 Since we have gold storage chests this year - can we get a confirmation on whether there will be convenience options for those of us who are going to donate in larger quantities than usual? It would be very nice if we did anyways.

Hollow did promise anyways he’d look at this as a possibility

There's something of a risk of losing a significant portion of the gold donated for you. If max donation amount is increased to 500 mil, and you gain 5 donations, you just lose 1.3 billion gold after the first fight.

It would only work if max gold cap was temporarily raised as well, and I don't know how much extra work that would be for the devs.

I just kind of think on the gold contest, make the rewards based on top idk..25 or 50 donators. For tokens, there should just be a top end cap and if you donated that much, you get the top prize plus the ones on the tiers below. This may result in less tokens donated, and bought, overall, but more players I think win that way, and this shouldn't just be about the company making money off token buying in order to donate to make the top X number of donators to get something.

I know there's been a lot of "controversy" in past donation systems and all that, but the solutions should be player-focused whatever that ultimately looks like.

 ^^ gold donations are always top 25 for the top tier. Only the Summer contest was top 15, and Hollow says that will become top 25 next year as well.

I’m personally in favor of getting rid of the ranked system altogether in favor of an alternative scheme. It’s well known that the ranked system has a chilling effect that prevents the greatest level of participation.



@primate murder: My idea for this was to increase it to something like 500m or 1b, but in the background this gets divided by 100m. So with that 500m example, it would find 5 randoms and give each of them 100m. And 10 players 100m for the 1b option. That should fix or limit the overflow issue.

I wouldnt mind donating tokens to get the top prize, but I'm not about to donate in a donation war only to "lose" and be down thousands of tokens for nothing to show for it. It makes one not want to participate *at all* unless one seems to think donating your money (tokens) to other players makes your heart feel good. I'm not in that group, and likely most players arn't either.

So if there was a 10k token cap, (random example) that if you donated say in a tiered system:

Any donation- Face (weak, but whatever)

1k-Misc

5k-Shield

7.5k-Weapon

10k-Armor

Something like that...I'd maybe donate 10k.

If it was top *anything* get the armor, in a contest for who donates the most, I'm not even gonna TRY to win. Waste of tokens.

PD - Gold storage chests? Really? How can you get one? I had not heard of this yet, and don't see it in the encyclopedia, so I thought I would ask. Thank you.

 You buy these at the Guardian Tower. Each of them costs 1.2b gold, sellable for 1b gold, and you have to be level 150. They were made on a suggestion to allow storing gold easier since beforehand it was really cumbersome. Most of the serious gold donors have multiples of these in both their vaults and their alternate characters. A lot of players will be cashing these in for the purposes of the contest.

Also concur with Broccoli - Please give us a Ballywho shop for BOTH the token AND gold contests. The desperation of filling in multiple slots for multiple characters will be headed off if we are allowed to access these items at a later point in time.

Any player that login in during the 2 weeks prior to player x donate y gold at time z are eligible to win one share of y gold.

Donation idea
Player earn one ticket when player donate 100000 gold. 5 tickets are drawn at end of donation contest. Each winning ticket shall grant owner top tier prize. Top 25 players (players who did not hold winning ticket) also win top tier prize.

 It looks like the release is live, and on a Wednesday. Shall have longer thoughts later.

Hopefully the staff still has enough time to make major necessary improvements for the contests. At least we ought to hope so…

EDIT: Saw the misc is top 150. That is REALLY disconcerting. The contests will be an unmitigated disaster if there are no shops and no checks for alt characters filling ranked spots. With the change with gold storage, it will be even more difficult to place in the rankings. With the only reward being faces, there is even less reason to participate unless you were preparing for the event months in advance.



Okay, now I can play the release. Everything that is wrong with the contest:

1. The portal to the Donation contest is on the bottom right. This is un-intuitive to check since all the new releases are on the billboard.
2. There is an in-ordinate cooldown to donate gold. It takes 5 minutes in between donations. If I had 1.2b gold, I would require over an hour to donate all my gold.
3. Donating takes you back to the hometown. This interrupts the flow completely and makes it repetitive and difficult to donate.
4. Every time you want to donate you have to go through unskippable dialogue which only serves to delay you.
5. The donation buttons are clunky as hell with no easy way to validate. I almost thought 100,000,000 was 10,000,000 because there's literally no commas.
6. There are no confirmed shops and players are already filling multiple slots with their alts and thus making it harder for others to win prizes. The fact that only the faces are un-ranked rewards means there's less for everyone. More chilling effects.
7. You can only donate 100,000,000 at max at a time which is extremely cumbersome for those of us who have been stockpiling gold storage chests throughout the year. With the cooldowns and unskippable dialogue this is extremely un-fun to deal with.

I know for sure I wont be donating z tokens unless I see I have a shot at winning...at the last minute.

I may donate a bit of gold here and there, but again I will not attempt at gaining any of the prize items until I see at the end, however, by that time it for sure will be unobtainable.

This is why there has to be tiers. Anyone donating X gold+ or X tokens+ gain the top items, on down. I honestly think this is a way for the company to make some money, tbh, and nothing more. I'm fine if it means longevity for the game, but I kind of think there has to be a middle ground.

At the end of the day, let's see how this plays out and go from there.

I, for one, very much appreciate them allowing for more people to access the rewards. It's a season of donating, after all. Plus there doesn't look like an armor is included this time, which is cool for less power struggle. Contest ends 1/31.

Oooh, looks like the frostval set is Water this year, weapons can make enemy panic but deals less damage. Fae-touched Knight sounds amazing, can't wait to see the rest. Wonder what element the giftboxen is gonna turn out to be. Maybe Ice? Or Darkness?

 ^^ The lists update every 30 minutes or so.

Also to the staff, can we have access the previous years' donation results? The homepage updates while the website looks nicer, has gotten rid of our ability to see things from the past, like past donation contest results. The only way someone is going to be able to access this year's results next year is if someone just HAPPENS to get a snapshot for wayback machine.

EDIT: I'm going to be doing daily snapshots of the each of the contests and archiving them. I suspect like the last contest we'll observe a valley effect / tapering once again. Doing this will provide concrete proof that either the contests need to be shortened or the distribution system needs to change.

EDIT2: After looking over my posts again, I have worded my posts to be less confrontational, and my emotions got the better of me. Real criticism deserves to be worded more fairly. For those of you who did catch my anger, I apologize if it was oft-putting. Or if you got a rise out of it, you can have it forever as one of many memorable AQ moments that are out there to remember.



Other notes:

1. Donating cooldown seems to have a much shorter cooldown than 5 minutes. [b]I've consistently been able to donate with a wait time of 1 minute. However this is still extremely slow and the max rate one could expect to donate with perfect timing is 6b/hour which for those who have way more than that, is extremely cumbersome to deal with.
2. Donating other amounts has lowered cooldown as well.

3. For those of us who are saying that the Gold Contest isn't as Pay To Win as the Token contest is. This is fair, but there's *definitely* factors that make it much easier for you to pay your way to victory in a Gold Contest:

  • X-Boosts, Spirits of X and Hidden Power of Gold all increase your daily gold caps. All of these are only obtainable by paying money into the game. The later you can get for free with a common GGB from a Guardianship, but you bought Guardianship so it's still a premium thing. Or you paid at least 250 Z-tokens for it, which isn't easy to earn without paying.
  • Stuffing Gold Storage Chests requires purchasing inventory / vault space. Which costs Z-tokens. Which costs real money if you don't earn your tokens. Added up these aren't cheap. It is possible with many accounts to earn a significant amount of tokens without paying money, but it is much harder to do.
  • Addendum point to the above: Alt-Guardians get double the earnable tokens per day. Guardianship of course costs money.
  • Vaults cost Z-tokens.
  • Z-tokens give you access to farming spots like Void Paintings (Alpha Weredragon, Zardnado, Caecus, FruitCakeZard, etc) and specific housing ID's which have farmable mobs.

    Of course, if you are diligent about playing AQ, then it's possible to overcome all these hurdles and advantages that you *can* pay for to get an advantage. But we shouldn't pretend that the Gold Contest doesn't have elements which make it *way* easier for paying players to win spots for. I will say overall though the Gold Contest is less problematic for AQ in the long run than the Token contests are. A mal-distribution of gold isn't nearly as awful for the game as the same for Tokens.

And I, for one would rather enjoy what you give the community of players than have you respond to every post. I know the number of folk working on this are limited, and so is their time.     		The new Frostval quest set weapons seem nice, but I have a question: were their forms mixed up, or are they supposed to be in the current arrangement? The big sword is Ranged, the spear is Magic, and the Mace is Melee. I'm okay with them staying how they are, but this seems like a curious choice.

    		 Well, I ought to have hoped by now the staff would have come out by now with a few improvements for the donation contest. At least increments of 200m would have been much more improved over what I can only describe as torture. I and the other donators really hope something comes out.

    The problem being one QOL update needs to be accompanied by another. Gold storage chests without the means to distribute them with that same ease of storing is making a lot of us rethink participation going forward.
