Legendary Ash -> RE: Spells - Read the first post! (8/18/2019 19:33:50)

Taken from Furious Trobble GBI
quote:

Like the Eye of Naab, Furious Trobble suffers from BtH that only affects pet and guest on the first turn as its applied to the player after the spell's hits connect, which is after the player's turn.
An incorrect balance equation would be 17*6*5*1.4/(4.25*2) = -71.4% penalty
Another incorrect balance equation would be 17*5*5*1.4/(4.25*2) = -59.5% penalty currently used by Devs
Extra work to correctly balance the equation, player dmg that includes skill is worth 1.2 and pet is .2 for a player side total of 1.4:
17*5*1.4*.85(5*1.2+6*.2)/(1.4*4.25*2) = -61.2% penalty

Can toggle between two modes:

DEFIANT
Costs the listed MP/turn. You heal MP equal to [outgoing weapon damage]*[90-2X]%*[MPMult], where X is the number of hits that connected, multiplied by *(0.5 + 0.5*CHA/VStat) to a max of *1.1. This is multiplied by the Dunamis outlevelling penalty without a buffer, and damage from Magic weapons is multiplied by *4/3 to bring it in line.

Also, you store the +X, and the next time you cast a spell you spend all the X and gain +[stored boost] % damage. So if you deal 10 weapon hits and then cast a spell, then the spell gains +10% damage. This boost is saved between battles, but is lost if you switch modes.

RAMPANT
Costs the listed SP/turn. Functions like Dunamis: You gain +27% to Melee and Ranged damage from your weapons and spells, multiplied by *(0.5 + 0.5*CHA/VStat) to a max of *1.1, modified by Dun's outlevelling formula with no buffer.

Also, you gain a Backlash-like effect. Any time you take damage from a monster attack the monster takes damage equal to (damage inflicted*0.386) as Harm damage. The monster can resist with a save at a +0 bonus (inflict with CHA/LUK, resist with CHA/LUK). This doesn't trigger on type "other" attacks or on certain special monster attacks (e.g. insta-kills).

Taken from Essence of Carnage GBI
quote:

DEFIANT
Guestmeleeworth*2*MpHealed - MpMult*.9(Neutral Armor +Melee/Ranged weapon+200 Mainstat no Luk because its a Guest)/MpUpkeep
.6(2*206 - 1.31333*.9(5.59*32+11.098*12.5))/114 = -19.2588% cost penalty
1.31333*.02(5.59*32+11.098*12.5)/(653/1.25) = 1.5969%/2% = 100-79.846% = -20.153% damage penalty
Here spell damage and cost is balanced with *.8 damage and *1.2 cost.

RAMPANT
The 39.6% Backlash takes a *.5 due to monster damage being half of player output damage and +27% Melee/Ranged damage boost adds up to be 36.65%/63% for an MC guest equates to .581746, approximately an omni element *.6 penalty only to damage, however the Sp upkeep is 129/86 = 1.5 which is .1 more than an omni element *1.4 penalty only to cost.
Total omni penalty is 1-.581746 = .418254+1.5-1 = -.91825, unlike Dunamis/Thernda/Poelala which only have a -.4 damage penalty.

The correct Sp cost should be the standard Sp Guest upkeep if the *.6 penalty should apply only to boost and backlash like Dunamis/Thernda/Poelala, or split to have MC Guest .63*.8 damage = 50.4% melee be distributed to the Melee/Ranged boost and Backlash/.5 as monster damage is half of players' and have a *1.2 upkeep cost.
I recommend having the Backlash stay as .386 and put the rest of the points to a 50.4 - .386*.5 = 31.1% Melee/Ranged damage boost.

Essentially an Earth clone of Spectral Chains from Frostval 2018. Quick-cast spell, only usable once per battle. Has the base damage of a normal spell (so any damage boosters will work on it same as they do a regular spell), but takes a -37.5% (75% Melee) penalty due to not taking a turn. MC effect mitigates 5% (10% Melee) of the penalty, so it's actually a -32.5% damage penalty. Nothing unusual otherwise.

From Frostval '19 part 2: Vidrir's Judgement. Kam says:

MC Energy spell. Has a 2/3 random lean, and pays HP to auto-hit. You're paying HP as though you were dealing *0.65 damage, since that's what the normal penalty for auto-hit on Melee/Magic stuff. So you pay (0.35/0.65) = 0.538461538 = 53.84% Melee, this applies to a spell, which is 200% Melee base, so *2, so 1.07692308 = ~107.69% Melee. MC effect is that if the foe is currently afflicted with Burn, the spell does +10% damage.

May I ask for clarification on the (0.35/0.65) thing? According to the Sizzler Splosion entry, a spell autohit is worth 70% melee (35% miss rate * 2 for spell damage). Why does Judgement's autohit cost so much more?

New GGB spell: Epoch Slice. Kam says:

Magic Energy spell, neutral BtH and base/random lean, overcharged, so *4/3 MP cost and deals *29/24 damage. MC effect is that it pays MC and 20% spell damage (so 10% Melee in MC, and 40% Melee from the spell damage = 50% Melee total) to attempt EleVuln on the foe. 50% Melee on a 50% save doubles to 100% Melee potency. Spell hits 5 times, so have the EleVuln make the foe take +(100/0.85/5/1.4 = ~16.81)% Energy damage for <Hits> turns. This inflicts with INT/LUK on a 50% save, mob resists with END/LUK.

Quick-cast spell/skill. 5% Melee is worth +3 MRM, so +30 MRM is worth 50% Melee, this is non elemental so it'll get *0.8 potency and *1.2 cost, so making it baseline +(30/0.8 = 37.5) MRM, for 62.5% Melee (making it this way so it gives +30 MRM in game, in reference to the Konami code giving 30 lives). Two turns makes it valued at 125% Melee. Now with *0.8 potency and *1.2 cost, it gets adjusted to +30 MRM and costs 150% Melee. MC effect brings this down to 145% Melee. Similar to the New Year spell/skill, this comes in INT/MP and DEX/SP varieties. The boost is multiplied by (0.5 + 0.5*[INT|DEX]) plus the usual outlevelling penalty (without any buffer).

Hiding For Dummies

Earth skill, 0.25 base lean and neutral BtH lean, does 2 hits. Is an overcharged skill, so costs (100*4/3)% Melee in SP and deals (200*29/24)% damage. It pays MC and 20% of what would be normal spell damage (MC worth 10% Melee, 20% spell cost worth 40% Melee, so 50% Melee total) to attempt a (Hits*2) turn -(21*MobEarthRes) BtH Blind on the foe, 50% save, inflicts with STR/LUK vs mob's INT/LUK.

Runic Binding

MC Harm spell/skill. Is overcharged, so costs (100*4/3)% Melee in SP for the skill and (125*4/3)% Melee in MP for the spell, both deal (200*29/24)% Melee for their base damage. From there, the spell/skill loses -10% damage due to being Harm and thus being always useful, MC effect is mitigating 5% of this penalty, for a total of -5% damage. A further 44% Melee is paid to give the player 4 turns of +10% EleEmpow (only affects player attacks), and another 44% Melee is paid (for total of 88% Melee, this is done because the EleVuln/Empow effects are also always useful, so they charge 10% more) to attempt to inflict +(20/1.4/0.85 = 16.8)% Damage Taken EleVuln on the foe for <Hits> turns, does 4 hits. The EleVuln/Empow both affect all elements, the EleVuln has a 50% save, inflicts with player INT/LUK vs mob INT/LUK for the spell, and player (Higher of STR or DEX)/LUK vs mob INT/LUK for the skill. Skill checks your weapon to determine if it should do Melee or Ranged damage (defaults to Ranged if using a Magic weapon), spell does Magic damage.

Edit: Updated to fix errors in initial sub.

Absolute Darkness

Dark spell/skill. Neutral base/random and BtH leans. Is overcharged, so has x4/3 SP/MP costs, and deals x29/24 damage compared to other spells (so does a base of 241.66..% Melee instead of 200% Melee), does three hits. First few frames of the spell pays MC (10% Melee) and another 40% Melee to give the player a x1.25 Darkness Empowerment status for two turns. In other words you buff your outgoing Darkness damage by x1.25, including the turn this spell is used. It then pays another 50% Melee to attempt a -(20*MobDarkRes*Hits/10/0.85) BtH Blind for the rest of the battle, inflict with INT/LUK for the spell, (STR/DEX/INT depending on if using a Melee/Ranged/Magic weapon)/LUK for the skill, mob resists with INT/LUK, 50% save. 50% Melee is worth 30 BtH loss, is doubled due to a 50% save, so if all hits connect you get a total of 60 BtH loss, effects that last the whole battle are valued as lasting 10 turns, so in general it'll inflict a -(3.53*MobDarkRes*Hits) -(7.06*MobDarkRes*Hits/3) Blind for the rest of the battle. If the Blind is successful, then there is a background transition, similar to the FSB skills from various Champion of X sets.

MC Earth spell, basically is a clone of the weapons. Neutral accuracy/damage leans. Pays normal spell cost and 15% Melee in HP cost to deal +7.5% spell damage. MC effect is that the spell deals +10% damage and seeks Earth/Wind vs petrified foes. This counts even if 0 turns is remaining on the status, they just have to have it active.

Unraveling Nightmare

MC Fire spell/skill. Is overcharged, so x4/3 MP and SP costs to deal x29/24 damage, also has 15% Melee in HP cost to deal +7.5% spell damage. Gimmick with this spell is that you actually consume the first use of it to charge it up and the second use to cast it properly. When doing the charge turn, you'll pay the MP/HP for the spell and SP/HP for the skill as per normal, and inflict yourself with a -9 MRM DefLoss for 2 turns. The second turn, you actually cast the spell/skill, and the following gets applied. The spell's/skill's base damage is now x29/24 of normal spell damage as with all overcharged spells, it gets +10% damage due to the two turns of +5% damage MC, it then gets +1% damage due to the minimum 1-turn delay, another +100% damage due to it consuming a turn and the MP or SP cost, +15% damage due to the two turns of HP cost, and finally the two turns of -9 MRM DefLoss are worth 30% Melee, so another +15% damage for that. So in total you get +10%, +1%, +100%, +15%, and another +15%, for a total of +141% damage.
