Jonathan does not like short jokes, or insults based on his height, except when he's the one makin' 'em.
Jonathan uses his magic by channeling electricity through his hands and releasing it in the forms mentioned in his bio (focused bolt, or meandering charges; think lightning and charged bolt from the Diablo games). A side effect of this is that, if he's holding his knife, some of that electricity flows through that. There's not enough spark in one hand to do any major damage: If he doesn't use the spell before something touches his knife, they'll get a static shock at the most.
In order to use his magic, he has to bring his hands together, either striking the ground to produce multiple sparks, or almost-clapping them in front of him to create a focused bolt.
Really should have clarified all that in the bio, but it didn't occur to me that holding a metal object while channeling electricity was going to do things other than what I intended. Bad electronics student!
