hey vader, i'm making practice signatures now, one question whenever i try the grunge background like with rust, it doesn't reallly look like rust.... cr*p

Viktor -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/12/2005 16:10:05)

Heh, thanks any way Vader, guess I'll just draw it in :P

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/13/2005 17:51:49)

spornax: to get it to look like rust, just make ultiple layers of brushing and play with the colors till it looks like rust

Viktor: I think there is an effect like that for PS, but I don't know of anything that will create that effect for Gimp, Good luck :)

wu218 -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 0:01:30)

SufferMe -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 11:45:13)

I'm New To GIMP (used to use PSP7)
And Loved Your Tuts
I Used The Scan Lines On My Sig
What Do You think Of It?

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 11:57:04)

thank you, It looks pretty good, but try putting the scanlines behind the render

SufferMe -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 11:58:17)

I Did But Then Put Them Over The Render To Make It Darker And Trust Me It Looks Much, Much Better With Scan lines

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 11:59:10)

alright, I trust you :)

SufferMe -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/15/2005 12:34:00)

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 16:18:48)

Memorex -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 16:49:48)

i went and saved a file and when i uploaded it it was blurry, anything i can do to stop that

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 16:54:28)

save as a .png they are higher quality, but it can be hard to keep it under the kb limit, like memorex.png for example

Memorex -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 17:00:08)

ok thx, i'll try it

ok it worked and i see what you mean by the size

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 17:06:30)

try setting it to 9 compression, and select as few options as you can

Memorex -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 17:08:12)

ok i'm gonna try that now and is there any other file names that are similar that i could use

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/16/2005 17:23:34)

not that I know of

spornax20 -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/17/2005 11:21:40)

hey vader, i made a sig for myself looky! hehe it's kinda crappy, i'm still a novice, could you teach me how to make more realistic siggys, like blending sam fisher form splinter cell with an actual splinter cell background? i wanna make siggys for my clan, i'm just not sure yet. oh and tried almost 76 time with rust thing, after 9 hours, i quit.

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/17/2005 18:22:59)

geez, 9 hours? your dedicated, I really don't know anything about the rust look, its not very common, but stay away from the "take a render and flip it and put it on both sides" thing, just use 1 render that takes up space, and the the text doesn't need to be super flashy, most pros just use default fonts, and you can add some effects to the text too, so just calm yourself on the text and use one render

Vader -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/17/2005 21:51:52)

*Update* added animation tut, should answer a lot of questions about animation in Gimp

spornax20 -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/18/2005 10:27:57)

hehe it's really 8 hours and 59 minutes, but 9 hours sounds more ominous, >.< I tried the one render thing to cover the whole sig, but the problem is when i resize the render, the picture always come out reallly crappy (without the chain link) but when i put on the chain link, the picture i want comes out nice, BUT the size i wanted is disregarded so i can't really put one render, unless of course it's ok to put the render with the chain link without some of the visible details on it, cuz it'll be cut for sure, I try to make sigs only about 100X300 i don't like 100X 500 i think their too big.

Neil the 2nd -> RE: Vader's Gimp tut (10/18/2005 10:34:26)

hey nice vader its good to see theres another dedicated gimp tutor round here nice one me and daykeem are on our second thread but nice tuts you got here
