@FoF : I think DragonLord armor is leaner than say, new Paladin armor...

I just hope that they update the eye soon, I kinda dislike those singular black eye on old armor...

Perhaps the evolved dragonlord armor makes us look rather large but the regular one certainly does not.

It's a class that can really put out some solid work on the defensive side of things so I really don't mind how big the evolved versions look. To me, it visually suits that drawn out battling style better than a more lightweight armor would.

Love it survival and great efficiency. I have fond memories of rushing to Celestia when the armor became a thing and desperately running back each time I gained a level

personally, i really love the tanky nature that dragonlord has. i've seen some complaints that it lacks any usable one-hit kill moves, but really, it doesn't NEED any, and it's not supposed to have any, anyways. it's meant to outlast opponents, not overpower them. and with a proper skill rotation, it does this almost flawlessly.

I find dragonlord to result in tedious battles. Just do a little damage and defend and defend. whereas necromancer, also considered a defensive class, has variety in its capability of defending. such as that one skill that gives you resistance to the element that last hit you, resulting in you getting healed by the enemy. now THAT feels good.

Also if you combo correctly you have one of the strongest nuking moves in the game i believe.

From my own personal experiences, I found Necromancer to be a mixed or "specialist" sort of defensive class. It's really great against things with a high damage output and I can't deny how useful both that and its nuke were but I prefer DragonLord's more well-rounded focus. DL's HP and MP healing skills also way outstrip Necro's ones too, so it can be more sustainable in most situations.

I totally understand the thrill that some people would get from blasting straight through stuff without a moment's notice, but that's not how I've grown to play DF over my 8 years. I derive more joy from taking their shots and being the last armored juggernaught standing.

These new dragon lord artefacts are nice.

Dragon's patience buff over time reminds me of ascendant in a way.

How useful does anyone think the Patience/Rage artifact would be with Pyro?

I have a full defensive build with Pyro, but Patience lowers my HP. I'm wondering if the drop would be worth it...or if there's even a point using these artifacts with classes that aren't DL?

Dragonlord is great with these artifacts. Almost makes me want to make it a whole new class in that I want both the power of dragon's rage and the tankiness that dragonlord had without it.

Too bad we can't have some skills more powerful while keeping the others unaffected. Balance of offense and defense, not giving up one for the other.

The hp cost to Dragon Soul is great. Makes the skill easily accessible. The damage boost from the shield is also great. Yes, we lose a turn of defense but it shouldn't matter. The heal I'd rather keep as it was with the 15% initial heal and 10% for a few turns. The damage reduction ability seems to be fine either way. The light, ice and fire dragon skills should be unaffected by dragon's rage. If this means Dragon Heart has to be weaker, so be it. Everything else would be fine on the class. I do like the power the Dragon's Rage artifact gives the class, but I still wish it retained its tankiness or defense.

I just dislike the fact that the multi hit for dragonlord is always the energy element unlike the multi hit of almost every other class being the same as your weapon.
Loving the new Dragon's Rage though.

@friendofafriend

remember, artifacts only impart special powers on the classes they're designed for, otherwise, they're just stat buffs. these are dragonlord artifacts, not pyromancer artifacts.

Yeah, I was talking about if people thought the stats themselves might be worth it alone.

I've been playing about with the new Dragonlord items. I must say that Rage is my favourite at the moment. It's best for simple fights, and for the boss fights that don't last.
As for Patience... eh, it's alright. I don't feel like many boss fights run long enough to warrant it's use. Maybe if the increase was 2% it would fare better?
Yeah, in my opinion that 2% rather than 1% increase per turn would be a recommended change. Otherwise I love the idea of an artifact like this! Thanks team!

I think dragon rage with the downsides to it. You could probably get away it, since you can just breeze past most enemies and bosses with dragoneye, dragon heart, dragon soul and darkness dragon spirit. Barring that it's a not difficult boss fight like doom amulet maybe (Don't take my word for it.

I wouldn't be too sure on discounting patience just yet, Condor. recently, there have been multiple bosses (Tomix, Zadd, Bradley, and calamity bosses) that would easily surpass 20 turns, which would substantially increase the damage output of the class by a fair amount. This also does not mention the fact that the class may actually be a good choice for Hard Mode boss fights, as the damage will actually exceed Dmk with none of the ridiculous mp costs. So currently, in my opinion, both artifacts can either make DL better than the current top sustainable classes (pyro, necro, exo, and paladin), or be one of the best hybrids, alongside exo and EPL.

Dragonlord ever since its revamp has always been pretty good at handling hard mode + extreme boss fights.

Probably not relevant anymore I remember before, there was talks around here in the DF forums about DL having an artifact or something to deal with enemy healing. I don't remember it clearly, like what fight/s people said that gave them trouble while using DL because of enemies's healing.

With Dragon's Rage, DL can end fights in one turn with Dragon Soul but the 20% can be a hindrance especially the Wind Dragon Spirit skill healing only 20%.
So, you have to use a shield before healing to negate damage so your HP can still be refreshed between fights.
Although, I suggest making the Wind Dragon Spirit heal 25% with increased mana cost so it can be possible to negate damage from mobs instead of using a shield which uses mana.

As for Dragon's Patience, I think reaching 100% is very slow. I'm not sure which boss can even keep up with a defensive DL.
Maybe make the passive increase damage per turn at a higher rate (probably 2%-5% not sure which is balanced to make up for speed).

The changes doesn't have anything big like Baltael's Aventail which changes animations but I would like to have some visual indication between Dragon's Rage and Dragon's Patience if it's not too much to ask.

I personally think it's fine even if you have to use shield/earth dragon and then wind dragon in order to safely heal in between mob fight, you can always shield/earth dragon and then water dragon to regain mana or use your mana potions that's what they're there for.

I'm really liking the glass cannon style that you get put in when you equip Dragon's rage.

Don't know if it was intentional or just smart on Verly's part to making Dragon's rage take up the trinket slot so you couldn't equip NSTB. I'm gonna say it was smart though, so you're forced into having to deal with the changes in your defensive skills on DL.

Yeah, I was turned off for a second when I realized I couldn't bring any trinket skills anymore, but then I started trying out the new DL. Sooooooo goooooooood. Anyway, here's the data I've gathered so far for DL's Rage. I like the change to Heart; it's still good offensively no matter when you use it, but the new mechanic feels very berserker-y:

Dragon Soul:
10% HP (bug?), 9 turn CD
7 hits of 70% damage each, 490% total

DragonEye:
30 mana, 15 turn CD
1 hit of 225% damage, guaranteed to crit for 450% total
Also some unknown amount of +BtH, maybe the same as before

Water Dragon Spirit:
0 mana, 10 turn CD
Immediately heal 30% MP, no HoT

Shield Bash:
25 mana, 13 turn CD
1 hit of 120% damage, 3 turn stun

Wind Dragon Spirit:
35 mana, 19 turn CD
Immediately heal 20% HP, no HoT

Earth Dragon Spirit:
30 mana, 24 turn CD
2 turns of 80% reduced damage, followed by 2 turns of 50% reduced damage

Darkness Dragon Spirit:
30 mana, 8 turn CD
2 turns of +140 M/P/M, 3 turns (including turn spent shielding) of +50% Boost

Attack!:
0 mana, 0 turn CD
1 hit of 130%

Dragon Bite:
0 mana, 2 turn CD
2 hits of 100% damage each, 200% total

Rush:
0 mana, 0 turn CD
3 hits of 100% damage each, 300% total

Energy Dragon Spirit:
20 mana, 0 turn CD
1 hit of 155% Energy damage to each enemy

Light Dragon Spirit:
26 mana, 7 turn CD
1 hit of 175% Light damage, 1 turn -25 Bonus blind

Frost Dragon Spirit:
30 mana, 8 turn CD
1 hit of 175% Ice damage, 1 turn of -50% Boost/Immobility

Fire Dragon Spirit:
25 mana, 6 turn CD
1 hit of 175% Fire damage, 5 turns of 40% Fire WDPT

Dragon Heart:
30 mana, 9 turn CD
4 hits of Variable% damage (100% + % of missing HP per hit), ??? total

I just wanna emphasize that the main strength of these Artifacts is that you can swap them in the middle of a quest. You wanna rip through most enemies but have a backup against surprises? Swap Rage and Patience/NSTB! Each new DL has its own strengths and weaknesses, but there's nothing dictating that you have to stick to one of them for a quest. Well, maybe the gold costs, but not mechanically speaking.

@LouisCyphere: DL's Patience does have a popup that notifies you that you're using the more defensive trinket. Nothing for Rage, but you're doing a ton more damage than you normally do.

Edit: This is outdated, please see Verly's list of changes for details.

By the way, what's NSTB again?

The good thing is that we have two artifacts for DL. One for mowing down mobs and the other is for the boss. It's perfect.

@Solanaceae:
I've been spoiled by Baltael's Aventail
Maybe Verly can add a notification for Dragon's Rage. I was kinda surprised that the damage was increased when using Rage.
Though, I still think that Patience's passive should still be changed. Probably let the passive carry over fights or make it reach 100% faster.

NSTB stands for Not-So-Tiny Bubbles, which is kind of overkill for DL honestly.

Patience could use a little buff in my opinion, though I don't want it to become too good.

I'm absolutely loving Dragon's Rage. Currently doing the Hidebehind quest (to farm for the cape), Darkness Dragon Spirit+Dragon Soul+Dragon Eye absolutely shreds the normal Hidebehind mob.
But as for the Hidebehind Boss with around 4k HP, with RDL (Raging Dragon Lord?) I managed to finish the fight with half HP and almost all skills on cooldown. Still figuring out the proper loop for it.

Haven'y yet played much with PDL (Patient Dragon Lord?) to give an opinion.

Patience per turn increase to 2% is definitely one of the changes I'm looking at. During testing, I thought the 1% felt nice enough because you could see your damage increasing over time. I didn't think it was too slow given DragonLord's defensive capabilities. You're not really meant to get to 100% a lot. Then again, even 50 turns is longer than most battles. And it does still take a good rotation to last that long.

Soul is supposed to take 10% HP- my original version took out 20% to use, and had a 1 turn cooldown, but that was too insane (You could Darkness-Soul-EYe-Soul, and that would absolutely obliterate stuff at the cost of almost half your health), so I increased the cooldown and lowered the cost to 10%. The 20% health to use is a typo.

Dragon's Rage actually changes most of the skill descriptions. I'll see about adding a notification for the just straight up damage increases though.

@Verly:
I did noticed the change in skill descriptions, I was just surprised that RDL did more damage compare to regular DL and PDL.
(I'm gonna coin RDL (DragonLord with Dragon's Rage) and PDL (DragonLord with Dragon's Patience))

Since the two artifacts are trinkets, maybe add an unusable skill which says what the artifacts do?
