I thought <he/she/they>'d be taller. <Character>: Um. Hello! We're here to speak with King Alteon. <Character>: But... security seems more strict than usual. What's going on? Amiable Knight: Ah, yes, well, you know, with the elemental attacks recently... Amiable Knight: Knights have been deployed to the most problematic areas, and so... Amiable Knight: ... in case anything gets any funny ideas. Sturdy Knight: Can't be too careful, after all. <Character>: I see. Well, this is Nirios, one the Ateala, as you've noticed. Sturdy Knight: He's floatin'. Nirios: ... Sturdy Knight: Er, right, since you're with <Character> and <his/her/their> dragon, I'm sure it's okay to let you in. Amiable Knight: Welcome to Swordhaven! *You, your dragon, and Nirios meet with King Alteon in Swordhaven Castle.* King Alteon: Welcome, <Character>! And, <Dragon>, it's good to see you again so soon! <Dragon>: Hello! | *Relatively polite growl!* King Alteon: I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting your Atealan companion, however? <Character>: Thank you, Your Majesty. I apologize for calling so late this evening. <Character>: This is Nirios, Unael of the Ateala, and brother to Etaos, who you met before with <Dragon>. *Nirios nods back at King Alteon.* Nirios: Greetings, King Alteon. King Alteon: Welcome to Swordhaven, Unael Nirios. I only wish I could welcome your people in more hospitable times. King Alteon: With the elemental attacks on the rise, and the threat of Wargoth on the horizon, I'm afraid you've caught the Kingdom on edge. <Character>: That's actually what we're here to discuss, Your Majesty. <Character>: We're on the trail of Warlic, and we found a clue that led us to Swordhaven. Has there been any sign of him? King Alteon: Hmm. The Blue Mage? Captain, have your knights reported seeing him in the city? Knight Captain: I'm afraid not, Your Majesty. King Alteon: The knights have been keeping an eye out for any magic inside the city, you see, especially with the recent elemental disturbances. King Alteon: But if they haven't noticed anything... I'm sorry, <Character>. <Character>: It's okay. It was a bit of a long shot, anyway. <Character>: Still, about the elemental attacks; it sounds like things are escalating? King Alteon: They are, unfortunately. And if Warlic is missing, that does not bode well. <Character>: Is there anything we can do to help? King Alteon: Haha! Ever the hero! King Alteon: My knights have so far proven capable of handling the minor skirmishes that have popped up around the kingdom. King Alteon: As such, we do not necessarily require a hero's touch at the moment. King Alteon: However, should the situation take a turn for the worse, may we count on you to come to our aid? <Character>: Of course, Your Majesty. <Character>: Between Wargoth and the elementals, the sooner we can deal with one, the sooner we'll be able to concentrate our efforts on the other. <Dragon>: Yeah! You can count on us! | *Prideful roar!* King Alteon: In the meantime, it's growing quite late. I insist, please, at least stay the night in the castle and enjoy your visit in the morning! Nirios: That is very kind of you to offer, Your Majesty, but as an Ateala, the sun— King Alteon: Don't worry, Nirios! I'm well aware of the Atealan aversion to sunlight. Some protection will be provided. King Alteon: As such a distinguished visitor, I would simply like you to see our grand city alive and vibrant, and not asleep, as it were. Nirios: ...If you insist. King Alteon: Haha! I do! King Alteon: It was a pleasure to meet you, Unael Nirios. And <Character>, <Dragon>, you are always welcome in Swordhaven. King Alteon: I bid you a good evening and night. <Character>: Good evening, Your Majesty. <Dragon>: Ahem! | *Hungry attention-seeking grumble* King Alteon: Oh, how could I forget, of course, some leftover roasts will be delivered to your chamber later for <Dragon>! <Character>: You're spoiled, <Dragon>. <Dragon>: I'm a growing dragon! | *Indignant growl* *The next morning, you, your dragon, and Nirios are in Swordhaven's market; due to Atealans' aversion to the sun, Nirios uses a parasol to cover himself from the sun; you order bread from a baker for yourself, your dragon, and Nirios.* <Character>: I'll take 2— no, 4 loaves of bread, please! Kind Baker: 4 loaves, coming right up! I'll even throw in an extra one, free, for your tog! <Dragon>: Really?! | *Incredulous hiss* <Character>: Thank you so much, that's very generous of you. Kind Baker: Of course! Having a hero like yourself visiting my humble stall, it's the least I could do! Nirios: ...There are so many people here... <Character>: Are you okay, Nirios? Nirios: I... It reminds me of home. Before Wargoth's attack. Nirios: Somorah had many cities across its plains and deserts. Each with their own cultures and peoples. Nirios: All of them beautiful. All of them, gone, now. *There is a brief pause after you hear Nirios' nostalgia of Somorah.* <Character>: I'm sorry, Nirios. I didn't think about how painful this might be for you. Nirios: I am not Alz'ein. I am not my brother. I do not... give in to impulse or emotion. Nirios: But... seeing the people here, living their lives in peace and comfort... Nirios: I feel hate. A rage, blinding like the stars in the sky. Nirios: Not for you, lest you misunderstand. Nirios: Wargoth must be destroyed. For all he has taken from the Ateala. From me! *Knowing Nirios' hatred of Wargoth, you decided to take a break.* <Character>: We can take a break, I'll find an inn. Nirios: I will be fine. As long as we— *Suddenly, Nirios becomes alarmed as he detects something; he turns around.* <Character>: What is it? What's wrong? Nirios: Someone's watching us. There! *Nirios looks right as he sees a blonde haired man with fire marks; the blonde man runs away from a crowd; this causes you to realize that the blonde man is none other than Konnan.* <Character>: Was that—? <Character>: That was Konnan wasn't it? What's he doing here? <Dragon>: There's one way to find out! Let's go after him! | *Eager growl* <Character>: You're right, <Dragon>! Come on, Nirios! Nirios: What? Who? I do not— I— Okay. *You chase Konnan throughout Swordhaven; eventually, you chase Konnan in a burnt house at Swordhaven's Residential District; upon entering inside, you evade various traps and fight a ballista; moments before defeating the ballista, Konnan—using a mechanical staff—looks for something amidst the rubble of the burnt house.* Konnan: It has to be here somewhere... <Character>: Konnan! *Konnan, now annoyed, glares at you.* Konnan: ...I hate to return empty handed, but I'm not dealing with the likes of you. Not here and now. *Konnan runs away.* Nirios: Stop! *Nirios casts spectral chains at Konnan; however, in a critical moment, Konnan activates a technological shield, negating Nirios' chains; this causes Konnan to run away from the burnt house successfully.* Nirios: It can't be—! *You, your dragon, and Nirios exit the burnt house, however, Konnan is nowhere to be found.* <Character>: No sign of him... <Dragon>: Looks like Konnan has some new tricks. | *Curious grumble* Nirios: This Konnan. Who is he to you? <Character>: He... It's a long story. <Character>: But he did terrible things in the name of revenge. He didn't have powers or weapons like that before, though. Nirios: He is a villain, then? Curious... Nirios: Because it so happens that technology is familiar to me. I've seen it before, on Somorah. Nirios: Wielded by none other than The Professor. <Character>: How can that be possible? You don't think Konnan did something to him, do you? Nirios: I cannot say. You know this Konnan person better than I. <Character>: Whatever his connection to the Professor is, he's another lead to follow, at least. <Character>: I'll ask around and see if anyone knows where he went, or where he came from. *Sometime later, in the Plaza section, you report to Nirios on what you've learned from the Swordhaven Knights in search of Konnan.* <Character>: According to the knights, someone matching Konnan's description was recently seen along the east road. <Character>: I'll travel that way, through Oaklore and Falconreach, and see if I can find his trail, or the Professor's. <Character>: What's next for you, Nirios? You're welcome to join me if you'd like. Nirios: I gave it some thought. I've decided to stay here in Swordhaven for a while and teach the knights about Wargoth and his forces. Nirios: They'll need to know what tricks to anticipate, and how best to fend off his minions. Nirios: And though I may not have my brother's charm, I might as well learn all I can about our new neighbors while I'm at it. <Character>: I think that's a worthy goal. We're all working together, after all! <Character>: <Dragon> and I will head out now, then. Take care, Nirios! Nirios: And you two, as well. I look forward to hearing your updates later, in Atrea. *Scene fades to black.* Complete Quest Loot for DCs - opens AHFA Loot for DCs shop.
