You guys, it's obviously darkness

Lord Ferno -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/2/2014 19:58:29)

It really doesn't bother me about how many light locked skills there are. All I know is that the new pally probably will stand out to be unique and have its own useful tricks of its own once finished.

Sakurai the Cursed -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/3/2014 12:25:19)

quote:

B. Some of the animations are flashes of light. They wouldn't be doing darkness damage. I'm not going to break the thematic's of the class because it's not "perfect" everywhere or to everyone to be doing light locked damage. If you were just swinging your weapon I wouldn't lock it. If you summoning bright flashes of LIGHT MAGIC to damage your enemy I'm not going to let you deal anything but light with it.

I think many people would agree with this (I personally do!), but then, what about Pyro? It can do, for example, Water or Ice damage with its fiery bursts of fire. Are DC classes less restricted by the more thematic considerations in order to give them more utility, or was it simply something you weren't a part of? And to clarify, I ask only because I'm curious, not to try and change anything. :P

Ash -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/3/2014 12:52:44)

Probably because they didn't think locking it would be good if I had to guess. It worked for Kathool so I'm not sure. I wasn't the one who made it so I can't speak on the exact reason but if I had designed it it would have been completely fire locked as you obviously shouldn't be doing water damage with a bolt of fire. There are obviously Ele locked DC classes like Kathool and IBR but I can't go back and Ele lock it now, with proper Ele comp for being locked, without asking every single person who bought it or offering to give a full refund. *shrugs*

If I design something and the animation is a burst of fire or a wave of water it'll be element locked except in very specific circumstances. (Or if it's a joke class like ECCA because WAVE OF MILK!!! :P) Most often a trigger class, like DSlayer, will be able to get around it but you'd do either *insert element* most of the time and *replaced element* whenever you fight something that does the trigger. It wouldn't seek to your weapon.

Sakurai the Cursed -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/3/2014 13:00:40)

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive answer! I really like what you're doing with the classes, DF hasn't had me this interested in a long time (though Tomix also has a hand in that :p). Can't wait to see what Pally and the rest are like.

(also omg we need milk element now D:)

Lord Ferno -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/3/2014 19:25:22)

I can say that the classes side of things in the game is in good hands!

Paladin Warrior -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:10:51)

New Paladin up for testing! Seems to be still largely offensive, and I'm pretty stunned by its firepower. I like it, first impression. Especially the light heavy-hitters in tandem with the dropping light resist by a startling 35%.

Ash -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:19:16)

Wait till you use Prism on an undead.

RamDF -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:27:13)

Woah a bit of tinkering here and there and the class feels fantastic! Great upgrade and it now feels complementary to Necro. Can't wait for Deathknight!

crabpeople -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:27:42)

This class deals damage... Gotta test it on boss fights but i'm busy with the pirate thingy.
I noticed that the spear deals pierce damage. Is there any other attack type locked skill?

kartron -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:28:32)

dat passive [8D] , it's pretty powerful and useful on the left side now :D

Mordred -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:34:59)

A very well put together class. Now I wanna be greedy and ask for the new art. :P

So, how does the heal work? Because with my ~2100 HP, it starts at 7 and goes up by 3 per turn, which isn't that great compared to the DoT passive of Necromancer.

The Hollow Soul -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:40:52)

Paladin did great against Impossible Doom crawler, so the power is there. [:)]

Ash -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/19/2014 23:41:13)

Passive heal = ((max HP)*(Pally Charge*.015)*.1)

You gain 1 charge per skill just like Necro. Caps at the same amount as Necro.

Healing is worth far more than DPS. You have 3 heals on the class plus a mana regen (which a tier 2 isn't supposed to have if it has an HP heal). Your normal damage, your triggered damage, the ele comp on the locked skills, and the passive, is lower because of those.

Mordred -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 0:37:07)

@Ash: Makes sense to me.

Food4thought -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 1:07:20)

I find the way the character says the amount healed after using Bless a bit distracting, is it possible to change how the heal from bless is indicated?

Ash -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 1:18:05)

That was the least intrusive way we found in testing but I can try and figure something out.

Food4thought -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 1:37:11)

Thank you and good job on the reworks Ash!

Greldracion -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 1:57:26)

Heya all, I haven't posted for a little but i think i might start posting more. On topic now, I think the armor works great now, though I do have qualms about tne sheer damage of prism, aura, and then wrath. With the firepower this thing is packing along with the heals, it seems almost a little too close to tier three to have this damage output.

Alpha Centipede -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 2:00:31)

The revamped Pally is really showing us what its worth now. I think it's great that we don't have half the skills based on chance and the other half being light-locked anymore.
Kudos to Ash for balancing the armor so well. Now I'm looking forward to Deathknight. :D

ShimmerSoul -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 2:25:30)

Woah. Just...holy deep-fried sneevil toenails. I am blown away. Just tested it out on various Necropolis bosses. I had to switch to hard mode just to make the poor things last long enough. With the Buff+dark resist and Prism together, I don't think I ever dealt under 900 damage per turn. Against undead, this thing is a monster. Against normal enemies, it's still a monster.

Offensive power: 10/10. Is this really tier 2? With no buffs on flat resistance, its damage is very high. With buffs applied, it's a beast. On undead with buffs applied, it's on the level of Riftwalker or maybe even beyond that.

Defensive power: 9/10. Even though it's clearly offense-focused, its defense is actually still pretty good. Am I correct in assuming that the stun always applies? I missed with it a couple of times and the stun went through anyway. o.e Standard defensive skill gives no magic resist, so that's kind of a bummer, but most monsters use Melee anyway. That's without even mentioning all that healing to both HP and MP, including an HP healing PASSIVE. :O

Overall: 9.5/10 Amazing. It almost feels too strong, but if it's acceptable by DF's new standards, I'm not gonna complain too much. :p

Deviance -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 2:58:04)

I love it Ash ^^ I knew Paladin was destined for great things, and this makes the class so much more useable and reliable. Thank you Thank you Thank You <3 This is definately going to be my go-to class when the art and class officially comes out.

WHITE DRAGON MAGE -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 4:14:12)

Love the new skills, definitely the ultimate undead hunter, but I don't think I like the spear move being locked into piercing type damage, most people focus their offence into the damage type of their chosen base class which means for mages and warriors this skill will be ineffective. Oh and will new animations for the paladin come with the new artwork? And what's the status on the new paladin weapons?

Paladin Warrior -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 5:03:43)

New animations were never part of the plan. Though there is one for healing skills, there certainly won't be any more.

After more playing time, I'm in love with the new Paladin. Probably my favorite revamp yet, the way the skills fit together. In a fight against hard mode impossible doomcrawler, I established some great rhythms but also got to think on my feet, and it ended in a win.

vulkan -> RE: =DF= Paladin Armor Discussion Thread (9/20/2014 5:37:49)

huh...i hope they change the armors look. Ive always thought that it looks ridiculous, and looks like a knight, not a paladin.
