I would prefer a call for programmers but I'll apply anyway.

@ Button, Yes I'd go for it, it's likely that the application/interview process will take longer than that to complete anyway. Even if you were to turn 18 in say a month I'd apply in this uptake and be prepared to wait until you turn 18 to take up the position... Anything more than that and you may as well bide your time, as it was around 12 months ago that positions were last advertised ;)

@Depressed, it is likely with the next team that you will be one or the other... So a moderator or a tester, even some of the existing moderators will have to decide what area they will work in when the new structure is implemented, and being a moderator will not automatically mean you are a tester as well ;)

Join the video marketing team, while video making can be highly time intensive, it is rewarding as you are informing the community about all the work the development, moderation and testing team are doing and you will get to work with Charfade, Nightwraith, Practel and myself :)

Just wondering...
If I'm only 17, but will turn 18 in like 2 weeks, would I be eligible as long as I'm 18 when I sign the contract?

I'm sure you'll be fine, maybe just wait to submit your application. Good luck!

EDIT: I didn't refresh that recently I guess...

Just a quick question that may seem silly but I've spent countless nights thinking about this

Does you ranking matter? (Hero, Warlord, Commander)
The reason i ask this is that if you want to be a tester, don't you think you would need a good amount of experience to know whats going on in order to give an accurate report on balance and such?

Thanks,

Glided

@Button: As GOONY stated, you'll be fine to apply!

As a general notice to everyone, if you are 18 within the next month, please do feel free to apply, since the process will take that long (PLEASE MAKE IT CLEAR THOUGH) - any longer than that, we sadly cannot wait that long for people, you will just have to wait for the next call!

@Legion of Souls: We will look at everything to do with each persons character when we consider them, including level, rank, and battles fought!

@ Legion of Souls, the testers in the main do not report on balance. The main duties of testers is to make sure the new and existing features work as intended and they are there to make sure that game breaking bugs do not exist when the updates go live. You will need to be able to recognise issues with damage, so being able to calculate damage ranges (maths) would be a great attribute to have as a tester and have a flexible approach as sometimes you will report an issue and then have to wait for that to be rectified before you can continue to test.

There are documents where testers can give balance suggestions, but the "God of Balance" will have the final say in what is actually implemented. Testers feedback is taken into consideration so ingame experience over a period of time is something that will support your application, but that is not the major factor in being appointed as a tester. Being methodical, accurate and having good teamwork skills would be highly regarded when making an application.

@Lycus

Ahh, I got you, another real quick question. What do you think would be an appropriate rank to be considered? I don't want to make this look like a requirement but i just want to consider my chances. As, for level i suppose the cap is reccomended?

Thanks

@Legion of Souls: I think GOONY covered it pretty well in regard to the fact that, we will take it into consideration, since it will effect how well you know the battle system. However I know that a lot of people out there know the game very well without being level cap nor having high win amounts, but hang out a lot and still play the game a lot. If you display you know the game and give a great application, then that will matter just as much as the amount of wins you have, as long as you demonstrate you know the game (without going too far with that)!

Will there be a need for testers in 4 years? I wish the policy was more relaxed as I love math and I would love to contribute something(other then money that I already do for fun :) ) to the game. Good luck on your call and can not wait for the call to come around for me in a few years!

Hmm it seems I can apply this time. Could anyone be so kind as to tell me how many hours a day a mod "should" be on for? And other than patrolling the game, are there any other responsibilities for an ingame mod? Just want to know what we are getting ourselves into. Thanks. ;)

I think it's good that ED is reaching out to the community for help. At least we know they care enough to ask for it.
I'd love to help, but Mechanics and Special Relativity is destroying any time I have to do anything with my life. :/ good times.

@Above I'm fairly certain there is "office work", as in looking at reports, addressing them, etc. At least, that's what is stated in the design notes.

I think I will try and apply to be a tester,

Was wondering cause it's a bit unclear, does that also involve testing balance, and perhaps make suggestions about balance as you test?

I would love to be able to help the games balance, as it's bound to need a lot of testing with the potential of a massive amount of skill cores.

Edit:
Just read g00ny's post above answering my question.

@isaiahfish90: Recruitment calls such as this one really only occur when they're needed. There's no fixed schedule, but as volunteer staff come and go over the years and based on patterns in the past in this game and other AE games, you can probably expect (not a guarantee) a recruitment at least once every other year or so (so far it's happened in 2 consecutive years, so we'll see how it all plays out for the future.) That being said, recruitment patterns can easily change, though.

@The Joker X: Specifics on time would have to be left to someone upper in the chain to answer. Duties moderators generally have would be patrolling in-game (as you said), as well as answering reports from in-game and here on the forums through the Lawman. They'll also be testing releases occasionally if necessary. The DNs cover most of them really (other than the fact that they probably take longer to do than they sound xD).

To make it clear: Being a Tester or Moderator is a VOLUNTEER position, not a paid position. All Moderators, including myself, are volunteers, we do our job for work experience, for fun and because we enjoy helping out in a game we love. Please do not be applying thinking that this is a chance to gain some easy cash, since you will not be paid. As has already been mentioned though, many AE staff have started out as AK's, Moderators or interns of some sort and are now in full-time employment with AE, so it is a way to get in and possibly progress further in!

@Blitzex I feel your pain. I just realized when I will be old enough to send in my application I will have a complication in the form of JROTC staff work after school at least once a week and will have to be ready to stay after for staff meetings and any work that requires prompt completion
