And I prefer old Pyromancer because, while it didn't hit as hard as others and was elementally locked, it was unique because it focused on longevity and regeneration, and added a few DoT's and the curse for fun. Now it's been nerfed for the elemental-switching ability and lost most of it's survivability for more DoTs and damage, so it's lost a lot of it's appeal to me.
How was Pyromancer's survivability nerfed? Previously it had three defensive skills, which were basically untouched by the revamp - if anything, the blind was buffed from -40 to -75 bonus, a major buff. It also had three sources of healing: rebirth, malcifer, and warmth. New pyromancer also has three sources of healing: rebirth, healing magefire, and devouring magefire. Rebirth was buffed to purge all the debuffs you have on you, and still heals the same amount. Warmth healed you 3x weapon damage HP on 16 CD and Malcifer healed you 1x weapon damage HP on 10 cd - so at level 90 you'd get ~300 from Warmth and ~100 from Malcifer (and up to 570 and 190 with a 1-190 weapon).
Healing Magefire heals you 1% a turn for every stack of magefire you have on your enemy, while Devouring Magefire (activated by conflagrate) heals you 10% a turn. At level 90, each stack of Healing Magefire is ~30 HP every turn, so with 5 stacks you're looking at ~150 HP every turn, just by putting a DoT on the enemy. Meanwhile, Devouring Magefire heals ~300 a turn for 5 turns every 20 turns. So the survivability of Pyromancer was in fact greatly improved with the changes.
That being said, Pyromancer has become way less intuitive to use as a result, and I wish there was an ingame tutorial on how to use it.
I am obviously not a min-max player, all my stats are equal and I don't have all the best artifacts. I also rarely leave my comfort zone, and have only regularly played Deathknight, Doomknight Guardian, Pyromancer, Avatar of Time, and recently Dragonlord. So maybe that's why I'm not beating this with DoomKnight.
Ah. You'll probably do a lot better if you put all your stats into one main stat and END, then.
However, I did no that major revamps have been done to Ranger, the Ataelan classes, and the Dragon base classes, so I wan't sure if there was a new go-to survivability/healing class after what they did to Pyro. I hear Chaosweaver's good for it?
Pyromancer is still probably the premier tank class, mainly because it's a tank that has massive burst damage half the time (in exchange for having to click the DoT skill the other half to the time).
If you want a pure tank playstyle, Paladin is still the premier heal tank, Ancient Exosuit is the heal tank for DCs, and Cryptic and Pirate are both excellent "don't get hit" tanks.
Chaosweaver is the pure opposite of a tank - it's a glass cannon, where you give up defenses in exchange for massive damage.
