I certainly hope MQ isn't in any danger of dying, personally. There's a lot about the game I like very much, in particular the ability to customize mechs to a good extent. I like to tinker a lot with most of my chassis and see what I can come up with. And I've found in some cases that an older (midlevel) chassis that I bought and rarely used can become very powerful if I mount more current, higher level gear on it.

However, as far as rares and SCMMs go, I agree with Vampire Fexy's suggestion of putting some of them in the SC club as part of the mech shop, because right now there's really not much in the club to hold new players' interests. The SC mech/weapon shops don't contain much that isn't also available in some form at Tek's, and the Extreme challenges are meant for veteran players. Might be nice to get a few more rewards available for them, as well as filling in some of the other level gaps that have been mentioned. Tek has a number of weapons that I think are good, but since they're only available at mid or low levels there's no reason to buy them. Perhaps there should be more versions of said weapons available, as is the case on planets like Westion and Zargon. Ultimately I think it is one potentially good solution to solving some of the equipment gap/equipment rarity problems.

At the least, I do agree that the staff should place a smaller emphasis on SCMMs right now. They're generally good units, but they shouldn't take priority over improving some of the other aspects of the game that have been largely static - new missions, continuing the war, etc. I also think it might be nice if players had the option of switching houses without betrayal (which should be kept, but shouldn't be the only means of doing so IMO) if they want to experiment with another house. The closest analogy I can think of to the houses is the Paxia clans in AQ, and last I played you could switch between those at will. I could be wrong or that may have changed since then, but I think that's the optimal way to go. But since the betrayal option is only once a year and leaves you in a bad way with your former house, I don't really see how it's the better option.

@Hellsoarer: That would probably make it worse. Ninjas are known to be OP in games. *coughAQWcough*

@Hellsoarer
I don't have a facepalm motivational poster for you, unfortunately.
Here's why it WON'T help:

  • It's SC-only, and thus will not benefit a majority of players.
  • It's 1-month-only, so after it's gone, nothing will have changed.
  • It'd add more to the ridiculous list of rares, which means that newer players STILL wouldn't have gotten anything half-decent.

List is not exhaustive.

That is basically the exact same as saying SCMMs make the game worse.

It isn't saying that, it is simply saying that 1 SCMM will not fix the game.

In case you haven't noticed, there actually is an argument that SCMMs make the game worse. ;)
I'm not saying that they do (although I may believe it in some small corner of my soul), but I AM saying that a ninja SCMM will NOT help matters AT ALL.

There's been discussion about whether or not MQ is dying with lots of opinions by players, but I am really intersted in what the staff of MQ think? I'd like to know if the staff thinks there is any chance of getting more help in producing MQ. Also if they are
going to take a break from the SCMMs to free up time to make more story content? If the SOON list will be addressed?
Is there anything the players can do like sign a petition or something requesting more staff?

In my opinion, I think improvements can be made if the SCMMs are put on hold for a while (or made bi/tri-monthly), if the MQ team skips holiday releases and focuses on permanent content and if the SOON list is addressed.
If improvements can be made this way I think MQ could retain more players, increase its revenue and rcieve more staff to help make it better.

With all due respect to the staff; something has ot be done. It can't keep on like this. You guys do great work but you're stretched too thin. Regardless of players' opinons of SCMM and if they should stay or not, we all love MQ and want it to grow into an even better game.

Live MechQuest, LIIIVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
MechQuest is dying and living for certain people for people that don't like MechQuest and think it is getting boring they think MechQuest is dying. For people who have no problem with MechQuest they think MECHQUEST SHALL LIVE ON

@Ein : Whats off-topic ? i dont see anything off-topic.... if you talking about the SCMM i dont see how they are off-topic since we are talking generally about whys the game is dying and the SCMM are one of the main reasons right now.

@Hellsoarer : Poeple saying there opinions doesnt mean they hate the game, i think MQ is dying right now, most of old MQ forumers think it is, i spent over 150$ on this game and i dont think i would spend them if i didnt like it, it used to be good but now the SCMM are almost taking over all the good releases, and the main story isnt as good as it used to be, as i cant even see one Shadowscythe in the new planets that are about the main story, its plan stupid for them to be quests for the main story.

Lay off the coffee.... You might think
OOh a SCMM, more rares yeey

But the majority of the players, especialy those that have been since the Birth of MQ
see what the real problem is...
Releases used to be Big in MQ, now we are lucky if we get a rare shop with weapons ( yes I say rare because I haven't seen any Non Rare items that are good nxt to the Ace Shards imo )

SCMM needs, Drawning, Testing, Coding etc and that takes WAY to much time, Time MQ doesn't have.

Do I say that they need to stop the SCMM?? No, but Stop the Every Month mech and make it an Every 3 month or whatever mech.

Like I said, MQ releases used to be big
First Artix was in charge but He descided AQW was more important and he gave the torch to Warlic
Now Warlic Left and gave His torch to Korin ( with Mae )

Who's to say that Artix doesn't say that They have to go help with the new game??
If MQ Dies, I want 27 k worth of Unused Ng's refund but I hope It doesn't... It just needs MORE people and less People stealing their Artists etc

Ah, at least someone has looked at it critically and seen the light, congrats, andy.

This topic came up before, and, essentially, in terms of full time staff, MQ has two: Mae, who volunteers full time, and Korin, who (I think) works fulltime. Everyone else who is on the MQ team does it part time, or as an aside.
The true problem appeared when Warlic left. Now, of course, it wasn't necessarily going to be a problem, had AE replaced him with another, fulltime MQ programmer. As you can probably guess and have noticed, that did not happen. Koring was promoted to HEad of MQ... and that's it. No additional programmers or resources were added to the MQ team as far as we know. (If that is incorrect, please correct me). I think that, when the most experienced programmer on a project is pulled away, and not replaced by someone of equal caliber... it is pretty easy to tell that AE doesn't really care about MQ. Or, if AE does, MQ is as low as it gets on their priority list.

Now, where exactly do you think they're going to get programmers for the new game? Game designers don't grow on trees, and since AE is clearly unwilling to hire more people to help out with understaffed projects such as MQ, I think the chances of a whole new team being hired for the SuperHero MM are slim as chances get. Since the only other place AE can get staff is already-created games, I'm guessing MQ will continue to hemorrhage it's best and brightest into the MMO's, until AE pushes enough players to quit that Artix will declare the game "so unpopular that is unwise to continue it", and transfer the rest of the staff over to AQW and the SH MMO.

I paint a bleak and paranoid picture, sorry.

Meh, AE doesn't care about MechQuest.
They just say "Hey you you need to come work on a different game and abandon MechQuest"
MQ is the most fun AE game because all weapons have different animations unlike in AQW when they have only have slash and stab.
Stop taking programmers from a giant robot game with huge explosions...

You're putting me out of a job here, mate. D= (Joke)

I do hope that Mechquest will stick around for a while...it's the only real AE game with some moderate form of PvP (build vs build, even if the AI is useless, is fun)...
The problem, I think, is that MMOs are more...shall we say...profietable...given that monthly fees *must* be paid for the exclusive content...which people like. People like shiny things...

The future might look dark now, but once the staff takes care of the beginning levels, it'll probably do alright...I hope... >_>

@astro999 There are at least seven Clyde's input makes eleven... people who do MQ stuff "full-time" and don't do any other AE games.

I know of Korin, Maegwyn, Vivi, Azami, blues, Lyris, Jemini, Vergen Von...Something, Minar, sometimes Arklen, Rolith, and Khelios and Charfade, and there are probably others that I missed to.

Oh, you said "full-time" Haha my bad. :P ~Clyde
Added Rolith and Khelios :) ~Clyde

Ok..so, after reading all the posts,we agree that SCMM's should be either bi-monthly or tri-monthly right?Since lvl gap is going to be raised soon, all the staff needs to do is finish of S.O.O.N list.Do we all agree?

I,who was a big fan of MQ, has decided to quit the game and solely focus on DF. Most likely reason is because that the quest and planet maybe different, the system is repetitive. It is either rolls, kill god-knows-how-many-mecha-before-you-proceed or shoot incoming things that comes at you. To me, you seen it once, you seen it all. Storywise,it is fine but to us as the character we are playing, we lack of involvement. It's because we are just merely standing behind the other characters while they mainly do the talking, we just sit/stand and listen. In DF, our characters tend to make lame jokes and always have dialogues with other npcs, which gives us characters something called 'personality' which I never find it boring and always fresh.

Can we say MQ is still young? nope, not really. Not want to bring this up but really, where are the DF and AQ mech chassis that we were promised YEARS ago? Instead of taking time making carbon copies of SCMMs, do take the time to design and make the mech chassis that we were supposed to get. I am pretty sure nearly everyone forgot about about them, right? I am sorry if my post sounds abit blunt but I really should think I should get this out of my chest since I paid for SC membership.
