Necromancer hype! I can't wait to see how the source of necromancer powers differs from that of paladin powers.

I see the staff have the best priorities. Undead Giant and Fear were two of the holy trinity of necromancer skills, and they're clearly the most important skills to update.

Zennistrad -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 9:12:06)

What most interests me about the Necro update is the possibility of having more varied elemental skills. The final boss of the Paladin questline could attack with fire damage to catch players off-guard, and that fight was explicitly meant as a preview of the Necromancer class.

Given that the Necromancer Apprentice weapons trigger off of Paladins and armored enemies, it seems the Necromancer class will have far more specialized foes than Paladins (undead being easily the most common enemy type for Darkness mobs and one of the most common enemy types in general.) This would warrant some slightly more varied elemental abilities, IMO, since Paladins and armored foes aren't especially common.

J9408 -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 9:56:52)

Undead Summons? Is this class more focus on CHA?

LoreQuester -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 11:58:52)

Necromancer should get a trigger against undead, given how its whole theme is 'dominance over death'. Maybe a 20% damage nerf to every undead opponents should suffice?

@Zennistrad I'm pretty certain that the meat and potato of the preview was supposed to be the 'bone wall' mechanic (your undead minion has its own Hp and any damage dealt towards you would be directed to your minion instead)

The boss also used what is very clearly the Fear skill from the old necromancer class. Similar animation and everything

Sapphire -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 15:29:00)

Anyone ever post the info subs on the Necromancer Apprentice Staff?

PD -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 16:31:49)

^^ joac has provided a summary of the necromancer apprentice staff: http://forums2.battleon.com/f/fb.asp?m=22392391

If necromancer does end up using CHA as a crucial stat, then backlash mages will be a pretty good build option (250 INT/CHA/END) and will be able to utilize something besides backlash

Armsman -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 21:37:19)

I believe this update will be what the zoomers call a "big pog".

Seriously though, I remember the original release of Necromancer. Transforming into a lich for the first time was a hype moment for me. Can't wait to see how the new Necromancer turns out, especially after how fantastic new Paladin turned out.

Zennistrad -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 23:20:32)

Undead Mutant was the original nuke. I really can't wait to see how they adapt it eventually.

PD -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/21/2021 23:50:25)

Yeah, that Undead Giant, and Paladin with Holy Might, Holy Rage and Holy Light. 2007 AQ all over again.

I'm still wondering if at the end of all of this we'll still get Lich form in one way or another. Hoping so at least.

The Hollow -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/22/2021 12:00:52)

^Yes, Necromancer will retain the ability to transform into a powerful lich! We are actually dedicating an entire week just for the Lich Form and abilities, so this is what the release schedule looks like:

Necromancer testing
Class Skills 1-5
Class Skills 6-9
Lich Form and abilities
Class Skills 11-15
Class Skills 15-20
Advanced Quest and Class Armor Variants

Shiba -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/22/2021 13:19:04)

*Faints* This is going to be the best class revamp ever!

PD -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/22/2021 13:26:03)

\o/

Thanks Hollow, you’re the best!

What's the most interesting to me about this is that it implies that Lich form is not the final class skill.

Ninjaty -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/23/2021 5:18:10)

Paladin and Necromancer very much influenced how I played, back in the day.
It is going to be amazing to see how the Necromancer class will be handled. Paladin most certainly did not disappoint.

For the most part, I care little about AQ's story developments over the past 10 years and I don't really play the quests much; I mainly stick to random battles and old stand-alone quests from back in the day. The remade class quests, however, I absolutely love and relate to, as they feel so personal and contained. It felt amazing to play through the remade Dragonslayer, Knight and Paladin class quests. Sometimes I reset Dragonslayer and Knight, just to replay them again (I haven't done that with Paladin yet, as I only recently got it to max level), which is quite the rarity for me, as I usually dread having to redo things I have already done. Here's hoping that Necromancer will manage to capture those same feelings for me!

Skill wise, I feel I use about the same amount of skills per class as I used to back in the day. Even with all the skills of Paladin, I stick to around 4 skills, and mostly forget the others exist. I don't know if Necromancer will be the same for me in this respect, but Undead Mutant and Lich, were definitely the hightlights for me back then, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out (if Undead Mutant remains present, that is). I'm not quite sure what I think about the new Misc item aspect of the summons, though. It definitely has potential to be interesting, but I would prefer not having to dedicate item slots to anything other than the armor.

Look wise though, I highly prefer the old Necromancer class over the new one. The hooded robe just looked so much cooler, and more, well, Necromancer, to me, than a caped armor does. Could we get a version of the new class, that looks more like the old one? (I figured I'd ask, since skeleton customization is now a thing, so another aesthetic option might not be too unreasonable)

Still, I just turned one of my characters into a mage recently, and then this class got announced shortly after. Very much excited to give it a shot!

Biokirkby -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/23/2021 6:29:01)

Based on the numbering, it looks like Lich form will be the rank 10 ability, just like resurrection- presumably with multiple skills in said form rather than multiple different ways to activate it, a la resurrection flavours

The Hollow -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/25/2021 11:46:55)

This is looking like Saturday at the earliest folks -- there is a lot going on with the first 5 skills of Necromancer!

Vaulen -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/25/2021 22:37:16)

After Necromancer, I wonder what will be the next focus. Archmage perhaps? Maybe something that could be seen as a middle ground between Paladin and Necromancer?

Lv 1000 -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/25/2021 22:49:40)

Archmage is already confirmed to be the next tier 3 class.

PD -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/25/2021 23:24:53)

Really hoping the next T3 revamp after Archmage is Berzerker, Assassin, or Martial Artist (IE something more Warrior/Ranger focused). I remember in particular the hype around Martial Artist at the time it was released and the concept of 4 different fighting styles within a class was pretty revolutionary.

Anyways, looking forward to the release, in the meantime while this is more mage focused thanks to Quadforce I should be able to try out the skills to get a basic feel of what the class will play out like.

RobynJoanne -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/26/2021 7:04:22)

An update to Assassin would be a great time to fix Ranger's current identity crisis. I must admit to really looking forward to Dragonslayer's revamp even though it's only a T2 class since Paladin proved that a class with triggers on most of its skills (thus, being situational by default) can still be absolutely fantastic. It would be very interesting to see how things would develop with the limit of 10 skills. I also love the aesthetics of Dracomancer, and Lich could be an indicator of how a revamped Half-Dragon form will function.

I do wonder how the training of the other T3 classes will change since there's not much story around most of them. There's certainly no story justification for the new training like for Paladin and Necromancer. Perhaps, we can finally learn more about these classes.

J9408 -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/26/2021 10:01:06)

Dragonslayer is a Tier 2 Class?

I thought Dragonslayer were important for Lore. I mean there are so many dragons running around.

Lord Markov -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/26/2021 11:30:35)

Tiering is determined by class prerequisites. Tier 1 classes have no prerequisites, tier 2 classes have a prerequisite of at least one tier 1 class. Tier 3 classes have a prerequisite of at least one tier 2 class.

Ultimately how "important" the class is doesn't factor into it.

RobynJoanne -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/26/2021 11:41:54)

It's as Lord Markov says. Technically, the only current T3 classes are Necromancer, Paladin, and Assassin, and Archmage will almost certainly also be a T3 class if it has Wizard as a prerequisite. Of course, some T2 classes have substantially higher prerequisites than others.
