The Necromancer revamp seems to be leaning heavily into it being a partially CHA-based class.

This only makes sense; the entire conceit of being a necromancer is that you're commanding undead to do your fighting for you, so your ability to issue commands efficiently will naturally be a big part of your overall effectiveness.

We're getting Archmage next year, so I expect that will be the more the intended class for "pure" mage builds while Necromancer remains more geared towards beastmaster builds

Is that what it is going for?

I have not started the Necro Class yet. Playing as a Neko Beastmage is fun, but I think a class change would be great.

I'm somewhat more ambivalent regarding the skills. Hexpertise is blatantly unbalanced, while Deathless Knight and Undead Giant are power creep made manifest, being omni-elemental guest and skill that deal +50% damage.

Of the skills, I liked Grievous Weave and Anima Ward the best.

Maybe someone can explain this better than me. Undead Giant is omni-elemental, and it's overcharged. Shouldn't this skill cost more than it currently does? Torontosaurus Rex works largely the same way, but it costs 488 SP with that cost being justified due to EleComp after Overcharge. Necromancer's Undead Giant only costs 367 SP at level 150 and Class Skill Level 10, when a standard omni-element skill usually costs 392. I'm not sure how Elecomp is calculated but I feel almost certain that Undead Giant ought to cost more in SP according to standards.

Either way now it explains why it was so efficient when I was playing earlier.

RobynJoanne -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/28/2021 20:36:23)

I think it's because the skill uses the current level of Necromancer Cloak, so it's actually still quite underleveled even at class level 10, thus also costing far less SP than an equivalent level 150 skill.

Armsman -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/28/2021 20:47:11)

Yeah, even at max Necro level of 20, it'll still cost way less than an overcharged skill at level 150. Once you get the Advanced Necro armour, then it will be more in line with your expectations.

In my opinion, CHA for Necromancer only makes sense, if you want the undead to like the character, kinda like an undead best friend or pet, or if you're going to subtly manipulate/persuade them instead of downright controlling them. INT makes more sense for strategic combat decisions, you know, because the character is smart, and makes more sense in terms of dominating undeads to do your bidding, such as by overpowering their will with your own and actually commanding souls back into bones.

I still haven't started the class (darn Beastmaster rolls), but if it is the best friend/pet aspects it's going for, then the color customization of the skeleton suddenly makes sense. I thought that was a weird choice, for a class I expected to be about forcing the dead to abandon their peace to fight for you. Don't get me wrong, I can still go for some Shaman King-esque friendship with spirits, if that's what the class is about.

Crimson guy -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/29/2021 5:09:28)

Is the necromancer class training locked to guardians only for now. I am level 135 non guardian character and I am not able to level my beastmaster class beyond level 5. Vephoma ( beastmaster trainer) says you need to be a guardian in order to train beyond level 5. This would lock the requirement for starting the necromancer class training. Are adventurer able to access necromancer training.? Or is it a cache problem. I have cleared my cache several times. Thanks in advance.

Novyx -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/29/2021 5:47:19)

@ Crimson guy

It's an issue that's been raised with staff, but if/when it'll be rectified is unknown (especially the "when" part, as staff are pretty busy at this time)

RobynJoanne -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (6/29/2021 9:51:46)

I was training classes on my Alt to see which classes have levels locked for Adventurers. Dracomancer, Beastmaster, and Berserker are all locked after training to class level 5.

More importantly, Dragonslayer is completely impossible to train for everyone since the 4th level requires clicking on Kaley's old tombstone.

The Hollow -> RE: The Necromancer Class Overhaul Begins (7/1/2021 11:29:30)

The requirements for Necromancer have been updated to lvl 10 Mage and lvl 5 for Wizard and Beastmaster, so now Adventurers can train in the dark arts! The nightshade required for the lvl 4 Dragonslayer class checklist has been moved to the cemetery in Granemor, near the Halenro memorial.
