I don't know that you have to worry, Alex. Fountain is the only arena that is likely to have water, but since Fountain changes its terrain every year there's actually no guarantee that it will contain ANY water.

^Agreed. I wonder how it'll be, last year I didn't join because I felt like I wasn't ready. I watched from the shadows. Now I'm approved in this year's EC's and waiting for the beginning. I swear, I think I shivered when I saw Kell post the thread.

The only thing I'm surprised about is the fact that there is relatively few entrants... Oh well, must be an akward time for most people.

Kell, any word on when the sign ups will be over?

No need for panic yet Nightly, there'll be more people entering. Remember, you haven't actually posted your bio yet, a lot of other people will be in a similar position. As for when the signs up end, well, I can't be sure, but I have a feeling there won't be any set date until a few more people sign up, to make sure that even in the worst case scenario there are enough people to make the championship interesting.

Panicking.

Well, I look forward to seeing your bio, but you see my point. A fair few people will also be working on their bio. I would be too, but I create Florindo last year so I had most of my work done for me. Any clues as to what element you'll be choosing?

I believe this should answer your question, Nightly.

A lot of people are currently ending school right now and final exams are just around the corner for me, so that will probably delay at least a few RPers.

But fret not, for Reinharn will be here later today!

I plan on fighting for the Light Lord.

To all:

Would I get in trouble for using moves that people used in previous years?

You won't get into trouble, no, but if the judges notice that you lifted those moves from other characters in previous ECs it may reflect badly when they start judging your posts. Also, be careful about which moves you copy, because the IC threads don't show when an RPer may have gotten in trouble for using powers that were considered god-modded. Honestly, when I go back and read the previous ECs, my goal is to create a character that has as few abilities as possible in common with other characters. There will always be some that overlap, of course (it's almost impossible for certain powers to be avoided with some elements), but I'm pretty sure that my current entrant is completely unique in the Wind class of warriors.

Still, whatever works for you. Like I said, just be careful which ones you pick, and explain them properly in the bio and you shouldn't have an issue getting approved.

Hmm. Well most of the ideas I've lifted aren't combat-orientated, so I should be okay.

Nightly: Thank goodness you chose Light! I've been arguing with myself between Light and Earth, but since we now officially have at least one candidate for Light, then I can go back to the character I've been thinking about since last year. He'll be arriving later today.

I've decided this year I'm going to wait to turn in my application. I want to see which element has the least representatives and then make a character for that element. I figured this won't just keep it even, but it'll also be a nice challenge for myself.

A new one fresh from the oven.

Name: Reinharn the Revenger
Race: Minotaur
Age: 36 winters
Gender: Male
Element: Earth

<First Post>
Physical Attributes

Height: 8'10''
Weight: Around 825 lbs
Appearance: Reinharn’s entire body is coated with short yet thick brown fur. It is darkest on his legs, resembling mud or dirt rich in minerals. As the hair approaches his waist, it begins to lighten until it almost has a golden quality to it. The dark-brown fur is nearly two inches in length while the lighter is barely over a half-inch. This golden-brown is present from three inches above his waist up to the rest of his body with a few exceptions.
On his abdomen, the darkest brown fur converges from his hips up to a half-foot past his navel. On his back, a similar occurrence is present, but the dark-brown hair continues all the way up his spine and runs across his head, splitting it in two.
More of the darker hair is located on his arms from the bottom of his wrists to his elbows. This hair is half as long as the usual dark-brown hair with the sole exception of the elbows, where the hair progresses to three inches in length.
Identical horns roughly two feet in length rest upon his head. These natural weapons end in brutal and flawless points, revealing the care they are given by the great minotaur. If one dares to gaze past the horns, they might be surprised to see that they only extend half a foot beyond the pitch black nostrils of Reinharn. However, the real shocker is that the horns are not the most intimidating feature of his face. Two solid black eyes with thin golden rings encompassing them glare back at anyone brave or foolish enough to stare at them. There is evidence of a scar running vertical through the right eye, though there seems to be no damage to the actual eye itself.
Usually unnoticed, a short tail ending in black bristles rests behind the behemoth of a creature.

Armor

Reinharn dons a massive silver breastplate as the center of his armor. The plate is made up of circles of scales with the bottom of one row overlapping the top of another. This allows the torso to bend and twist while still being offered the protection of steel. Shoulder pieces cover its namesake, but that is where the breastplate ends. The plate is not immaculate as signs of batterings and even a small dent or two are noticeable, though this proves the sturdiness and toughness of the craftsmanship. Two thin strips of magnetic metal are located on the back as a holding place for the Razors.
Reinharn wears vambraces on his arms, stretching from the wrists to halfway up the upper arms. Again, these are plain and a bit worn, though still intact and quite formidable. An odd piece covers the back of the hand, and it was forged to bend back with the hand and still snap back into place if the hand is lowered.
A mail skirt is covered by another skirt made up of thin overlapping steel pieces. Worn on the hip and reaching down to the thighs, these skirts move with the legs to ensure that this part of the body is protected at all times.
Reinharn wears a helm that covers the back of his head and reaches down to his nose. Its form travels around the eyes and horns, allowing the enemy to experience the maximum amount of fear possible. It is of the same quality as the rest of his armor.

Weapons

Earthshaker: A double-headed battle-axe exceeding seven feet in length and three feet from the tip of one sharp edge to the other. The staff section of the axe carries no significance, but the bottom is decorated with a thin circle of metal and ends in a point rather than rounding out.
The head of the axe is symmetrical with each half shimmering like a quarter-moon. Unlike the dull colors of the armor, the axe-head contains signs of great and almost paranoid care.
Ravager and Destruction: Two identical cleavers worn on both hips. Approximately four feet in length, these weapons appear to be the axe heads of the strongest human welded onto the handle of a longsword. They are one-sided and only require the use of one hand to properly wield one, though Reinharn always uses the cleavers together. Crafted from steel, the carry the same shine as the head of Earthshaker.
Razors: Three identical s-shaped blades with the handle in the center, causing the weapons to be double-sided. Lengthwise, they are three and half feet long if they were to be measured from end to end in a straight line. Their odd shape prevents their use in hand-to-hand combat, though it enables them to be thrown for long-range, that is, if one has the necessary body strength. They are kept on the back by two thin magnetic plates on the back of the breastplate. The distance between them is just enough to fit the handle of one Razor in-between, and they are long enough to hold the Razors side by side. The magnetic pull is strong enough to hold the weapons through running and even a few small tumbles, but weak enough to be overwhelmed by a quick sudden jerk (i.e. Reinharn’s hand).

Abilities

Strength: As a minotaur, Reinharn possesses great physical strength that easily surpasses many of the other races of Lore. At most, he can lift a thousand pounds above his head for a few seconds before he must cast it aside. As such, Reinharn can wield his weapons without difficulty and can launch his Razors nearly a hundred feet at maximum.
This results in a crush-and-smash fight style where Reinharn will not try to get around a shield but rather force his way through it.
Endurance: They say the bigger they are the harder they fall, but they obviously do not know that it takes quite a while for them to fall. Reinharn’s large size naturally allows him to take more dangerous blows without dying immediately. Even if a wound were to require a week’s worth of rest and intensive care to ensure survival, Reinharn would still be able to deliver a few more blows before losing consciousness.
Bull Rush: Reinharn can achieve a top speed of nearly thirty-five miles an hour. However, this is only under certain conditions: lack of additional weight, a straight or barely curving path, and a smooth terrain. Without any one of these, his maximum speed will drop, though it can still be both impressive and lethal.
Close-for-Comfort: The closer an enemy is to Reinharn, the better he can react to the situation. He can be quick in terms of attacks and counterstrikes, so long as the adversary cannot get too far away from him.

Background

Reinharn was born into a a great minotaur tribe in the eastern plains. His grandfather was the esteemed and fierce Garrein, the Prime Minotaur of the Eastern Tribe. As a young calf, Reinharn was trained by the various warriors in order to become swift, strong, and enduring so that he may one day be a great leader himself.
In the summer ten years after his birth, the Eastern Tribe came under assault by a group of humans wishing to turn the plains into a series of settlements. Seeing the minotaur as nothing more than huge beasts, the humans attacked in the hopes that after a few had died the rest would flee. Unwittingly, the humans slaughtered a group of female minotaur who were recalling their husbands from the hunt. Among them was Farheia, Reinharn's mother and mate of Ripshar, the warrior son of Garrein.
Seeking vengeance, Garrein rallied the warriors and led a crusade against the humans, vanquishing the initial vanguard that had been sent to clear the plains. This began a bloody and vicious war between the humans and minotaur with neither side willing to compromise. In the beginning, the Eastern Tribe held the advantage with their monstrous fighters, but the tide began to turn as more and more humans gathered to "slay the barbaric bulls" with their ranged bows and strange sorcery. The use of these tactics was insulting to the Minotaur Code of Honor, and the most despicable act came when Garrein was struck by a bolt of lightning from the heavens before the commencement of a battle.
With their leader dead and many warriors slain, the Eastern Tribe fled to the northern mountains to escape punishment. By this time, Reinhard was thirteen years old and had already lost his grandfather, mother, and father to the humans. He was offered protection from various members of the tribe, but he ultimately left it after three months. For the next twelve years, Reinharn lived in the wilderness, fighting the great creatures of the mountains for survival and living off of what he could hunt or gather. He grew big and strong as the primal instincts took over, and as his maturing came to an end, he returned to the scattered remnants of the tribe to take his rightful place as Prime Minotaur. Gathering them into a full-fledged tribe once more, Reinharn forged the minotaur into a fierce and relentless army. Aid was provided by the befriended dwarves, for they told stories of the time that they lived merrily in the south. Equipped with weapons and provided with the new invention of the Razors, the Eastern Tribe descended upon the plains and challenged the forces of the humans. Thanks to their prior knowledge of magic and their own Razors to combat the bows, the humans were exiled from the plains, their settlements burned to the ground without any pillaging.
For many years after the conquest, the Eastern Tribe lived in prosperity in a time of peace and harmony. Reinhard took a mate, Terria, and eventually fathered a son, Sharhide. His revenge complete, Reinhard spent his days treasuring his son as if he was worth all the riches in the northern mines.
Recently, humans have once again trespassed in the plains with words of vengeance for the destruction of their settlements, but no acknowledgment for the tribe's original claim to the land. While no official declaration of war has been made, a few skirmishes has worried Reinhard into believing that no lasting peace will ever be granted to the minotaur.
With tensions rising, Reinhard discovered the existence of a grand tournament revered as the Elemental Championship. The victor, so he's been told, is given the favor of his Elemental Lord. Thus, Reinhard has traveled to the realm of the humans in order to participate in this contest, so that the Lord of Earth will forever watch over his tribe.

I'm not exactly sure how this one will fly with everyone, so I'm more than willing to compromise with Reinharn.

FYI: He has not magic powers.

Two notes, first, pauldrons are shoulder armor, vambraces or bracers are forearm armor. Second, for a competitor nearly 9 feet tall, he certainly doesn't weight much. My conception of him is stereotypical minotaur, big, strong, angry. Might want to add some weight to him. Nevertheless:
Approved.
~Kell

Hmmm, next time I should not trust the internet so much...
Also, Reinharn is now a healthy 300 lbs heavier.

To be totally fair, the combat ability of your character matters a lot less than the RPers combat RPing ability. That is to say, the weakest character could still win the championship, as long as they were entertaining enough. In fact ken, being in Cellar could be good for you, it would give you a chance to be creative and provide some good RPing oppurtunites for your character... I mean, how would a guy who can normally rely on regenerating react in a situation where that ability is stripped from him?

Clyde and Apocalypse! So glad you're both signing up. Actually quite glad to see a minotaur, they're an interesting race. I'd love to take Reinharn on, despite how difficult it may be with Florindo.

Minotaurs are my favorite mythological race so I'd agree with Geddes when I say that I'd want to fight Reinharn. I can't imagine fighting Ember, though. It'll be very interesting, to say the least. Maybe next time I'll think of another race, other than human.

I'd actually want this for my character. I think the best setting against him would be Fountain, but correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just playing around now, but I've been scouting the past EC's. Done with Fountain, which was unexpectedly the first to catch my eye. I think Spike will be next.

*steals Bee's bio format*

[plaice-holder]

Name: "Slugger"
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Alignment: Ice

Appearance

Dark and mysterious (tm). Arguably handsome, too. But you wouldn't really tell under the cowled cape that goes to just above his heels. The vestiges of stubble coat his chin, the only sign of neglect on a body that looks chiselled from a glacier. Hm. Yes. Statue. Best way to describe him, really. Expressionless, more often than not, without an inch of body space wasted as fat. Perhaps a bit slimmer than you might expect, though.

Clothing/Equipment

Don't be fooled. Slugger carries thick armour on his chest, shoulders, and hands, held over a robe which hides his armoured legs and feet. He's not one to be messed with, even if the armour looks slightly too heavy for him. He carries a bastard (one-and-a-half-hand) sword for a weapon.

Skills/Abilities

Slugger controls heat, simply enough. He can siphon energy from nearby enemies as a passive ability, allowing him greater speed and strength. This is a slow process, and without this initial boost he is a poor fighter on account of his armour and weapons simply being too heavy to carry well. Enemies fighting him would feel gradually colder and more lethargic as a fight dragged on. This allows him, for example, to take the damage from a fireball hitting his armour in order to gain a bout of speed from the absorbed energy.

Slugger can also unleash stored energy in the form of cooling things, which is particularly effective at blinding an opponent with a wave of freezing air, or for more traditional ice magic. He needs to do this periodically, since if he isn't careful he can simply overheat from the energy he carries - fainting mid-battle isn't a great option for survival.

Slugger is, aside from his lone ability, a very capable melee fighter. That sword of his can break chainmail, and he knows how to swing it. His stance switches from defensive to aggressive, depending on his level of energy.

[Edited slightly - his elemental affilitation was more than a tad ambiguous.]

Approved.

*Hands a plaice to Mittoo* There you go... don't know why you want it though.

It seems Slugger's abilities are very similar to Florindo's. That should be interesting if they end up fighting each other, although I think perhaps Slugger could have the advantage if it was purely using their heat based abilities.

Name: Radnav

Race: Moglin

Gender: Male

Age: 896 years old

Alignment: Earth

Appearance: Radnav is roughly 2 feet tall, the average size of Moglins, with purple fur and a white long beard and mustache to signify his elderly age. He does not wear any clothes like most Moglins.

Abilities: Radnav's only possesion is a seemingly simple wooden cane that his half his height that he uses frequently when moving from one place to another. However, hidden in the staff is a sword with the same length of the cane that Radnav uses when he needs to defend himself. The blade itself is made from a meteorite, giving it a black hue and the endurance to stand up to most opponent's weapons when engaging someone in a fight.

Radnav uses his elderly appearance and small sature to get the drop on his opponents, as they usually think that he is slow as dirt. In reality, Radnav is an extremely agile swordsman who prefers speed to any other method of combat. As such, Radnav's technique lacks the strength necessary to pierce thick armor.

While Radnav is surprisingly agile for a moglin, he often uses the earth to give him a boost when jumping and uses magnetism to help give him a boost of speed here and there when needed. Radnav also uses chunks of earth and hurls them at opponents, but he can manipulate the earth when needed. He also has the ability to use magnetism to control metal objects similar to telekneisis. In addition, Radnav is versed in healing magic because he is a moglin. However, because he is an elderly Moglin who relies mainly on speed, he can't take too many hits.

Quirks: Radnav does not communciate well in the Common Tounge, and as such doesn't talk in proper grammer. He also likes to ramble on and on like old guys do and will often ask you to repeat stuff. He also prefers not to use violence unless absolutely neccessary, and is not quite sure why he even bothered entering the tournament, however he does take combat very seriously.

Thank you for the edits.
Approved.

That time of year again, is it? Hmm... Which character should I bring in...

*flips through a handful of cards in his hand, seeking a suitable character*

Haven't been able to use this guy much... Every RP I've used him in has died off 'cause the thread-starter disappeared.

Name: Jonathan Longhair
Gender: Male
Race: Jakkai, used with permission.
Element: Energy
Height: 3 feet
Build: Slim, with moderate muscle.
Occupation: Hunter
Age: 23

Appearance: Currently sporting his summer fur with spots on his cheeks. The fur on top of his head is tied back in a ponytail that reaches the base of his tail, hence his name. His eyes are the colour of amethysts, and always seem to hold a serious look to them. He wears a black hunter's tunic with matching pants, and is generally barefoot.

Weapon: A hunting knife approx. the length of his arm.

Armour/Shield: None.

Abilities: Quick and nimble, he relies more on speed than strength, and prefers to dodge a blow rather than take it. His small stature makes him a difficult target. Magically, he's able to toss out a single, focused stream of lightning, or release multiple electric sparks that move erratically in the general direction that he's facing.

Personality: Serious, focused, and occasionally snarky. He suffers from wanderlust.

History: Not much to say, really. He grew up in a small village populated by his own kind. In his late teens, he began to experience an urge to travel, which he chose to indulge. Since that time, he's travelled extensively throughout Lore, hunting game for food, skin and coin. He is entering the EC to test the skills he's honed in the hunt and in fending off the occasional highwayman.

First post

If he's unacceptable due to his race, I've got Graceella Nightowl waiting in the wings as a backup. Antyhing else can probably be tweaked.

As long as you have permission I suppose it isn't an issue.
Approved.
