulthreads requirement for shield and stuns seemed too much, but with skills like Unravel to quickly top your threads and the fact they carry over to the next battle, I see the management of soulthreads isn't such a nightmare. Also, I printed all possible soul claws :3
Just a warning: unlike SW, your soul claw only appears during the fight.
ChaosWeaver soul looms

Kinzdor -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:30:19)

Have been away from AE games for a while. Came back on the 13th hoping for war....this plot lines still pretty cool. Next Friday the 13 is in December so that should be something special.

megakyle777 -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:31:09)

Welp, this Malorious is a bloody nightmare. Literally. I think I'd prefer the war. Wars are SIMPLE. DX

spoiler:

Did anyone catch those brief cutouts in the quest? I feel like they'd clarify a lot more the true nature of this jerk. Hope you got your capture button ready.

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:32:40)

I find it weird that bacon doesn't have it's own design but disease does.

I like the mirror of many of chaosweaver's skills and soulweavers. But what is with the animation for the shield consuming Aegis? Isn't that suppose to be fleshweaver's thing? And the red guy that appears behind us, isn't that Secundus who is also suppose to be the fleshweaver guy?

ergotth -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:37:56)

@Kurtz
Secundus is supposed to grant us both fleshweaver and chaosweaver, considering he is the founder of all soul houses, makes sense he can teach us the darkest paths.

Zealwrath -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:39:07)

this is a very cool release though i might be one of the few that was thankful there wasn't a war. now a quick question has anyone else experience a glitch where if you use a mana potion with chaos weaver it wit go into a sit position and become stuck?

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:40:09)

Isn't the point of DC classes being non-canon that there is no one to teach us? So why is chaosweaver a DC class if Secundus is there to teach us? We are already learning fleshweaver from him.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:42:38)

Well, yea, Chaosweaver is non-canon, but at least the aesthetic could MATCH the story, right? Would make SENSE we would learn it from Secundus, not saying it has to be, besides, canon or not, Secundus will be the NPC to get both classes from, he is hidden in Ravenloss.

Glais -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:48:21)

iirc Secundus is going to be the one to sell ChaosWeaver once it goes live, so I guess even though it's technically non-canon they've provided that little story bridge, maybe just for roleplaying purposes. Tomix also stated its designed as "the traditional garb of ChaosWeavers" so there's some merit to its aesthetics accurately representing story bits.

I'm having a lot of fun with the class so far, bit disappointed it'll be DC as I'd love to have it on every character.

Kurtz96 -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:49:17)

My point is why is chaos weaver non-canon? The reason for other DC classes is there is no one to teach us. Secundus is right there and can teach us chaos weaver so why do we have to spend DC to get this class. Unlike fleashweaver we don't even have to get rid of Aegis to use the class.

eddyydde -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:54:14)

Currently, I think the optimal strategy for ChaosWeaver is to gather 8 soulthreads, preferably by ending a separate battle with 8 soulthreads since they carry over between fights, and use Aegis into Gambit into Rebuke into Untangle. It deals the most damage, without leaving the player open to attack after using Gambit, and leaves players with 8 soulthreads to use for further defensive skills if it's not enough. There's no reason try and do anything else because you have to use Gambit as efficiently as possible without opening yourself up. Following Gambit with anything else doesn't deal enough damage and preceding Gambit with anything else doesn't provide enough defense.

While I find the Gambit mechanic interesting, I find the class to be really one-note. There's not a whole lot of ways to approach a fight because of how powerful, but polarizing Gambit is. One way to improve this might be to make it so that Gambit adds special effects to the other abilities, rather than just increasing its damage. This way, players are given more options to follow up Gambit with, rather than just picking whatever deals the most damage.

ergotth -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:54:17)

Its also important to notice Chaosweavers are NOT inherently evil. What happens is that by Edelian law, soulweavers are PROHIBITED to use soulweaving for battle, with a really skimming exception of life-and-death situations. Any soulweaver who uses it for combat is labeled a chaosweaver, so technicaly, Tomix was a chaosweaver all along, even if you disconsider Aspar and Pandora being corrupt spirits (although Pandora seems to have redeemed herself by atoning her sins anyway). Obviously being more combat-oriented and travelers by nature, Chaosweavers will be more offensive-leaning with their skills.

I'm honestly not sure why CW must be non-canon and fleshweaver be otherwise, when, comparing to other classes and their impact in the lore, CW are more like Necromancer and Deathknight, kinda dark and spooky, but doesn't really make you un-heroic. As for fleshweaver, it's almost like Doomknight, something 100% evil, revolting and cruel.

Glais -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 0:55:22)

Fair question, I wasn't even aware that was the reason they're non-canon to begin with. Just knew it was the general policy on DC classes.

This issue has been brought up before, how can the hero who is suppose to be unambiguously good (I asked if we could have the chance to make evil decisions in the game and got a firm no) become a fleshweaver.

We were told that the way it would happen would allow the hero to still be a good person. So I am guessing Aegis heroic sacrifice of some sort.

Wouldn't this be too close to DmK corruption skill? I would prefer if all classes are as different as possible (except when they are suppose to be similar like the base class->dragon base class->atelan base class)

ergotth -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 1:07:15)

Yea, I think they will use some sort of plot for fleshweaver to not look THAT evil. Besides, the hero isn't supposed to be "unambiguously good", but just... good, or at least, not prone to do something evil, but we still have our moments of punting Twilly towards a Gorilaphant or pushing a pactogonal knight inside the loo just for the heck of it. But we would never kill an ally, betray a friend or comit unjustified murder. Until further explanation, Fleshweaver still seems like a path way too dark for our hero, and Chaosweaver seems more like something that wouldn't make the hero... un-heroic. I mean, for pete's sake, chaosweaver is just a label by a VERY strict group of soulweavers xD (and I think any dragonfable player is well aware it's not the same "Chaos" from AQW)

Yeah, I used the wrong word there. The question I asked originally was something like "since this is a role-playing game can I role play the hero to be a jerk" and the answer was that the hero would always be basically a good character.
But there is a major difference between locking a dude in a bathroom compared to destroying Aegis just cause you think fleshweaver looks cooler.

Could someone tell me who secundus is and where to find her. I'm not as far in the story to know and would really like to get the Choasweaver armor when it does come out. Thanks in advance.

Sort of. The main difference is that Gambit comes with the downside of increasing the damage you take, so you need to make extra considerations before using it. Admittedly, it's not something I spent a huge amount of time thinking about. The main point is that the class in its current form is only good with one strategy. It's a one-trick pony.

raylas -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 1:43:27)

So I've been playing with Chaosweaver, and it is really fantastic, but I've found a major problem with it, and it's not even combat related. It's the weirdest bug I've ever found in this game, and it's honestly almost funny if not for the fact it can force a reload of the page if it happens in the wrong spot.

It gets hung up on walls. What I mean by this, take chaosweaver, go to the inn, walk up to the patrons sitting on the right-most side. You will get stuck against it, unable to turn around, and the only fix for this is to teleport away by going to your hometown, house, or opening a quest from the timeline. Then.... there's when this happens in quests. It's a complete hard-stop.

For instance: I got stuck against the rightmost wall in the Tournament of champions part 1. Couldn't teleport out to my hometown or house, had to reload the page.

And the worst example of this I've found: I was playing the Khvorost quest, and I went to fight the boss. Went through the screen to the left.... got STUCK ON THE SCREEN MARGIN. Could not move, if I did, I would snap between the boss screen and the screen I had left to my right.

This is a real big problem, it straight up ended two quests, and I was outright stuck on NOTHING in the Khvorost quest, I would just snap between the two screens.

Not sure what causes that. The class has offensive power somewhere just shy of the 10 plagues of egypt, but it's ultimate weakness is the wall. Guess Chaosweavers don't like Pink Floyd!

That's the only thing I've found thus far that would count as any kind of issue that I noticed. Otherwise..... feels like a pretty good offensive class. No complaints here!

Is anyone else not getting a Soulthreads meter displayed?

I'm getting the meter fine. Have you tried clearing your cache and all that?

Chaosweaver Amon -> RE: =DF= September 13th Design Notes: Maleurous: Part II and Chaosweaver Testing (9/14/2019 2:02:19)

I'm loving Chaosweaver 110%, even excluding my already existing love of the entire concept of Chaosweaving. The artwork is gorgeous, the animations are perfect--I really love the way that they make it look like Soulweaver's edgier cousin--and the fighting style is really something I enjoy; very offensive, straightforward and relatively simple, but not boring. It's far from a one-purpose class imo. The more I play with it the more versatile it looks. Can't wait for the proper release (I've been waiting on this one for YEARS).

A very...interesting quest, dream-based stories are always fun (loved the little nod to Kathool btw), and I'm enjoying the fact that the hero is beginning to see that the Avatars may not be all they're cracked up to be. Uaanta acting as a sort of foil and/or representation of an earlier version of the hero really helps us look into his/her internal growth. I'm excited to see where else this goes.

EDIT:@raylas: I'm starting to see the stickiness too...healing pads and right walls mostly.
