The Father's Door

Today's Event > Father's Door! (Shadowy Face of Corruption!)

«Scene: The Hall of Memories. Scene pans downward.»

Abode: Hello? Is someone there?

«Scene: «You» enter to see Falerin.»

Falerin: I am ready to act. We have some evidence about Ardendor and I am prepared to let the other one in now.
«You»: You mean Donovan. Very well.
Falerin: Given our relationship, «You», I thought you may wish to observe...
Falerin: Were you speaking to someone, Abode?
Abode: I thought I detected someone, and one of the doors came active, but... no, it must have been nothing. Just the wind...
Falerin: Very well, I have a possible lead on the analog... meet me in Fair Harbor.
Falerin: In the meantime, «You», make yourself scarce... find a place to hide. I will return shortly.
(simultaneously) Abode: Very well. «You»: Very well.

«Falerin disappears. Two arrows appear next to two of the doors.»

After clicking either arrow:

??? (1): Are you certain you need to see this? This is breaking and entering... our relationship with the Caelestian has always been positive.
??? (2): I am sure, my lady. there are details of these events I was not present for, and by your own permission, Falerin is an unknown quantity at this point.
??? (3): Falerin is, as the lady says, somewhat less predictable at the moment, but he does remain our ally...
??? (2): My Lady, Lord, I plan to do Ardendor no harm. Nor any harm to this place. I merely need to see the past to know what I prepare for.
??? (2): Even if Falerin is still trustworthy he is under the scrutiny of our enemy. We cannot afford the attention.
??? (1): Then this is the door you seek. I caution you toward caution. Even cloaked in shadows as you are... he might see. His shadows antecede those we provide.
??? (3): So you had best make this quick.
??? (2): The Father's Door... Yes, this is definitely the one. Let's go, then...

«Scene fades to darkness. New Scene: Nightbane's Castle. Falerin teleports in to be greeted by Donovan.»

Donovan: What are you doing here, Caelestian?
Donovan: If you come here at the behest of the nervy Bird-man I cannot guarantee you, power or not, that you will need an undertaker, not an Attorney at Law.
Falerin: That is not it at all. You are aware of my resurrection, how I cam back like a phoenix, right?
Donovan: I have heard rumors... but what does that have to do with me? Have you come to waste my time with meaningless blather, Loremaster?

«Falerin turns into Kid Falerin.»

Falerin: ENOUGH! I will not tolerate being disrespected even if I can understand your OBJECTION!

«Scene zooms in on a Vampire Lord with a rather puzzled, scared face.»

Vampire Lord: ...

«Scene pans along to a Werepyre with a similarly disfigured physiognomy.»

Werepyre: ...

«Scene pans along to Crispus, who is also o.0»

Crispus: ...

«Donovan pokes his head in the Scene, the last o.0»

Donovan: ...

«Scene zooms out.»

Donovan: There is no need to shout, Loremaster.

«Kid Falerin turns back into Falerin.»

Falerin: Really? I thought that was how it was done before?

«Falerin turns into Super-strong Ultra Mega Falerin Man™»

Falerin: Okay, then. Sorry about that.
(simultaneously) Donovan: Something HAS clearly happened to your mind... Abode: Fal...
Abode: Lord, forces are moving in the forest. If Dhows discovers you here, he will discover your duplicity.

«Super-strong Ultra Mega Falerin Man™ turns back into Falerin.»

Falerin: While I appreciate the warning, Abode...

«Falerin turns into Lanfiré Dupre's likeness.»

Falerin: thank you ever so much for just blowing our cover for Donovan and his lackeys.
Crispus: Hey! We are literally standing right here!
Falerin: If Dhows learns of our activity our plan to remove him will fall apart.
Donovan: So you really are working against him rather than for him. Fascinating...
Donovan: You have my ear, Loremaster. What is it you wish of me?
Falerin: Nothing. I come to speak of what I have to offer you.
Donovan: I am listening.
Falerin: While I like your half-sister, your conflict with her is not my concern. Dhows IS. The man killed me. He has manipulated my avatar and there is evidence he plans to fomen...
Falerin: Let's just say, he plans to cause my people, and your own, a great deal more trouble.
Falerin: Dhows must be stopped.
Falerin: I gather you have no more love for Webb's web than I?
Donovan: I detest him and wish to salt the earth with his bones. Is that enough love for you?
Falerin: Excellent. Then we can proceed. May I transport us elsewhere?
Donovan: Proceed? I suppose so. But if this is treachery...

«Lanfiré Dupre's likeness turns back into Falerin, who raises his staff and transports Donovan and himself back to the Hall of Memories.»

Falerin: I have aided your sister in her search for answers. In that act I have also given her an advantage. This might technically even contravene my neutrality.
Falerin: So, to balance that, I will aid you now... in two ways. Abode?
Abode: First, it is time to level the playing field. After today you and your designated agents will have access to my facilities. You may use them freely.
Donovan: How excellent...
Abode: But so shall many others. I am to be considered a neutral Demilitarized zone. Should you take up war within my walls...
Donovan: There is no need for idle threats. I am not a fool. What is your second cause here?
Falerin: Your half-sister has been planning and training. She has set in motion a new action...
Donovan: I am aware of her activity with my half-brother. She seeks to fight the very creatures she pretends to serve...
Falerin: That is not entirely fair. She calls herself a Shadowslayer because she seeks to fight the corrupting influence of "The Shadow" that has long hung over Darkovia. For ages...
Falerin: Given your goals I think you, too, would seek to fight this corrupting influence over the peoples of this place. You cannot unify anything in the face of that corruption.
Donovan: Who or what is "The Shadow"? You know, don't you...
Falerin: I do, at least partially. There have been many corrupting influences, and in fact "The Shadow" may not be just one being, nor any being at all.
Falerin: In spite of a certain Lorian propensity for misuse of the term "shadow," in this one instance it is actually more true than they realize.
Falerin: Yes, I definitely know what fell force spreads its corruption to Darkovia, and to all of Lore... in particular its supernatural beings.
Falerin: Having nearly fallen prey to such yourself, Donovan, I suspect you already do too.
Donovan: You mean...
Falerin: If you go through that door you will witness your answer. Be circumspect. You shall now see that which you sought to stop as well.

«Donovan walks down the hall and enters a door.»

Falerin: You may wish to follow him, «You»... I will be along shortly. Stay hidden.

«Scene: Darkovia in the past. Constantin transforms from Werewolf to human form by a Werebat.»

Constantin: You can come out, Erimus... I know you are there. Mine are the senses of the wolf.

«Erimus enters.»

Erimus: So it was true. Everything the commander said, true. Drageth's betrayal is hard enough, Constantin, but how could YOU do this? You, of all people?
Constantin: The beast has hungers all its own. It struggles, and oh, how it hurts. Not that you can understand pain. You always got everything.
Erimus: That is just an excuse! You clearly are in control of your faculties... How could you serve Father Dhows!? And what do you mean "got everything"?
Constantin: Do not play innocent, Erimus. We always competed, and you always won. In the end it was even you who won Cara...
Erimus: Do not tell me you are still holding a flame for my wife. Constantin, I was, and always will be, your friend.
Erimus: I refused to pursue Cara for years after the two of you broke it off. Had you not pushed me...
Constantin: Do not tell me as if I don't know... I know... I do not blame you...
Erimus: But you just said...
Constantin: I know what I said. That's not important now. What is important is your first question.
Erimus: Pardon?
Constantin: You wanted to know how I could serve Dhows.
Constantin: I can serve Dhows because it is the only way I can stay close enough to destroy him...
Constantin: Now do not tarry here, friend. Your wife has a newborn child at home and another on the way.
Erimus: What? How can you know that...
Constantin: *Sniffs air* I do watch out for my family, Erimus. For better or worse, you and Cara are all I have.

«Esyl enters.»

Esyl: Lord, the shadows move.
Constantin: We will meet again, Erimus. Go now to Cara's side... and please...
Erimus: Of course... I will tell her nothing... I could not tell her of Drageth either...
Constantin: Thank you.

«Scene: Back outside in the Hall of Memories.»

??? (1): Is your detail now sufficient?

«A pulsating Shadow, ??? (2), enters.»

??? (2): I know what happened next, more or less. Katerina was born... I did the dedication myself... I did not know that Constantin was working with Erimus against Dhows...
??? (2): What I cannot understand is what went wrong... I need to know that lest the mistake be made again. It is time to try a different approach.

«Scene fades to darkness and then returns to the Hall of Memories. The Commander Paladin stands waiting as Erimus and Constantin enter together.»

Commander Paladin: I am glad you two were able to come on such short notice. Excepting, of course, that you never did...
Erimus: I beg your pardon, commander?
Commander Paladin: These events are a mere fiction designed to gain more information.
Commander Paladin: Erimus. I need to know what happened to Katerina, what happened to your daughter and how it is the two of you became enemies.
Constantin: What are you playing at, Paladin? Why do you waste my time? I am the king of the loup garou, I do not answer to the beck and call of the church of light.
Commander Paladin: Nothing you say or do here is real. You are not real, Constantin. Erimus is not real. I am not real. We are all just memories the world clings to.
Constantin: Then you will not mind if I kill you and be on my way. I have no time for this. Erimus, we proceed as...
??? (1): Commander Paladin may not mind, but I do. And while you claim not to be beholden to my church your kind are very much tied to the light of the moon.
??? (1): Why do you suppose I let that be so, Constantin Petyrovich?
Constantin: What? Is that...? Impossible!
??? (1): And yet... here we are. This is as the image says. A fact-finding mission, nothing more... Are we ready to fast forward a bit through events, Paladin?
Commander Paladin: Your will, my lady...

«Scene fades to darkness. New Scene: Back in the past.»

Seth Cay: They come...

«Erimus and Constantin enter together.»

Constantin: Remember, the woman and her children are spared.
Seth Cay: Why, Constantin. I would never think of harming my beloved childhood friend...
Constantin: Tell that to my reflection, traitor. It is not you I speak to... it is the shade...
Erimus: Constantin, I can barely keep up... with... you and... What is this?
Constantin: The forces clawing at my mind... tearing at my soul... Erimus, they were too much...
Erimus: What?
Constantin: They have my son... I had to agree, but I made them agree your own should be spared, too.
Erimus: Please, Constantin, do not do this...
Constantin: I fear I have no choice. Today you die at my hand...

«Erimus falls to the ground. Esyl enters.»

Esyl: Constantin? I cannot locate Crispus anywhere... and the Lady's forces are moving in.
Constantin: Do not worry about our son... the matter is resolved. As to the Lady, sound the alarm.

«They leave.»

Seth Cay: That sounds like our cue to exit, your highness. This might get messy... in fact, I am counting on it...

«Dhows and Drageth disappear. Safiria and a Vampire Lord enter.»

Safiria: You were correct. That was the light priest. Our enemy is close... but who is this?
Vampire Lord: Is this not the Werewolf King's friend Erimus, my Lady? Apparently the priest is still not above using harm to friends to coerce.
Safiria: Unsurprisingly. Though potentially of benefit. He clings to life... bring him to the castle. He can be of use to us...

«Scene: Safiria's Castle.»

Safiria: He was Tainted already? What do you mean he was tainted already? How could that be hidden? From me of all people, how?
Vampire Lord: I know not my queen, but the infection will surely kill him.
Safiria: How unfortunate... well then release him at Luminovia's edge. Let him die in dignity at least.

«Scene: At the edge of Luminovia, where Erimus lies, fallen.»

??? (4): Balius, is that father? It is...
??? (5): Something is wrong, Katerina... use caution...

«Balius and Katerina enter.»

Erimus: Listen to your brother, Katerina, you must... you must flee from this place... flee and let me die.
Katerina: No... Balius, go fetch Dewlok at once. Father is gravely injured. I will be fine.
Balius: Right away...

«Balius leaves.»

Katerina: Calm yourself, Father... we will get you aid. All will be well.
Erimus: No... Katerina, you must not... I cannot, you do not understand...

«Scene returns to the Hall of Memories. Falerin is merely a white silhouette.»

Falerin: Halt playback...

«Falerin finishes entering.»

??? (1): You have enough now, we think...
Commander Paladin: I have... I know what happened here... how horrible a fate that is. One's own daughter... How long had you known I came here, Loremaster?
Falerin: From the beginning, Commander.
Falerin: You may hide yourself from the Abode even within him, but from me... within my own avatar?
Falerin: No, I knew and said nothing for I figured your reasons were sound.
??? (1): And this is only one such beginning, I fear...
Commander Paladin: What?
??? (2): The shadows had just begun falling over this family.
Falerin: Balius returned to find his father missing and his sister dead. Dewlok pursued the matter further and traced the attack back to Erimus.
Commander Paladin: That does not explain the time contradiction. Balius grew up not long ago... He certainly did not grow up in this time.
Falerin: That too you can be shown, Commander, but it is not this door your seek for that.
Falerin: This is Ermius's door. For that you need the mother's. But you are smart enough to piece it together, I expect...
Commander Paladin: I am not sure that...
Falerin: He never told her about Drageth or Father Dhows... The king was her childhood "friend." As far as she knew Constantin was dead and her husband...
Commander Paladin: Had been infected by some monstrous condition that led to him killing her daughter... So she went to Dhows and Drageth for aid...
Falerin: And for their part... they provided it. They kept their bargain... at least in this time...
Commander Paladin: I do not understand...

«Scene flashes and the Light and Dark Lords enter.»

Light Lord: Oh, my dear champion, of course you do. The father existed and exists in many times and in many places.
Dark Lord: So he "protected" Cara in a manner sure to keep her alive for a thousand years.
Light Lord: But also a way that was sure to drive Erimus even further to despair and make him easier to control in the fall that would ensue...
Dark Lord: A way that let him whisper to the son unfettered by the father, but with the son always remembering what he saw.
Falerin: He sent Cara and Balius into the distant future. A future where Luminovia had already fallen and in doing so denied Erimus and Constantin both their prize...
Falerin: This shadow hangs over Darkovia and his corruption still remains.
Falerin: I believe you all have the information you require. Return us, Abode.

«Scene fades to darkness. New Scene: Darkovia, present-day.»

Crispus: Our plan is in place, lord.
Donovan: Excellent, Falerin's aid has been invaluable.
Donovan: We shall use the techniques stolen from observing my brother and sister and our own "unique talents" to break the hold "The Shadow" has over Darkovia once and for all.
Crispus: The Night Hunters will be prepared, Lord.

«They leave. «You» and Falerin enter.»

Abode: That worked well.
Falerin: Your timing was perfect.

«Falerin turns into Kid Falerin.»

Falerin: You are even better at playing with people than I am, Abode.
«You»: You are a capable actor. But don't forget, Falerin...
Falerin: Yes?
«You»: The biggest acting is yet to come.
Falerin: I will not. Both sides have been set on their path of resistance. Paladin moves within Lore. Time is of the essence. I need to locate Ryuusei Cartwright...
«You»: Well then, proceed. Drop me off at Battleon, please?

«Falerin turns into Super-strong Ultra Mega Falerin Man™.»

Falerin: Sure thing Bud--dee!

«He takes «You» away. Cara enters.»

Cara: I see that I cannot escape the past even now.
Cara: I must find my granddaughter at once.

«Scene fades to darkness.»

    Bizarre Flecks 3!

Today's Event > Bizarre Flecks III! (Part 1 of 4!)

    «Scene: Falerin's Domicile. Falerin appears as Fal.»

    «You»: Good evening, Fal.
Falerin: Heya, «You». Just cutting down on the rogue Bookworm infestation. The master librarian is quite upset with them.
«You»: Aren't you the Master Librarian?
Falerin: Oh no. I own the library and I am the Loremaster, but I simply do not have the time to handle a Librarian's tasks. So I delegate.
«You»: So who IS the master librarian?
    Falerin: Annelidus is his name.
    «You»: Annelidus?
Falerin: Aye, a bookworm of singular talent.
«You»: Your library is being looked after by a bookworm? Isn't that a bit like leaving a fox to look after your hen house?
Falerin: Not at all. Not all bookworms consume willy-nilly, you know. They are preeminent scholars in their own right. Annelidus is foremost among them.
«You»: Thus the fact that he is upset by rogue bookworms.
Falerin: Precisely, and speaking of which...

«You»: As fun as it is to engage in pest control with you again, I assume there was a reason I was sent for?
Falerin: Yes, but My other fragments are engaged elsewhere.
Falerin: Oh, speaking of Webb. Were we able to discover anything?

    «Kid Falerin enters.»

Kid Falerin: There is some kind of very strong energy masking him, and it is not his own. Oddly enough it seems like Eldron is involved.

    «Falerin Lanfiré enters.»

    «You»: Lanfiré?
Falerin Lanfiré: Not quite. Lanfiré is elsewhere. I have spoken to Eldron. It is quite clear something else is going on here. He is no more informed of the location of Dhows's Lackey than we are.
«You»: if it seems like Eldron, and he doesn't know anything about it, maybe it's an analog?
Falerin: Hmm... Perhaps. Eldron, like most powers, tends to merge with his analogs and so has very few.
Kid Falerin: Some still exist, though. A few are strong enough to persist.
Falerin Lanfiré: Or radically different enough.
«You»: Dhows seemed very set on making an analog of Fal. Is it possible he did something similar to Eldron as well?

«Muscle Falerin and Teen Falerin enter.»

Muscle Falerin: Hi there, «You», old buddy.
Teen Falerin: Without Eldron being aware of it?
    Falerin Lanfiré: Not likely.

    «Falerin the Loremaster enters.»

Falerin: Ah, «You», you have arrived. Wonderful. Let me pull myself together.

    «The fragments combine.»

Falerin: I see my other fragments have not been as successful as I have...
    «You»: You have a lead?
Falerin: I have. What can you tell me about TDRs?
«You»: Transdimensional Realities? More than I wish I knew. They're like parallel worlds but where some very fundamental change happened, right?
Falerin: In essence, correct. Though I have yet to figure out what Dhows would want with a TDR and what it has to do with the former villain Xitra Regerik.
«You»: Wait, what? Xitra Regerik? He's involved in this?
Falerin: I am not sure how... but yes. Or at the very least his world is. I sought Ryuusei for some answers, as he spent some time there and might have insight...
Falerin: Unfortunately, Gaiden says his father is away.
«You»: Away? So go to him. Surely there is no place he could go that you cannot?
Falerin: Can and should are different things. Gaiden reports that Ryuusei has been plagued by terrible dreams ever since Cartwright's abrupt disappearance and they have escalated.
    «You»: Oh my.
Falerin: So he is seeking some sort of guidance. I suspect Ryuusei's problem may be ours soon enough, but at the moment we have enough balls in the air to start a jugglers' troupe.
«You»: An apt metaphor. So... wait. Xitra Regerik's world... The Flecks? This can't be a coincidence.
    Falerin: Pardon?
«You»: During the first incident with the Flecks and the quest to rescue Gaiden Cartwright.
«You»: Warlic and I ended up trapped in a strange TDR; at the time it seemed entirely out place, but...
Falerin: No, I agree. It is far too coincidental to be an actual coincidence. How did you end up in this TDR?
«You»: A device Warlic was working on transported me there...
Falerin: Ah, then it seems we are off to see the wizard.

«Scene fades. New Scene: Warlic's shop, wherein Warlic is brewing something in a cauldron.»

«You»: ... So you see, we need to return to that TDR if we are to find Ardendor and stop Dhows.
Warlic: Well, I can certainly get you in. I trust, Loremaster, that you can get back out again?
Falerin: Once I have the ORL things, I can come and go as I wish. ... Assuming there are no incidents.
«You»: Which there almost certainly will be. What's an ORL?
Falerin: Omniversal Reality Locator. Think an address or map coordinates but on an omniversal scale.
«You»: What about magic? It worked in the TDR before because of Warlic, but without him there...
Falerin: Given as we will be out of Lorian ambit, I can substitute myself for the mana of Lore readily enough... your magic should work as you expect.
«You»: So you will be granting my spells to me as if I were your priest? Somehow I am less than reassured.
    Falerin: Should I be insulted?
«You»: Well, You do tend to gravitate toward... high stress situations.
Falerin: Point taken. Are you ready?
  • I need more time... (Returns you to Battleon)
  • As ready as I ever will be! (Continues below)

«Scene: The Starship Centerprise flies through space.»

Mr. Slock: MMM, I do not think our Basic Reality Augmenter Neuroelectrical Engine, revision M, or the M. B.R.A.N.E. is going to hold, captain...
Mr. Slock: We simply do not have the imagination that E has; especially with E's help.
Captain Turk: I have been strung along by enough theories to start my own yarn factory, Slock, I need answers! Bridge to Snotty...
    Commander Snott: Snott here, captain.
Captain Turk: Let's not start that again, Snotty. I need more power to the M. B.R.A.N.E.
Commander Snott: The Unobtanium Chrysalis is already fragmenting and emitting light, captain. If I push things any farther the whole thing is gonna glow.
    Captain Turk: Is that dangerous?
Commander Snott: Well, no, not really.
Captain Turk: Then for gosh sake, do it, man!

    «The Centerprise shakes.»

Commander Snott: It's no good, captain, even with that device we cannae hold the Pilot's Logistical Operating Trajectory together. We are way off course...
Captain Turk: No excuse, Mister Snott. Get the P.L.O.T. together... there is no time for your flat bread to be quitting.
Commander Snott: Flat bread to quit, captain? I think the encounter with that new E has fried your brain.
Falerin: A Naan c'est Quitter? I see what you did there...
Mr. Slock: Strange as the Charm of this conversation might be I believe our time is Up and it is time to get on Top of things.
Captain Turk: Everyone has their quirks, Slock.
Mr. Slock: Everyone has their fermions as well, captain. How is that relevant? We need to get Down to business and get to the Bottom of things.
Agent Hemd Rojo: Transport Room 3, this is Rojo, to Bridge...
    Captain Turk: Go ahead, Hemd.
Agent Hemd Rojo: Another E has just arrived, captain, and he is with a strange human who apparently knew my cousin Noem bar Fhiev.

    «Scene: Transport Room 3.»

«You»: Captain Turk, this is «You», I need you and Slock to get down to Transport Room 3 immediately! We have some business to attend to.
Agent Hemd Rojo: Looks like something must've been caught in the transporter beam!

    «You»: Captain Turk, this is...
Captain Turk: ... E. You have a lot of nerve showing here! Why have you changed back into the impostor's clothing?
    Falerin: Uh...
«You»: That just means we are clearly in the right place. This is not E, this is Falerin.
Captain Turk: Ah, so it IS the impostor!
    «You»: No...
Agent Hemd Rojo: The E impostor was called Falerin Ardendor, but he told us to call him Ardendor...
Falerin: Well, that is my name, too... but you can call me Falerin.
    «You»: Listen, I can explain...
(simultaneously) Mr. Slock: Intriguing... Captain Turk: Someone had better start; none of this makes any sense whatsoever.

    «Scene fades to darkness.»

    Several hours later...

    «Scene: Transport Room 3.»

«You»: So you see, the Loremaster needs to get rid of Ardendor as well.
Falerin: And we might be able to handle your problem with my lookalike and his companion as well.
Mr. Slock: Easier said than done. Unfortunately, we just do not have the power, or imagination, to use the M. B.R.A.N.E. to breach the barrier.
    «You»: M. B.R.A.N.E.?
Falerin: You have access to an M. B.R.A.N.E.? Well, I would prefer a Z. B.R.A.N.E., but one works with what one can get... I can get you across the barrier into the E Continuum.
    Falerin: Point me to engineering...
Falerin: In the meantime, «You», those lobsters are coming back... I recommend lemon and butter.

    «You»: ... Barely...
Falerin: As I was saying... I was able to hold us together, but now we need to find Ardendor and my analog. Cmdr. Snott has taken a sample of my deinetic material to adjust your long range scanners.
Falerin: If you feed the output from the scandishire array back across your main dejector dish and filter the result through a can of peas... you may be able to track my analog that way.
«You»: Why not just pull it out?
Captain Turk: Far to early in this episode to pull it out, «You»
    Falerin: Pull it out?
    Captain Turk: Don't ask...
    «You»: It ruins the mystique.
    Falerin: Oh my. More incoming...
    «You»: Does it ever end?
Falerin: It hasn't for ten years now, «You». Why would it start now?

    Somewhere in the E Continuum...

«Scene: The Centerprise is caught in the tractor ink of a giant squid.»

Agent Hemd Rojo: Zhar she blows...

«Scene zooms in on the giant squid's eye, in which Eldron (E), Falerin (E), and Ardendor may be seen.»

Falerin: A ship shaped like a giant squid... My analog and his associates clearly read the right sort of fiction.
Commander Snott: Snott to bridge, the Doom Squid has us in its tractor ink, captain. It is going to draw us into its mouth of madness.

«Scene shifts to the eye of the squid.»

E (Eldron): In your haste... ur... you did not consider just what you would do if you caught us, did you...
E (Falerin): They never do. And they are left in a lurch, and all they can do is call dag on it.

    «Scene shifts to the Centerprise.»

    Falerin: Oh... mother of pus.
    «You»: Falerin!?
    Falerin: Bast...

Captain Turk: As interesting as your interplay is, gentleman, if we are going to escape from this, we really do need to put our heads together.
Captain Turk: I do not look forward to being another statistic in the most ancient track of all.

    «Scene: Back in Engineering.»

Falerin: Quite, we need to get Ardendor so we can go after The Evil Clergyman, before I get astrophobic. This situation is Nharly.
    «You»: You mean gnarly?
    Falerin: No.

«Falerin raises his staff, which begins to glow.»

Falerin: You have failed "The Last Test," Ardendor. Shields down now...
«You»: Transporter room, three to beam up...

    «Scene: Transport Room 3.»

Ardendor: There you are. Man, I was wondering if you would ever get here.
    «You»: ...
Ardendor: I also wondered if it would be you or the Father that found me first.
Falerin: We have no time for conversation. You know why we are here...
Ardendor: I do, and if you think I am gonna go along peacefully, you are nuts.
E (Eldron): He may know why you are here, E.
E (Falerin): E and I are less than certain, isn't that right, E?
E (Eldron: Indeed, you seem to be stepping on toes.
«You»: Who are these yo-yo knock-offs? What exactly is an E?
Falerin: Their euphemism for a deity, I imagine.
Mr. Slock: Er... I would not push their buttons if I were you, «You».
Captain Turk: The E are capable of feats of such unexplainable grandeur that even our top scientist's most elaborate handwaving disguise cannot disguise the fact that it is magic.
E (Falerin): Magic? As if we would be so gauche.
E (Eldron): Completely outside of the local paradigm...
Agent Hemd Rojo: Actually, E stands for Extradimensional Entity. Therefore, it correctly applies to all of you, including «You».
E (Eldron): How dare you interrupt?
Agent Hemd Rojo: Oh no... I was just trying to... that is... I did not mean to...

    «Hemd Rojo disintegrates.»

    E (Eldron): They never learn.
E (Falerin): You think they would realize it was always the one that...
«You»: I see what you meant about not pushing buttons, Captain...
E (Eldron): Oh yes... It is far too late; I feel my buttons have already been depressed. What about you, E?
E (Falerin): Absolutely. First an impostor of myself shows up with a strange shadow, and now another impostor shows up with an mouthy venturer from another TDR...
E (Falerin): Who just had the audacity to interrupt me after we... hmmm... hmm...
E (Falerin): I wonder how the wayfarer would look in a red shirt...
E (Eldron): That's enough to push anyone's buttons. I think perhaps a show of solidarity is in order.
Falerin: The games end. You claim sovereignty over this TDR? Fine, we will leave without incident. The alternative will be very unpleasant.
    «You»: For you.
Ardendor: That seemed almost like a threat, guys. I think he was threatening you.
    «You»: Shut your mouth, traitor.
Ardendor: Traitor? Traitor?! I was never your ally. How could I betray you?
«You»: Have you done it yet?

«Falerin raises his staff and fires a beam of energy at Ardendor.»

Falerin: I have restricted his access to most of my power. Beat him into submission and I will handle these... What was it you called them?
Falerin: Ah, yes... yo-yos. Strange you would know so Terran a reference... I think I am having a bad effect on you.
    «You»: You think?!
Falerin: Eldron, if you are listening, I could use some assistance.

      Full Heal

«You»: I'd been waiting to do that for years.
Ardendor: But I have not existed that long...
    «You»: So?

    «The two E's enter.»

Falerin: Right on cue. Time to say goodnight, Gracie.
    Ardendor: Good night, Gracie.
Falerin (E): You cannot do this, usurpers...
Eldron (E): What authority have you...
Eldron: I need to shut my mouth...
    Eldron (E): ...
Falerin: You are our analogs. That alone gives us authority.
Eldron: Besides, you are invaders here, too. We are merely cleaning your mess.
    Eldron: This won't bring godwar...
Falerin: Trust me. I am very sure about godwar. I am here to stop one.
    «You»: Time, Falerin.
Falerin: Quite right, Reality wants us to re-cohere. So be it.

«Eldron (E) is absorbed by Eldron and Falerin (E) and Ardendor are absorbed by Falerin.»

    Falerin: *belch*
    Eldron: Excuse you...
«You»: After a meal like that, I think anyone could forgive some indigestion...
«You»: Mr. Slock, Captain Turk, you will not be having any trouble with the E Continuum for a while. Shall we go, gents?

    «The Gods and «You» exit.»

Captain Turk: I love a happy ending...
Mr. Slock: Fascinating. There is still one problem, however, captain.
    Captain Turk: What's that, Slock?
Mr. Slock: How do we get back to normal space without Falerin here?
    Captain Turk: ...
    Captain Turk: D'oh...

«Scene: A dark forest in Regerik's reality. Falerin is Muscle Falerin.»

Falerin: Seems we were right about him being up to no good here.
«You»: Dhows's shadow must have corrupted this world for a very long time for it to be so different from ours.
    Falerin: It's not so different...
«You»: How can you say that? It was enslaved by an evil necromancer.
Falerin: Who was a twisted mirror of our own Artix called Xitra Regerik. More than one analog of Krieger has adopted that feathery gnome.
    «You»: What?

«Muscle Falerin transforms back into Loremaster Falerin.»

    Falerin: It's not important now...
Falerin: A fragment of Dhows appears to have been trapped here. It is not just me that has been gathering my pieces. He seems to have a piece of the Flecks as well.
«You»: That could be a problem...

    «Scene: Deep Limbo.»

Dhows: Created born of creation be reborn of uncreation. I baptize thee in my name... he he he.

    «Maxwell grows wings.»

Atlas: I think I am gonna like this...

«Scene zooms in on his eye. Scene fades.»

    Warlic's Haunted Shop
    Cauldron of Horrors!

Today's Event > Warlic's Terrorized Shop! (Cauldroons bubbling!)

Travelling the roads of Battleon, you can't help but notice the strange sounds coming from Warlic's Shop. While an explosion here and there isn't uncommon, there seems to be a lot of banging around and glass shattering... and chain rattling? You need to investigate!

«A CRASH! and a BOOM! come from Warlic's Shop. Inside, there is broken glass on the floor, a pile of books stacked untidily, and a cauldron bubbling.»

«You»: Huh, I wonder where Warlic's gone off to. His shop looks a bit messier than usual.

«Warlic sticks his head out from behind the books.»

Warlic: Ah, «You»! What brings you to my shop? Heard about my latest line of staves for the summer season?
«You»: Well, no, I'm looking to make sure I don't get cut up by the broken glass. I heard a lot of crazy noises coming from your shop...
«You»: What's going on, and why are you building forts out of books?
Warlic: Oh, you noticed that, yes. Well, it started with a strange... QUICK, DUCK!

«A vase flies at Warlic, who ducks. After it passes, his head pops out again.»

Warlic: Right... so, as I was saying. I started hearing odd noises that seemed to be emanating from the walls. I first shrugged it off as spending too many hours around the shop.
Warlic: The occurrences only became worse, though; objects began flying around the room.
«You»: Well, Warlic, sounds like you may have conjured up something rather nasty. You should be more careful about what magic you're channeling.
Warlic: Oh, you're right, it MUST have been the ARCHMAGE'S fault. Couldn't have been SOMEONE offering their "help" one day not to long ago.
    «You»: What do you mean?
Warlic: Well, it was an April day...

    «Flashback to April Fools 2012 event:»

Warlic: O..k, well, if you would like to hand me a pinch of the Inferno Coral.

«Scene shows «You»'s hand knocking objects off of the shelf.»

    Loco: Oooops. Ole butterfingers here!

    «The hand motion completes.»

    Warlic: N..n..n...Nooooo!

«After a brief explosion, the Scene returns to the present.»

    «You»: Oh yeah, that "help."
Warlic: Yes. I am unsure what exactly was thrown in the cauldron; but I know what the results were.
Warlic: My cauldron now possesses some kind of telekinetic powers and a rather unpleasant personality.

«The cauldron, named Cauldroon, opens its eyes and mouth.»

Cauldroon: Hey! I'm sitting right here!
    «You»: ?!?!
Cauldroon: Oh, shut up! See how you like being a giant pot people throw whatever into!
Cauldroon: If this is to be my new home, to live out my days as a kettle-- There's not going to be any pesky critters throwing their garbage in me!
«You»: Well, this was my mistake... sorta. I must correct this so it's back to wherever you came from!
Cauldroon: Mwuhahaha! Looks like you need a sampler platter of shelving, hero!

«Cauldroon's contents flash a different color and the shelf above «You» falls. «You» play the death animation.»

«You»: Ugghh... little help here, Warlic?

«Warlic lifts his staff. Magic plays around its tip, and «You» are revived.»

«You»: Ahh, thanks. Alright, creature, no more tricks. Time to take you down!

      1 BATTLE: Cauldroon
      Full Heal

«Cauldroon falls to the ground, eyes and mouth shutting, reverting into a normal cauldron.»

Warlic: Thank you, «You»! Maybe now things can get back to normal around here.
«You»: No problem, Warlic, always glad to lend a hand... when I'm not possessed. You were saying something about some new staves earlier?

???: We were with «You» when Dhows's Doom Sheep made its horrid transformation.
???: We were with «You» when Falerin died at the hands of Dhows's manipulation.

«A flash of light. The Commander Paladin and, oddly enough, fully manifested forms of the Lords of Light and Darkness, enter.»

Commander Paladin: And we remain with «You» now. My Lord. My Lady. The task moves forward.

    ««You» now enter.»

«You»: Here goes nothing... a war against the Loremaster and Atlas. How did we get to this point...
Commander Paladin: Via a long and winding road, «You».
Dark Lord: The liar shall be named this day.
Lady of Light: Have you decided what you shall name him?
«You»: I was thinking Sneaky McShadowpants has a good ring to it...

Dhows: Silly Paladin, betrayal's for allies...
Dhows: Like most birdies you fail to recognize the truth... I am not Lorian... I was never Lorian.
Dhows: I cannot betray... YOU... «You»... What are you doing, what will you do, what have you done to me...
Commander Paladin: What are you talking about, Dhows?
Dhows: Echoes of a future coming present... Irrelevant... you are about to become my willing servant as a milling undead...
Commander Paladin: You plan to raise a servant of the Lady as undead... NEVER...
Dhows: Your fate was long ago sealed, Paladin. The corruption of your flesh had already begun when you were busy trying to turn the Werepyre against me.
Dhows: But I have good news. You will get to see the Dracopyres rise right by my side.

«Scene: The background turns red and the Scene proceeds in silhouettes. Commander Paladin tries to strike Dhows, but Dhows attempts to use his necromancy to turn the Paladin Undead. He does so, but a blast of light intervenes. The Lady of Light and the Dark Lord have entered. Commander Paladin's sword has transformed. Dhows has assumed his true form.»

Lady of Light: My Communicant is not yours, deceiver. Undead thought he may now be, he is still mine and he leads my armies.
Lady of Light: You may not claim you did not betray me, as your act alone does...
Dark Lord: It does not apply here anyway, dear, as the firstborn will not spread his disease further.

    «Commander Paladin raises his sword.»

Commander Paladin: You have been found wanting, Shadow, by both the Light and the Dark...

Unnamed: Flee through time, then, tweets. I am not a slave to you.

Ardendor: We may have been friends once but that was before I was reborn.

Several Days Ago, The Library at Isle d'Oriens.

«Scene: Falerin's Domicile. Oddly enough, the memorial to Falerin now reads "dhows was here".»

«You»: They said that undefined behavior could do almost anything. I am still not sure who they were or why they said that...
«You»: This isn't the story of division by zero. In fact, it started well before that. Well before me.
«You»: I am only starting to understand how it started... Once I would have assumed it was a dark and stormy night... but now I have learned better... it rarely is appropriately dark and stormy...
Lanfiré: This is totally not going to work. I doubt he can act any more convincingly than you can...

    «Falerin enters as Lanfiré Falerin.»

Lanfiré Falerin: I am an arrogant know-it-all who used to be a kindly wizard but now just stares down his nose in condescension at the very people I depend on to help me.
    Lanfiré: ...
«You»: A flawless rendition. I give it a perfect ten.

«Scene fades and returns to Darkovia.»

Falerin: You win this time, «You». Dude, I have no idea how you restricted my divine power, but the next time, it is you and not I who will be meeting their defeat...
After 75% of the monsters were defeated, Cutscene 2 was unlocked.

«Atlas flies in on new wings.»

Atlas: It really is a shame...
    «You»: A shame?
Atlas: That the story of the Chosen of Lore is about to end here in such an ignoble way.
Atlas: Still, you are the Avatar of Hope, are you not? Consider yourself the first of the Avatar that I shall kill on my path to ascension.
«You»: You've gone mad. Dhows has thoroughly manipulated you...
Atlas: You should worry more about Dhows and less about me. I can handle Dhows one way or another.
«You»: You don't care if he's misleading you...
Atlas: Do I need to draw you a map, «You»? Of course it does not matter. If he has misled me, then I will turn against him, but that does not change my plans regardless.
«You»: What has happened to you...
Atlas: More than you will ever know or understand. It is you and not I that chose to stand by Ryuusei Cartwright... Now you fall...

      1 BATTLE: Atlas Maxwell
      Full Heal

«You»: Just listen. Ryuusei has reformed. He's still not exactly a nice guy, but even The'Galin has taken him back...
Atlas: Then the Devourer remains a fool, being misled by the Network.
«You»: He has been quite helpful. He helped save his son...
Atlas: I am well aware of the Flecks. I am aware of what happened.
    «You»: And?
Atlas: It changes nothing. I know the Flecks; I have been reborn through them... but nothing he can do can make up for what he has done.
«You»: Everyone deserves a chance, Atlas.
Atlas: Not Twain. Not him. He can never earn forgiveness.
«You»: I didn't say forgiveness, I said a chance... Please, I have defeated you, just listen... You know me...
Atlas: Not Twain. Not him. He can never earn forgiveness.
    «You»: ...
Atlas: Do you remember what happened with Daniel?
«You»: The child... What about him? There was the Cold and then... what did happen then...
Atlas: You have forgotten? Dhows was right... It does not matter if he is manipulating me.
Atlas: The fact that you've forgotten what Cartwright orchestrated and what I told you of what he did to me means that whatever happens, nothing changes...
«You»: But you were a friend once.
Atlas: Once, perhaps, but no more.

    «He flies away.»

«You»: What did happen with Daniel? I remember the Drakel... he warned us... what was his name... Terrel... terral... something... but after that... blank...
«You»: It's almost as if I started reading a book that the author never finished...
«You»: How can I just have forgotten...

    «Commander Paladin enters.»

Commander Paladin: It is unlikely you could have. If you do not remember what occurred there is likely a reason. The Hall of Memories can likely aid you in resolving any dangling threads...
Commander Paladin: But first we need to name the priest.
«You»: Yes, I suppose it will wait for now.

    Ardendor: Good one, buddy.

Unnamed: Oh, you knew this already... do not play innocent. You used me as much as I you.
Atlas: Perhaps, but the using stops now, priest.
    «You»: Finally...
Atlas: This changes nothing, «You». We will be meeting again.
Unnamed: Oh, but the using never ends... it has not even begun yet. Ardendor, deal with Atlas before he disrupts our plans.
Ardendor: Yeah... man... time to take out the trash. Hefty by any other name would be as... Oh, forget it...
«You»: Just one problem with that... You say you have this scoped out and know everything, but time is not on your side, my friend.
Unnamed: Such quackery... I exist outside of time. How could you stand a chance?

«A flash of light. The Lords of Light and Darkness enter.»

Lady of Light: You are not the only being that exists outside of time, fallen one.
Dark Lord: Not by a long shot.
    «You»: Falerin, now...

«Ardendor flashes and changes into his Falerin suit on the side of «You».»

    Atlas: My cue to leave.

    «He flies away.»

Falerin: You freed my hand, Dhows, or whatever your name is...
    Unnamed: What?!
Falerin: You are not the only being capable of subterfuge, priest.
Unnamed: I am not a being at all...
Falerin: Once, that claim might have held water... but though the Labor may have been long and hard you have been born, firstborn, and the first step after a child is born...
«You»: Is that they are given a name.
«You»: I name you shadow. I name you deceit. I name you firstborn. And I name you Erebus.
Falerin: Now the real fun begins...

    Bizarre Flecks III!
    An Undiscovered Universe!

Today's Event > Bizarre Flecks III! (Part 3!)

«Falerin and «You» walk up to another door in the Hall of Memories, this one wooden and covered in strange symbols.»

Falerin: This is risky, but we need more than his name; we also need his home coordinates. A regular abjuration would not require that...
«You»: But everything about him is irregular.
Falerin: Indeed, and he is already moving to try to stop this... He is quite willing to flaunt god war, like an unfortunate number of people recently.
«You»: Even here in your home?!
Falerin: He killed me here, «You»...
«You»: Point... and speak of the devil. Looks like he sent some Transmorphers, too...
  • Smashy!

      2 BATTLES
      Full Heall

Falerin: Given his ability to cross his own time stream things are quite messy... Step one in finding the truth about him is to neutralize that immunity to temporal examination.
    «You»: Which means?
Falerin: I have sacrificed my own in the past, am even doing so now. So does any being who enters normal time. He only exists outside of it when he is not within it.
«You»: Then how can he exist in multiple times from his own perspective relatively simultaneously?
Falerin: The same way I can exist in multiple places relatively simultaneously... colocation.
Falerin: Until recently, like him, all of my pieces looked similarly... it wasn't until his manipulation...

    «Muscles enters.»

Muscles: That your true inner human was revealed...
    Falerin: Don't push, you...
Muscles: Don't worry, you won't. You are far too worried about Webb.
Falerin: The difference is this is temporal in appearance.
    «You»: Just in appearance...
Falerin: Well, and in side effect. You see, what he does is colocates himself and then sends each piece to do a different thing...
Falerin: Any given piece can then enter time. So each piece could theoretically enter at a separate point...
«You»: While from his perspective, it occurs nearly simultaneously...
Falerin: Yes, but time HAS passed for him. He has spent long periods interacting with the worlds he has manipulated.
«You»: Why doesn't this create a time paradox?
Falerin: Because it is only a temporal side effect. For him, this started nearly simultaneously and then diverged.
Falerin: Reality does not see it that way. Since this is not a primarily chronomantic effect. He is only assuming his positions within the time stream and doing would he always would have done.
Falerin: In a way, it is the opposite. His many actions are now converging him here...
«You»: Thus his birth as a being.
Falerin: Exactly. In many ways his hands are more tied than ours precisely because he stopped being transcendent and became immanent as much he did.
Falerin: And it seems we have some more of Erebus's friends to deal with; would you be so kind, «You»?
«You»: It would be my pleasure.

      2 BATTLES
      Full Heal

    «Eldron Larethian enters the scene.»

    Falerin: The effect is prepared?
Eldron: It is, though the Caelestian pantheon had to be appeased. Adding "Lorian Demipower of Lore: Discovery, Knowledge, and Secrets" to your portfolio raised all sorts of eyebrows.
«You»: !!! They accepted, then!? Loremaster, congratulations...
Falerin: A title I will keep and cherish, but others have held it on the many Lores before. If I am moving on up, I want others too to hold the mantle of Loremaster.
Falerin: Nel of Deren, as leader of the School of Thought, is an obvious candidate.
    Falerin: As to others... hmm.
Falerin: I think maybe Miss Vox might be a good candidate. We have not yet made contact, but I could hardly escape hearing of her. Creativity is... the door to imagination and lore.
«You»: Indeed, I've fought by her side a few times. She is fiercely protective of creativity and imagination, which is proven through her fight with the Truphma.
«You»: She will indeed be able to take up the mantle. Though, I still question her teaching methods...
Falerin: I imagine my methods too have raised eyebrows...
Falerin: And yes, aye, I was accepted universally, but then again my naturalization changes little. It only formalizes what already was happening....
Falerin: As to the Caelestian Pantheon, yes, accepting a position in a foreign pantheon tends to do that.
Falerin: They are hypocrites though, given the number of them that never came from Caelestia to begin with....
«You»: Does not change much... Fal this frees your hand to act on lore as a God. Uh, hold on, we have company.
  • Bash!

      2 BATTLES
      Full Heal

«You»: Great, he's got those now, too? Where was I? Oh yes, frees your hand...
Falerin: It loosens the shackles. It means that if I do intervene, that alone won't start a god war.
Falerin: But the places that are looking to stir trouble between the two pantheons were never depending on that alone.
Falerin: In some ways, it restricts me even further. I very much am an immanent deity. I prefer transcendence in my meditation and in my breaking barriers, but nothing else...
«You»: Hold that thought, looks like some more uninvited guests have arrived.
  • Fight!

      2 BATTLES
      Full Heal

«You»: He really is willing to take advantage of anything that comes along...
Falerin: Yes, perhaps, but I suspect there is more to it, «You». These Shadows should not be able to...

    «Commander Paladin enters.»

Paladin: Our part is in place, Loremaster. I am sorry, was I interrupting?
«You»: Not at all, I was just asking Falerin to explain how his adoption does not change things...
    Paladin: Ah.

    «Scene pans upward. The'Galin is revealed.»

The'Galin: Having gone about the process somewhat in reverse of the Loremaster, I have an answer for you.
«You»: Lord The'Galin! I was told your avatar had been sent away and...
The'Galin: You well know I have multiple avatar and forms, «You».
«You»: Point. I still can't quite get over having casual conversation with the Devourer of Worlds...
The'Galin: I detest that title... although it is accurate, I suppose, as it must be. That was never my nature nor the way I chose to be known... The Drakel term is better...
«You»: Sorry. I still can't get over having casual conversation with the Uncreator.
The'Galin: Ah... one of the reasons we chose you becomes more apparent...
    «You»: ...
The'Galin: Knowledge can be gained by learning. Wisdom only comes with time.
«You»: You were going to explain why your accepting of Falerin into the Pantheon changes little?
The'Galin: Divine politics... his Caelestian Role actively involves restricting others from using their power unilaterally.
Falerin: If the Caelestians, already looking for change, see me as a hypocrite... even if toward an entirely different place and situation...
«You»: War could come from your side, you mean...
Falerin: Not easily, but yes it could. Further I do not like being transcendent... Lore has a defined set of policies rather different than Caelestia's and a very different history.

«A flash of light. The Lords of Light and Darkness enter.»

Lady of Light: It is one of the reasons we do not manifest fully. Oh yes, I am sure you have heard stories of how how if we did the elements would surge out of control and the like...
Falerin: But mostly that is hype, even if I have encouraged the hype.
The'Galin: They would certainly augment their own element and throw off the balance, but that's not instant collapse. And while our realms and people do war...
Darkness Lord: We do not primarily war. It is a risk though, so the rules establish what has to happen before we do. We would simply come to balance each other. But our followers are more volatile...
The'Galin: So generally we do what I did and employ avatars, as does Falerin to a degree, but much less frequently than we. He employs a different but equally compliant method.
Falerin: I maintain my restrictions just as before generally... I actually bind my power so that there is less chance of my doing something accidentally to mess things up...
Falerin: I do that by doing more or less what Dhows has done. Entering linear time and letting its flow affect me.
«You»: Sacrificing your temporal immunity and much of your power base while you are actively interacting with Lore.
The'Galin: Precisely, a methodology that has begun to attract further attention among our own pantheon.
The'Galin: The Lady has employed it recently as a test when Paladin arrived. No cataclysm occurred.
    «You»: Why change?
The'Galin: One of my chosen avatar, even if I accept him back, did run the Network entirely against my wishes and tried to force my action against Lore, nearly succeeding...
Lady of Light: That does tend to suggest that the method we are using now is not a foolproof one, does it not, Chosen?
    «You»: Yeah, I guess so...

«The runes on the door glow red.»

Falerin: It is ready... so now to limit Erebus from stopping us...
«You»: How do we do that?
Falerin: By taking his temporal immunity as I indicated... Let's enter the door. My colleagues and friends, I thank you for your aid in this matter.
The'Galin: Just returning a few favors.
Lady of Light: And claiming retribution for a few crimes. My former priest must be stopped... his masquerading as a Cleric was an affront.
Eldron: I know the feeling. My entire church on Caelestia managed over time to replace the majority of my clerics with administrative priests...
Eldron: And tried to set me up as a monotheistic power in order to control the people...
Falerin: He responded by sending his Avatar to infiltrate the church and eventually rise through the ranks to that of High Archbishop.
Falerin: The equivalent of High Communicant here on Lore, the lead priest.
Eldron: And let's just say my "priests" are no longer in control, nor are they claiming to be my clerics... Nor will they... EVER again...
Eldron: Good luck, Fal. Be careful.
Falerin: Thanks El, I will. Shall we, «You»?

«Scene fades. «You» and Falerin are in a gray region.»

Falerin: You seem to be in the Dark. You wondered, «You», how we intended to remove his immunity. He loses it when he enters time... so we're taking him with us.
Falerin: Now that I have a name for him... we take him with us...
    «You»: Wait, seriously?!
Falerin: No better way, my friend.
«You»: Before that, may I ask you a question? I know you probably can't answer, but...
    Falerin: I will try...
«You»: The'Galin, Lorithia, and the Elemental Lords don't just appear to most people and talk to them. Why me?
Falerin: You may not be a deity, «You», but you are among the most important beings of all of the Lorian multiverse.
Falerin: You are a Chosen. For better or worse, look at what you accomplished here. Look at all your successes...
«You»: Some pretty notable failures, too...
Falerin: That comes with the territory, «You».
Falerin: They consider you a friend and a colleague even if you are no deity. That is an honor few, other than the Chosen, have.
Falerin: Only what I like to call the Order of The'Galin's champions comes close, and they include some rather... "interesting" individuals in their ranks.
«You»: The'Galin has an order that actually follows him?!
Falerin: Does that surprise you? It should not, knowing his true nature. I suspect it is they that hold the last orb, in fact.
    «You»: Last orb.
Falerin: The one you never had at the temple, yes.
«You»: I suspect I am going to learn something I may not want to contemplate...
«You»: But I can only handle a few such things a day, and the fact that Dhows is coming with us is a prime example.
«You»: I am sure his past is going to hold several more. We can discuss the Last Orb, or "Lorb," later.
    Falerin: Right, then...

    «He raises his staff.»

Falerin: Time to bring light to the Dark. One involuntary teleport, coming right up!

«A column of light goes up from the staff and a flash occurs. Erebus and a Bird of Prey have entered.»

    Erebus: What is this...
«You»: Looks like Erebus wasn't the only thing you teleported, Falerin!
Falerin: Teleporting can be tricky when objects are so close together. Take it down, «You»!
    «You»: But it's so cute!
Falerin: That is what concerns me; be wary.

      1 BATTLE: Bird of Prey
      Full Heal

Falerin: You tied our hands, Webb... it looks like Tholeon got caught in his own Webb. Poor Tholeon.
Falerin: So, as the TV psychiatrists on Terra are so fond of saying...
Falerin: Tell me about your childhood...

    «Scene fades.»

    Earlier...

«The Scene from The Breaking Point plays.»

    quote:

«Scene: Lolosia, where Shadowy clouds are seen to be gathering.»

Captain Rhubarb: That be a storm unlike any me eye has ever seen!

«Scene fades. New Scene: Darkovia, where Vampires and Werewolves are engaged in battle.»

Vampire: This is OUR territory, hairball!
Lycan: No, this land belongs to our king!

«Scene shifts to the sky above. The same Shadowy clouds gather.»

Lycan: Er, on second thought, you can have this land.
Vampire: No way, it's all yours!

«Scene pans upward. On the Moon, Erebus watches the Scene on Lore.»

Erebus: Home has come here of its own accord? Oh dear, but that would extend things a bit too far for tastes. I do miss it, but...
Erebus: What of Barrius? Is our little truce about to end, I wonder...
Erebus: When he brokered this peace with his Order, I thought he and I agreed this arrangement was better than Mutually Assured Destruction.
Erebus: Hehe, I think they were afraid I would not care...
Erebus: So maybe we changed our minds? Or has something else caused this incursion? I wonder, I really do. Something I do not know or understand. How refreshing.
Erebus: Limited as my younger brethren are, how do they live free? An open door? Ah well, your brother is home, chickadees. I too can behave like a door.
    Erebus: Interesting times indeed...

    Bizarre Flecks III!
    Part 4: The Journey Home!

Today's Event > Bizarre Flecks III! (Part 4 - War!)

«Scene: The Shadow Universe before the collapse of its Light and Darkness Realms.»

You may skip this cutscene at any time.

«You»: What is the earliest thing you remember?
Erebus: So you want to know about me? Truly? Such keen interest. I am flattered. Perhaps you are less a birdie then I thought.
    «You»: Than.
    Erebus: Hmm?
«You»: Than, not then. You are comparing, not speaking of a specific place in time.
Erebus: Moving right along... Perhaps you are actually a being of note. I have, in fact, it seems, understimated you.
«You»: About time you realized that...

    «Dr. Celestus enters.»

Dr. Celestus: The readings are clear. Elemental collapse has begun across the board. Prepare the counter-measures...

«Miss Lordover enters next to Dr. Celestus.»

Miss Lordover: But doctor... the antiphoton bomb will just accelerate the demise!
Dr. Celestus: That is the conventional wisdom, Miss Lordover. But you know as well as I that the collapse cannot be stopped. We need something to hold the world's most basic forces together.
Miss Lordover: But matter-antimatter collision leads to annihilation!
Dr. Celestus: No, it leads to their conversion to pure energy, and in this instance, a matter-antimatter collision may be just the thing to...
Erebus: You wish to learn from my past. You wish to find what I have done and from whence I have come so you may send me home.
Erebus: How foolish that is, with my home having just recently visited you. The direct route is now closed, as it should be.

    «Falerin's silhouette flashes.»

    Falerin: Closed?
Erebus: My home should remain sealed against your world, for even a moment's contact spreads the very cascade that led to complete elemental collapse.
Erebus: Something even I would never desire...
Erebus: Yet through no action of my own, those seals were recently broken. The damage has yet to be fully accounted for from that contact, but it will be profound.
Falerin: Ah, it all adds up, then. That is indeed a problem. I take it you plan on going home kicking and screaming.
«You»: He's from the Shadow Universe? That seems to match up with everything we've seen, especially with his hosting shadows in his army.
Erebus: One does not fight tooth and claw for their very being only to sit quietly in a cage...
Erebus: And I have always been a shadow, though more highly evolved from the ones you have met, having years to accumulate experience outside of my cage.
Erebus: You have no comprehension of what you would be releasing. Even you, Loremaster, have no idea.
Erebus: You wish to know what sending me away would release on your world? What that clever little monocled rodent nearly brought upon you?
Falerin: Our abjuration would require the seals to the Shadow Universe be breached...
Erebus: So you want to know about my childhood... so be it. I was conceived in fire and in blood; in light and in darkness. I was conceived in war and in death. This is my conception.
Erebus: I am leaving now. You run along and watch my childhood. My temporal immunity is stripped, but I will not stop you regardless.
Erebus: I want you to know why your situation is so hopeless. I am born of that world. I am of its very fabric. When that seal was violated, I was empowered.
Erebus: I can reach across even with the gates closed.
Erebus: I have learned from my experiences there. I have forced human beings to dwell there, also... and in the process we have all been changed.
Erebus: But we quickly grew to learn that these actions had consequences.
Erebus: It was agreed that none would open direct conduits to draw on the power there. The damage from such an even would be vast.
Erebus: So far, your encounters with me have been restricted by the ceasefire we made long ago. Even as you've done this, however, my armies have assembled.
Erebus: So will you finish what the SeekRat started, and make me even stronger by reopening the seals?
Erebus: I can clearly no longer be concerned about ceasfires with him or his Order. I forced your hand, you say? Well, now you have forced mine...

    «Erebus appears.»

Erebus: You wondered once how I could pull you into my mind. This mechanism, Ardendor, uses touches on memory more primal than time itself...
Erebus: You saw my graffito in the library, no doubt. Too bad there are so many wings to the Hall of Memories, as you might have seen it there as well. I have long had full access there.
    Falerin: How could...?
Erebus: How could I possibly mess with your avatar? I used your down time. Did you think I was idle? And since I can exist outside time I merely granted myself access before then as well...
Erebus: I have, in effect, had unfettered access to the Abode from its very conception, and I anticipated its uses even before Cenara came to Falerin.
Erebus: In fact, I have had access long to both of him. Even on Caelestia I can broach his halls. What do you say to that, wren?
    «You»: ...
Falerin: If you had somehow altered or changed Abode, I would know.
Erebus: I did not have to merely alter or change. I merely directly entered the Hall of my own volition. I understand the mechanism it used quite clearly, and I too can use it to my ends.
Erebus: Time to send you on a little journey home.
Erebus: Welcome to my mind, «You». Loremaster, good luck on navigating your way out...

    «Falerin and «You» appear.»

Falerin: I am not restricted, you know. We can just leave.
Erebus: I am aware, though I knwo that you would only return again. You will want to fight this war. It is the only way to truly know me.
Dr. Celestus: Authorization Celestus 892... um, who are you two?
«You»: Uh, hello. Don't worry, we're not here. We're just your over-excited imaginations.
    Miss Lordover: Authorization Lordover 298.
Miss Lordover: Antiphoton bomb released and on a collision course with the sun. Powers have mercy on us all...
Erebus: Notice they only mention two. They cannot perceive me.
Erebus: Mummy and Daddy cannot see what their hands have wrought... indirect though they may be...
Erebus: Hrm, but this whole thing seems somewhat unfair. Perhaps a bit of guidance might aid you in this moment.

«Erebus raises a hand and pulls Lord Barrius into the Scene.»

Miss Lordover: Another one. Who are you people?
Lord Barrius: I don't take kindly to being forcibly teleported anywhere. You know that, firstborn.
Erebus: But you need to be here for the unveiling. They will need your help in this. With events as they are, I am afraid I must call off our truce.
Lord Barrius: You realize what this means?
Erebus: Yes, but honestly, I rather hope that you succeed. However, you face a war on two fronts. One in my mind... and one on Lore.
Erebus: Only by surviving both can you understand how little hope I have.
Lord Barrius: I see. If you wish a war, then I am more than capable of providing it. «You», I leave the war effort in your hands. I shall keep him occupied in the meantime.
«You»: Are you insane? Erebus was able to defeat even Falerin! You can't stand against him alone!
Lord Barrius: You give me too little credit. He is a single shadow who doesn't know his place, and powerful though he may be, his power falls within my domain.
Lord Barrius: I can deal with him for the time being. Go quickly, and win this war. Once you have, we can finish this fight together.

«Falerin and «You» disappear as ElBhe appears at Lord Barrius's feet.»

Erebus: Oh, using the other one, are we?
Lord Barrius: It seems appropriate, given my situation, as you will soon learn.

    «Scene fades.»

Mysterious Stranger: So who and what are you? So close to the Brilhado stronghold... one of their necromantic efforts perhaps? No... you do not seem undead.
Mysterious Stranger: But you do not quite seem alive, either. Strange.

        «Erebus flashes and grows.»

Mysterious Stranger: My, how INVIGORATING. I feel I could take on Lore and bring the Doom, all by my lonesome right now.
Mysterious Stranger: Amazing! And yet... somehow wrong...

«A Darkness is behind Erebus. A Light destroys the Stranger. Erebus transforms into a green-haired priest.»

Dhows: I can speak! But... what is this? Not like me at all... well now. I am he... and he is me.
    • Eldron?
Some time later, on Caelestia outside Fair Harbor...

«Scene: The indicated locale. Falerin addresses Tholeon Webb, appearing in Eldron Larethian's robes but with the face of Dhows.»

Falerin: Tholeon Webb! What have you done?! Where is Eldron Larethian?
Tholeon Webb: Nowhere... hehehehe... and nowhen, yo uinsufferable twit. I have undone the elf's very being. Neverborn, he can never ascend.
Falerin: Eldron is immune to temproal manipulation!
Tholeon: Not when it changes the very foundations of Caelestia itself, dear Falerin. I suggest you check on your own portfolio, in fact. You may find it... quite surprising.
    • Lord Barrius vs. Erebus
«Lord Barrius and Erebus fight, only their silhouettes showing on a red background. Scene changes to reveal the two standing in the Hall of Memories.»

Erebus: You've gotten weaker, Barrius, or perhaps your sword has. Whenever you struck me with the other sword, it always seemed so much stronger...
Lord Barrius: You're not going to goad me into revealing my true strength. I do have to keep some secrets of my own, after all.
Erebus: True, but I'm curious as to why you would hold back at such a critical time.
Lord Barrius: I do not need to obliterate you, and indeed, doing so could cause serious repercussions. I have no desire to cause major damage to property or reality.
Lord Barrius: That is why Lodestar is not appropriate for this fight. What I need is defense, not offense.
        Erebus: You're being arrogant.
Lord Barrius: I'm being honest. Which is more than can be said for you. You have lied to the Lorians about your history on multiple occasions.
Lord Barrius: I expect it, though, since you probably don't even know the whole truth yourself.
        Erebus: What do you mean?
Lord Barrius: You were born of a piece of the Shadow Universe. Just a piece. Did you arrogantly presume yourself to have obtained all knowledge of how it came to be?
Lord Barrius: You were wrong. I know of these things because I lived there for many years. I communed with the universe itself.
        Erebus: It... it is conscious?
Lord Barrius: Not for a long time. But it remembers your betrayal quite well. In that respect, I should thank you, since your failure as a shadow is what produced the universe that exists today.
Lord Barrius: One that is much easier to keep tame.
Lord Barrius: You fled from your 'mother', and your home, seeking what? Purpose? Freedom? What rot.
Lord Barrius: You threw away your dignity in the ultimate act of cowardice, trying to feel as though you were somehow "special", that you deserved more.
Erebus: You would lecture me on whether purpose or freedom are goal enough? I wonder what your new allies would think of the means you employ...
Lord Barrius: Their opinions on that subject are irrelevant. I have not kept Lore in balance this long by playing nice, as you well know.
Lord Barrius: You are a failed experiment. A fool who doesn't even know his own history. And that is precisely why you will be defeated.
Erebus: Not by the likes of you, Barrius.
Lord Barrius: As I said, I don't need to defeat you. Only keep you occupied and soften you up for «You».
Lord Barrius: I think it's only fitting that one of those "little birdies", as you mockingly called them, should deal the final blow.
Lord Barrius: After all, what could be less dignified than for you to be banished by one you've underestimated for so long?

        «They move to fight again.»
    • HOM: Meet Dhows
«Scene: Luminovia, near the Temple of Light. Father Candela pulls up on a carriage drawn by two Lightzards.»

Father Candela: So this is the Lady's outpost at Luminovia. Here I am to take over as High Communicant. Lords, it seems strange. How is one such as I going to lead this church?

        «Erebus appears.»

Erebus: It is enough to give a birdy indigestion, is it not?
        Father Candela: Who are you?
Erebus: Let me save the Robin starveling the trouble, shall I?
Father Candela: What do you mean?
Erebus: You need not worry about how an unknown priest can lead the Lady's entire church. Let me handle that.
Father Candela: How can you do that?

«Erebus strikes Father Candela down with a dagger of shadow.»

        Erebus: By doing it myself.

«Candela rises. Erebus changes into the form of the Mysterious Stranger. Cagliari Lux exits the Temple and comes toward the Scene.»

Cagliari: Are you the new high communicant? We have been expecting you.
Erebus: I aaaammmmmmm! And you must be the head acolyte. Cagliari Lux, isn't it? I have heard so much about you...
Erebus: I am Father Dhows. You can call me Seth Cay. I have a feeling we are going to have a wonderful relationship...
    • HOM: Regeirk
Some time later, on an alternate Lore:

«Scene: Regeirk's Lore. Battleon burns in the background.»

Erebus: And with this, my corruption is complete. I have spread the stench of undeath that the other Lore's Brilhado incursion started.
Erebus: And I have finished my namesake's goal with the Brilhado in this world as well.
Erebus: I have brought my namesake's DOOM to young Kri... er... Regeirk more successfully than he ever could.

        «Regeirk enters.»

Erebus: Oh, there you are, dear Xitra. I fear I must be returning home. But I will leave a piece of myself, and some wisdom to guide you. I am everywhen and everywhere.
Xitra Regeirk: How shall I proceed?
Erebus: I see a time when your necromancy will rival the best of the secrets that the Brilhado and I have left here.
Erebus: A meteor born of uncreation can be utilized to empower your efforts as well. Seek to understand, young Xitra. I will guide, though from afar.
Xitra Regeirk: Where do I start?
Erebus: Not here. Too well established. But subjugate the rest, and this too will fall. Imagine the day, Xitra. You shall topple that tower and raise its armies as teeming undead!

        «Scene fades.»
    • HOM: The Epsilon
Several hundred years ago at the Galaxyfleet Academy...

«Scene: The indicated location. Erebus appears in front of Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote, Nel's analogue.»

Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: Who and what are you, creature?
Erebus: Mu. I am no creature. I am shadow. A transdimensional, transelemental shadow.
Erebus: The E are about to arise! I have seen to that.
Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: The E?
Erebus: Well, I thought of calling them "The Epsilon", given I did manipulate Network technology in my experiment in forced analog creation...
Erebus: They needed a boost, you see; something to differentiate them strongly.
        Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: ?
Erebus: They will not know me... of course, or my kind. Cannot have that.
Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: And why is that?
Erebus: Even though the parts of the many E I manipulated and used were so different, if they could sense me at all, their primes might come and take them away.
Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: What are you saying?
Erebus: But see, the experiment shows it can be done and better. In time.
Erebus: Oh, yes... and if there were two of you, it would still not be Data.
        Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: What?

        «Erebus disappears.»

Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: He has left, Captain Ap'cor.

        «Captain Ap'cor, Aelthai's analogue, enters.»

Captain Ap'cor: Can you go after him?
Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: No, but I sent the autonomous tracking link to follow him across the barrier. That should permanently create an affinity between our frames of reference.
Captain Ap'cor: And... should he return?
Lt. Cmdr. Annech Dote: We have readings. If ever he or his kind return this way, we will know.

        «Scene fades.»

    quote:

    Journey Back Home: 100% Dialogue
    spoiler:

    «After 100% of all mobs were defeated...»

    «Scene: Hall of Memories»
      4 BATTLES
Full Heal after battles #2 and #4
Erebus: That is a cheep trick, Barrius.
Lord Barrius: And that is a terrible pun, firstborn. You've been taking lessons from ElBhe, haven't you?
Erebus: Bah, so you were keeping secrets from me after all.... despite such similar appearances, your two swords are nothing alike.
Lord Barrius: On the contrary, siblings always have some things in common. But you are right.... Eventide does not agree with her sister as to how fights should be handled. She prefers a defensive approach.
Lord Barrius: But given how most foes can't withstand much more than a few strokes of Lodestar's fire, it's rare that I have to even draw Eventide, much less use it. You should be honored.
Erebus: And you've managed to keep this hidden from me all this time because you've never had to use that blade. I can't believe I fell for something so simple, so obvious.
Lord Barrius: Even the best tactician can make a mistake with enough hubris. You defeated Falerin, so you naturally assumed you could defeat me, and indeed all of Lore, without any difficulty.
Lord Barrius: And that is precisely why you'll be going home very shortly.

    «You enter the scene.»

«You»: We've driven back the last of them!
Lord Barrius: Right on time. Your armies are broken, and you have been weakened. It's time to go home, firstborn.

«Lord Barrius sheathes Eventide, and ElBhe disappears from the scene.»

Lord Barrius: «You», I can seal him away within the shadow universe, but it will take time. You will need to keep him occupied until I have made the preparations.
    «You»: But....
Lord Barrius: Don't doubt yourself. You have stood down deity-strength enemies before. And the firstborn has been sufficiently weakened.
Erebus: You're making a mistake, you know....
Lord Barrius: How amusing. Before this war begun, you couldn't stop talking about how you hoped we would succeed. Something about avoiding mutually assured destruction, as I recall?
Lord Barrius: Yet now that you're on the verge of defeat.... you plead for your well-being. How pitiful. You've shed even your pride, now.
Erebus: You know as well as I what my home is like, and why I sought to leave. Of course I would do anything to avoid being put back in my cage.
Lord Barrius: And yet all this time, your goal has always been to bring home here.
Lord Barrius: Darkovia owes its present state to you, for the same reasons that the Middle Isles are now in such danger as a result of the SeekRat.
Lord Barrius: I had thought that you had learned. But you will never learn, it seems. There is only one appropriate place for you.... in your mother's custody.
Erebus: I refuse to allow this!
«You»: I think that's my cue. Erebus, I'm about to send you crying home to mommy!
      1 BATTLE
      Erebus
      Full Heal
«After you successfully defeat Erebus, swirls of shadow circle Erebus and they shackle various parts of his body.»

Erebus: Are you truly so foolish as to do this? You face future threats far more grave than I.
Erebus: The rat will do much worse, in time. There is a hidden threat growing in the lands he's created, as well.
Erebus: And then there's all of those beasts all running about, gathering the orbs.... yet you waste such effort on dealing with me?
Lord Barrius: Other threats can be dealt with, in time. But yours is a threat that can no longer wait. And if you wish to blame anyone for your priority status, then blame yourself.
Erebus: So be it. I spoke truly earlier, though you may have believe it not. I am glad you have won. The fight is over.
Erebus: Home again, home again, jiggity jig....

«Erebus is transported back to the Shadow Realm in a cloud of shadows. Falerin enters.»

«You»: That is one odd... duck....
    Falerin: *groan*
Falerin: You do realize, of course, that it is only a matter of time, perhaps very little time, before he recoups himself enough to return here.
Falerin: You may underestimate him as much as he does you. He has grown and changed since he became involved in the many worlds he has messed with.
Lord Barrius: It will be later rather than sooner. «You» gave me ample time to construct an elaborate set of barricades and seals.
Lord Barrius: I have dropped him into the deepest plane of the shadow universe. It will take him time to claw his way back out of that prison.
Lord Barrius: And by then, Lore will be adequately prepared for him. I would not worry about him for the time being.
Lord Barrius: He himself pointed out that we have more pressing and urgent concerns in the near future.
Lord Barrius: And stronger though he may be, Falerin, you and I both know that he is a nuisance compared to the dormant threat lying within that same plane. His mother.....
Falerin: And one takes it by mother, you do not refer to the female he showed us at the outset? I was uncertain said force still existed.
Falerin: I will take your word that it does. You are better informed than I on that point.
    «You»: Falerin...
Falerin: Though it is I suppose possible his mother and the mummy he showed us are related in some way.
Falerin: It is hard to imagine what living through such a thing might do... if possible at all.... no. Of course it would not be.
    «You»: Loremaster...
    Falerin: I digress...
    «You»: Yes. You do.
Falerin: Of course you are right. But the concern of your universe itself is not all. He may have backdoors prepared if that Rat can bring down seals between the universes.
Falerin: It is quite conceivable that.... no, it does not bear thinking about....
«You»: Loremaster, you are off on a wild tangent again...
Falerin: Not as much as you might think. More like a cosecant.
Falerin: Still Barrius, his long ties to Darkovia do concern me. And the actions he has started there will continue even in his absence.
Falerin: This buys us time to be sure, but I cannot see the Darkovians doing anything differently.
Falerin: Donovan or Cenara are unlikely to change their plans regardless. They have learned from their encounters with him, however.
Lord Barrius: Which will only further enable his defeat when he returns, strengthened or not.
Falerin: I have learned where that being is concerned that little is certain. To know him is not to understand him. Even you, Barrius, I do not think can be said to understand that being...
    «You»: B... e, Lord Barrius...
Lord Barrius: ....good, you thought better of it. Yes?
«You»: You have some explaining to do.
Lord Barrius: Yes, it's time you got the full story. You've proven yourself deserving of that much. It is a long story though, so you may want to take a seat.

    «Scene: Recollection, shadow universe»

Lord Barrius: The shadow universe began with elemental collapse. The planes of darkness and light collapsed in on each other, destroying the tangible universe.
Lord Barrius: While some claim that the reason is not known, its primary cause can be traced to a blurring between the boundaries of each elemental plane.
Lord Barrius: This universe was very advanced in using hybrid elemental magics, and used them to excess.... the lines between elements began to blur, and eventually it gave in altogether.

«A bolt of shadow strikes the universe. The stars fade away, and the universe begins to collapse, losing much of its luminosity.»

Lord Barrius: Efforts were made to stop the collapse, but they ultimately failed. They did not understand the reason for the collapse and, thus, could not stop it from happening.
Lord Barrius: Some attempted to flee the dying universe, but only a scant few succeeded, most of which crossed over into our Lore.
Lord Barrius: The universe's collapse destroyed everything. Planets, stars, galaxies, even the gods. Everything was blended together into a hybrid mix of Light and Darkness.
«You»: Why those two elements specifically?
Lord Barrius: That much I can't say. I can say that other universes experienced the same collapse, though with different elements, so perhaps it was some manner of multiversal balance.
Lord Barrius: At any rate, with the original universe wiped out, it risked being pruned from reality entirely unless it could reform itself in some construct or form.

«A shadowy flame looms over the dying universe and a silhouette of Erebus appears.»

Lord Barrius: So this primordial shadow, a maelstrom of countless lives of mortals and gods blended together into a massless, shapeless "thing" ....became a sentient entity.
Lord Barrius: There are many names for it, but you might call it.....
    «You»: Erebus's mother?
Lord Barrius: Precisely. And he was its first creation, its firstborn. But he was a model that the universe struggled to reproduce. It could not perfect the formula, so it abandoned this method of creation.
Lord Barrius: Instead, it looked to fool reality, to mirror another universe and "copy" from it. But it needed a good mirror....
Lord Barrius: and unfortunately, it chose ours, most likely due to the trail left behind those "escapees" i mentioned earlier.

«The scene fades away and switches to the lands of the shadow universe, copied from Lore. Shadow creatures roam the gloomy area.»

Lord Barrius: And so a copycat was born. But to prevent the entire universe from being a mere copycat and to maintain some semblance of control, the universe was divided into many layers.
Lord Barrius: The most simplistic level sought to copy ours, creating the shadow creatures you have seen in battle. This is the universe most people see and the ones which the gates tap into.
Lord Barrius: But being a mirror, this layer of the universe was distinctly lacking in free will. Shadow creatures were born to mime births in Lore, and died with their Lorian counterparts as well.
Lord Barrius: They grew stronger or weaker by their counterpart's will, not their own. And most shadow creatures resent this, and resent their "masters" as a result.
«You»: What about ElBhe? He seems to have more than enough "free will" to go around....
Lord Barrius: Another story for another time. Suffice it for the time being that he and I are both "special cases", and other exist as well, obviously.
Lord Barrius: Some manage to escape the so-called "puppet layer" and claw their way deeper into the universe, thereby growing stronger.
Lord Barrius: But that isn't important at present. What's important right now is what follows.

    «Erebus enters the scene.»

Lord Barrius: The one you call Erebus became disgruntled with this creation. He longed for the feeling of his home, the place he had been born into.... not the puppet layer he was forced to reside in.

«The scene fades away and switches back to the Hall of Memories.»

Lord Barrius: So he escaped. He tore open a hole in the universe and escaped to our Lore. There he met this universe's closest analog and stole his body, to keep himself from dying.
Lord Barrius: And he has been causing.... difficulties.... in our universe ever since.
Falerin: He is responsible for many atrocities throughout Lore and Caelestia, to name only a few. I believe he also had something to do with your parents....
    Lord Barrius: ....quite.
ElBhe: Did someone mention his parents? Oh gods, he always gets broody when someone does that.

    «ElBhe returns to the scene.»

«You»: ElBhe, where have you been?
ElBhe: Well I was just going to grab a quick snack from Krovesport, but the people there aren't very tasty.
ElBhe: Then my kitty sense kicked in and told me that you guys were in the middle of a long and boring exposition, so I decided to show up.
ElBhe: Nobody likes long boring talky scenes, you guys.
Lord Barrius & Falerin (in unison): ....
ElBhe: So you sent Dhows crying back to mommy, eh?
Lord Barrius: For the time being. It won't last, but he's in one of the deeper layers of the universe.
Lord Barrius: Even once he's escaped his bindings, he might spend some time down there, enjoying the freedom he never had while on the surface layer.
ElBhe: But if you placed him too deeply, isn't there a risk that he might wake up Mother?
Lord Barrius: ....the thought occurred to me, but it seems unlikely that even he is that crazy. He knows full well what trouble that would bring.
Lord Barrius: He may just end up destroying himself doing so, which I imagine is not high on his list of evil schemes.
Lord Barrius: Right now, we should prepare instead for the warnings he gave us. He is right about the Middle Isles.... a strange sensation has been growing there recently. A presence of sorts that should not be there.
Falerin: There is reason to be concerned about the growing threats of the Truphma and the beasts, as well. Fortunately, with my Loremaster title now conferred proper, my schedule has just cleared up.
«You»: What should we do, then?
Lord Barrius: For the time being, nothing but prepare for the worst. When these problems arise, we will be ready.
ElBhe: Good. Let's get out of here, my tummy's still rumbly.
«You», Lord Barrius & Falerin (in unison): ....

    Bizarre Flecks: Epilogue

«Lore is shown from space. The scene zooms downward toward Lore.»

«Scene: Some Other Lore, an alternate point in an alternate timeline»

    «You see nothing but blackness.»

Frostscythe: You want to give me advice? You? Really?

    «There's a short pause.»

Frostscythe: Why would I listen to anything you had to say?

«The scene fades in and begins to pan leftwards. Outside the city of Falconreach, the silhouette of the Mysterious Stranger and Frostscythe can be seen...»

Mysterious Str.: Well of course you could always continue as you have...
Mysterious Str.: How is that working for you exactly? Any progress lately?
Frostscythe: I do not need your help! I have things well in hand!
Mysterious Str.: Do you really? Because it looks more to me as if you have been handed your posterior.

«Frostscythe turns and faces away from the Mysterious Stranger.»

    Frostscythe: ...
Mysterious Str.: Time and again the DragonRiders and their allies have played you the fool...

    «Frostscythe looks up a little.»

Frostscythe: As if you have done better?! Ha! Soon, and all who cross me shall meet their doom.
Mysterious Str.: Well then, Frostscythe, that is precisely why you DO need me. Heheheh...
    Frostscythe: Oh?
Mysterious Str.: Of course. After all, I am the MASTER of DOOM.

«A dark glow surrounds the Mysterious Stranger.»

    Mysterious Str.: ...

    «The glow vanishes.»

Mysterious Str.: Oh my... isn't that interesting... news from the other side...

«Frostscythe turns to face the Mysterious Stranger.»

Frostscythe: What is it? What other side?

«The scene zooms in closer on the two silhouettes.»

Mysterious Str.: Oh, another world similar to this in so many ways.
Mysterious Str.: Though, I dare say, you would find this place far less hospitable in their timeline.
Mysterious Str.: That is, of course, unless you are very fond of cratered wastes.... and war-torn rubble... some are, you know...
    Frostscythe: You are babbling.
Mysterious Str.: Gone, is he? Oh, and, given his nature, the time differential is a bit shorted out... How nice is that... it means I can get in...
Frostscythe: What? What do you mean? And what has this to do with me?

«The scene zooms in on the Mysterious Stranger. All that can be seen in the darkness, is his black robe. His face remains hidden.»

    Mysterious Str.: Nothing at all.
Mysterious Str.: A vacancy at long last... how wonderful. We will need to set things right...
Frostscythe: What are you going on about...

«The Mysterious Stranger turns his head slightly to speak to Frostscythe.»

Mysterious Str.: This conversation will have to wait.

«The scene zooms back out, and the two silhouettes can once again be seen against the backdrop of Falconreach.»

Mysterious Str.: I have unfinished business elsewhere... Run along, Dragonmaster.
Frostscythe: Why you insufferable... you called me!

«The scene zooms in again on the Mysterious Stranger.»

Mysterious Str.: I did... and now I am telling you get lost too... hehehe...

    «The scene zooms back out.»

Frostscythe: I should kill you where you stand.
Mysterious Str.: Do you think you would be any more successful at that, Frostscythe?

«Frostscythe pauses, then faces toward Falconreach in the distance.»

Mysterious Str.: You want to know what has me so worked up? Fine.
Mysterious Str.: Imagine an usurper took your brother's appearance, killed him, and then ran around pretending to be you... er him...
Frostscythe: I would kill him on the spot.
Mysterious Str.: Would you? No doubt you would. But suppose that, that was, for many complicated reasons, not an option.
Mysterious Str.: No suppose you learned that he had left...

«Frostscythe raises his arm in injustice.»

Frostscythe: I would return at once and make everyone know it was I that was the true Frostscythe.
Mysterious Str.: Such limited vision. No, he could return at any moment...

«Frostscythe puts his arm back down.»

Mysterious Str.: But it is a doorway opened to me... and to others...

    «The scene zooms further out.»

Mysterious Str.: A doorway opened indeed. One through which I can prepare the ingredients for my revenge.
    Frostscythe: Psh...
Mysterious Str.: It may take a 1000 years, or more even... I am exceedingly patient...

«Frostscythe turns and faces away from the Mysterious Stranger.»

    Frostscythe: You are boring me...
Mysterious Str.: So leave. I already asked you to go... you cramp my style.

«Frostscythe turns around and faces the Mysterious Stranger.»

Frostscythe: Fine... do not bother me again with your pointless drivel.

    «Frostscythe takes a step forward.»

Frostscythe: I will not be so forgiving of being disrupted again.

«Frostscythe continues onward, down the hill and off the scene.»

Mysterious Str.: You will almost certainly return, shade...
Mysterious Str.: ...And when you do I will have my eye on you. A time is coming... maybe not soon... but coming nonetheless...

«The scene zooms in on the Mysterious Stranger.»

Mysterious Str.: You will have your reckoning... even if your other Lore has to die to bring it. HEHEHEH.

«The Mysterious Stranger fades into the shadows and disappears in a burst of darkness, as the screen fades to black...»

    Chessmaster Saga: Return to Paxia!

    Battleon > Today's Event

Having successfully retrieved the Energy Orb from the Bennuju Wetlands, you find yourself returning to Kalanyr and company for the most 'thrilling' point of any mission... the debriefing, which you hope will hold the answers you seek.

  • «Scene: Debrief»

«You»: ...and then if ran off while we were fighting its flunkies.
Zephyros: You forgot to cage it?
Radagast: ...Well, funny story about that... you see... um... hmm... can you give me a minute to think up an excuse?
    ....
Radagast: ...Wait.... wait... ok, I need another minute.
Kalanyr: ....Moving along, what did you learn before it ran off?
«You»: All it said was something about remaking the world.
Aelthai: What about its reaction to the orb?
«You»: It didn't let me ask about-
Radagast: Magical resonance between the orb and beast, the energies feed off each other and increase until the elemental charge manifests itself in the local environment.
«You»: ...Alright, HOW did you figure that out?
Radagast: It's the same principle as the platypulse's feedback loop, only it is an external resonance rather than an internal one... and believe me, I know that loop *very* well. *shudder*
«You»: So what you're saying is that these things are basically linked to the orbs?
    Radagast: Something like that, yeah.
Radagast: Their magical signatures are similar enough to be naturally drawn together, effectively enhancing the elemental charge where the two energies come together.
Radagast: Needless to say, the effect gets stronger as the two bodies near one another, eventually reaching a point that the elemental charge manifests in its simplest form.
«You»: ...Who are you and what have you done with Radagast???
Kalanyr: Well, that's a working hypothesis at least, and explains the phenomena we've heard about so far.
«You»: What about what happened to Jacqu- Aw zard spit! I forgot all about him! Sorrygottago!
  • Poof!

«...and you dash off, leaving only a puff of smoke in your trail.»

Zephyros: Huh, didn't even wait for an answer.
Aelthai: Did «You» forget we can teleport people?
    Kalanyr: It would appear so.

    «Scene: Paxia, meeting Jacques»

Jacques: «You». My dear FRIEND. So good of you to come. I was beginning to worry that you'd forgotten about me.
    «You»: I'm sorry, Jacques, I was-
Jacques: I'm glad you're here though, I don't know who else I can trust these days. Ever since... that war, I've been plagued with nightmares about Paxia's demise.
    «You»: Demise? But-
Jacques: Figuratively, of course. Paxia may not be safe yet, but it's still here. We must be CONSTANTLY vigilant though if it is to survive.
Jacques: Enemies can be anywhere, come any time. The Beasts might come back. I can't let Paxia fall. I can't. I can't.
    «You»: Jacques? Are you alright?
Jacques: ALRIGHT??? Yes, I'm fine. Just a little tired. Had some trouble sleeping. Bad dreams. Had planned to check on Ai-Pang today, haven't patrolled that part of the island in a while.
«You»: Why don't you just let me worry about that?
Jacques: No no, too dangerous. I can't let you go alone. What if there's trouble?
«You»: IF there's trouble, I can handle it. Come on, Jacques, I do this for a living, and I'm very good at my job. You know that about me.
Jacques: Yes, yes you're right. I'm sorry, I just-
«You»: You're tired. Lie down and get some sleep. I'll handle your rounds today.
Jacques: Alright, you win. Just make sure to check on Dynami and the old clan ruins as well. If there's still time after that, check Nocturu, then maybe Glacius... and Geoto... and the Trophy Room...

    «You»: I stand corrected.

«The scene pans up to show the Thunder Stalker confronting Dr. Ai-pang near the Almost-Black-Hole.»

Thunder Stalker: Yes, you've certainly sated my curiousity, but I'm afraid I can't let you go just yet.

«You enter the scene and Dr. Ai-pang hides behind you.»

Thunder Stalker: Oh be still my heart, «You» appears to 'save the day'!
    «You»: YOU!?
Thunder Stalker: Why yes, I am me. How nice of you to notice. Sorry though, I only have time for one dance.

Thunder Stalker: Sounds fun, but I think my chaperone might disagree.

«The Luminous Wyrm enters the scene.»

Luminous Wyrm: Does your incompetence know no bounds? This is the second time you've lost to this would-be 'hero'! Retreat.
Thunder Stalker: Aw, but I hate to leave on such a sour-
Luminous Wyrm: I SAID LEAVE! Go, or I'll make you wish I was allowed to kill you!
Thunder Stalker: ...Fine, have it your way. I'll see you later «You».

    «The Thunder Stalker bolts away.»

Luminous Wyrm: So you're the one who has been stirring up so much trouble.
    «You»: What can I say? It's a gift.
Luminous Wyrm: Indeed? Well I think a little 're-gifting' is in order then.

«The Luminous Wyrm flings a health potion onto the ground.»

    «You»: ...What's this?
Luminous Wyrm: Your gift. It'll take the pain of your last fight away. Go on, take it. I want to see you stand back up so I can knock you down!

      Leave it!
«You»: Save it. I'm standing now, and when this is over I will still be standing.
«You»: I don't need your charity, I am «You», hero of Battleon, and I will defeat you!

        Dialogue continues below.
«If you were defeated by the Luminous Wyrm...»

Luminous Wyrm: Farewell, "hero". Hope for your own sake that we do not meet again.

«The Luminous Wyrm leaves the scene.»

Dr. Ai-Pang: Whew. I didn't think I'd get out of that alive.
    «You»: What did they want?
Dr. Ai-Pang: I don't know. They just kept asking questions.
    «You»: About?
Dr. Ai-Pang: My work, mostly. They asked about the Almost-Black-Hole, how I contained it, what it was capable of... you know, under other circumstances their interest would actually have been flattering.
Dr. Ai-Pang: I think that bright one asked something about "Paxia's would-be defender" too.
«You»: Wait, they asked about Jacques?
Dr. Ai-Pang: Yep. Didn't seem too fond of him either.

    «Scene: Battleon»

«Fred enters the scene, this time carrying sacks of equipment on him.»

Fred: Whew! That was fun! I see why you like adventuring so much!

«You enter the scene, still carrying some sacks of equipment.»

«You»: Thank goodness that's over! I've never been so exhausted!
    Fred: And?
«You»: And now I really do understand why you were so upset.
Fred: And I suppose I can see why you focus so much on adventuring. It's kinda fun!
    ???: I hate to interrupt....

    «The TubThumper enters the scene.»

TubThumper: ....but it's finally time to exact my revenge!
TubThumper: You made a fool out of me so long ago! I haven't forgotten you, «You»! I've waited quietly for my chance, and now....
    «You»: ....who are you, again?
TubThumper: How DARE you forget who I am! I am the grand and glorious herd boss, Tub....
«You»: I'm sorry, it's just that when you beat so many lame villains, it's hard to keep track.
«You»: Anyways, can you exact your revenge later? I'm kinda tired.
TubThumper: That's the point! I've been silently planning my revenge for so....
«You»: Oh, I see. Had to wait until I was too exhausted to fight back because you're afraid I'll kick your big fat butt again.
    TubThumper: GRRAAAAH! Stop interrupting....
«You»: Hey, listen. I'd love to give you another beating, but we're having a conversation here, so....
    TubThumper: GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Minions, attack!

«You»: *huff* No problem....say, can we take a short break before you get your revenge?
    TubThumper: NO!
Fred: Listen, «You», you can't take him alone. Not in your condition.
    «You»: Yeah.... but perhaps together....
TubThumper: You and your burro can't possibly beat me!
Fred: Yes we can! With the power of teamwork and friendship!
«You»: ....that sounds like a bad kid's show catchphrase.
Fred: Just get on my back already.

«You ride on Fred, and your armor changes to the Burro Rider. You cannot switch out of the armor. However, all other options (weapons, spells, etc.) are unlocked.»

      TubThumper

      Full Heal
TubThumper: GRAAAAAAAH! If not for that meddling burro, I'd have my revenge.
Fred: You're doing it wrong. You meant to say:
Fred: And I would've gotten away with it, if not for that meddling «You» and his mangy burro!
TubThumper: ....yes, well.... I'll get you next time, «You»!

    «The TubThumper leaves the scene.»

    «You»: We did it, Fred!
    Fred: Yes, together!
«You»: Maybe we should team up more often.
Fred: Yes, well, now that you mention it, you *do* owe me quite a lot of money for all the time I've carried your stuff around....
Fred: Perhaps, for the right price, I could be persuaded to do some more adventuring....
    «You»: ....yeah, about that....

This is a very long post.

Monster encounters begin from 34 and increase by 4 per level. It caps off at 70.

I understand that the SS / NH class mission layout is essentially the same, just with different dialogue, but I have decided to split them up to their respective class for ease of reading.

    ShadowSlayer / NightHunter

Travel Map » Darkovia Forest » ShadowSlayers & NightHunters

«You can skip the cutscene below at anytime.»

In the distant past the forest known as Luminovia lived in peace and tranquility. But evil came to the forest. A great shadow cast it's pall over Luminovia and plunged the land into darkness. Now known as Darkovia, from that umbral power, within the forest there arost the legend of "The Shadow."

It remains unclear if this "shadow" is a solitary force or many, though Falerin, Loremaster of the Isle de Oriens has made the claim that "The Shadow" is indeed, at least in part, "a shadow" in the proper sense of the term.

The order of Vampire Slayers rose as an answer to the darkness that hung over the world. Their order sought to fight the undeath that arose, assuming, only partially correctly, that the undeath was the nexus for the evil of that realm.

Among their number, E, or Edward as his family knew him, was a skilled and singular warrior and he turned his own deeply personal experience with the undead to the task.

When the Devourer came to Lore, the face of Darkovia was changed forever. While not ravaged as clearly as the scar of Granemor, the change was no less complete...
For in the aftermath of those events, E was forsaken, his mantle as the Avatar of Death passed along to his sister Cenara, and the dracopyre Nightbane was killed. There was a sudden power vacuum in the already fragile Darkovian political arena.

Balius, as Nightbane used to be known in his mortal form, was not yet done being used for fell purposes, however. His stepson Donovan utilized his blood in a dark ritual to reinvigorate himself as the dracopyre Nightreign.
In the process, however, his sister, Balius' daughter, Cenara, was also infected with the Dracopyre curse, as the dracopyre Gracefang. Because of this transformation she, too, was nearly forsaken as Edward was. The moglin Dewlok's healing magic prevented her soul from being torn away, but the fate of the Avatar of Death was left unknown.

Faced with uncertainties about her past, and a role that she now apparently contradicted in the most serious of ways, Cenara took it upon herself to redefine her calling. Where the past has sought to fight a small fragment of "The Shadows" forces, Cenara now seeks to put the Shadow itself on the run.

Seeking clarity, Cenara turned to Falerin and the Hall of Memories to find answers. As the past of Darkovia has been illuminated by the Hall of Memories, it has become clear that at least one aspect of this shadow is the being who was once known as Father Seth Cay Dhows... a name, that like much of his history, contains both the truth and a lie.

Falerin was forced to allow his physical form to be slain by Dhows, in order to prevent a potential conflict between the Caelestian and Lorian pantheons. Changed in the process, Falerin too has set himself on Dhows' defeat, but in far more subtle ways. The Hall of Memories has been opened to Donovan as well, and Donovan has been quick to utilize this to his advantage gaining information not only on the distant past of Darkovia, but also on Cenara and E's plan to raise an army of "Shadowslayers."

Donovan himself has reason to hate Dhows and the Shadow that hangs over Darkovia, and he too has declared Dhows an enemy. Donovan, however, is far more willing to use the tools of the enemy against itself, and so the Night Hunters were born.

...which brings us to you. Are you a noble Shadowslayer? A fell Night Hunter? Someone who plays both sides? Only time and your actions will tell....

  • Brave the Dark

  • Prerequisites: Character Level 30, Level 10 Rogue, Level 10 Scholar

«If you do not fulfill the above requirements, a scroll appears with the following message.»

You must be at least level 30, and a fully trained (level 10) Rogue and Scholar, to train with Cenara or Donovan. Please continue adventuring elsewhere and return when you've earned enough experience!
  • Back to Town

«Once you fulfill the prerequisites, if you are neither a Shadowslayer nor NightHunter yet, you receive the follow message.»

The Dracopyric siblings, Cenara and Donovan, are training a new generation of warriors to fight for peace in Darkovia. With whom will you choose to ally yourself: Gracefang’s Shadowslayers, or Nightreign’s Nighthunters?
  • What is a Shadowslayer?
  • What is a NightHunter?
  • Back to Town

    What is a Shadowslayer?
The Shadowslayers serve under Cenara and see to grow their powers in order to one day free Darkovia and the world from the ancient “Shadow” that oppresses it! To do this, they employ a variety of holy weaponry that can be used to smite all sorts of threats to Darkovia!
  • Become a Shadowslayer!
  • Maybe later…

    What is a NightHunter?
The Nighthunters are a deadly force led by Donovan which hopes to free Darkovia of “The Shadow” and his minions… so as to gather them solidly under Donovan’s rule. Nighthunters embrace the darkness of Darkovia and employ auras and animalistic tactics to brutalize and terrorize their foes!
  • Become a Nighthunter!
  • Maybe later…

«Both classes share a common “homepage”, which has the following options.»

  • Continue Training!
  • E’s Fate…
  • Class Shop!
  • Defect to Shadowslayer’s/Nighthunter’s side!
      Defect to Shadowslayer’s side!
Cenara: We will always welcome those who wish to join our cause. However, our ways are very different from Donovan’s Nighthunters. You will have to train with us and earn you rank as a Shadowslayer.

      Defect to Nighthunter’s side!
Donovan: So… you wish to fight at my side, and unify Darkovia. However, our techniques are very different from Cenara’s Shadowslayers…
Donovan: And besides, I’m not sure how much you are to be trusted, yet. You will have to train with us and earn your rank as a Nighthunter.

Regardless of which side you’re defecting to
If you wish to switch sides from Nighthunter (Shadowslayer) to Shadowslayer (Nighthunter), you will lose all of your training! Your class level will be reset to 0!

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO RESET YOUR CLASS LEVEL?
    • Become a Shadowslayer/Nighthunter!
    • Maybe later…

Choosing to defect to either side will begin their respective level 1 missions.
  • Leave Darkovia!
    Shadowslayer – Level 1

Cenara: So, you wish to join the ranks of the Shadowslayers? We need all the help we can get in the fight to keep the peace in Darkovia and against enemies like Dhows.
Cenara: We are the first to begin an important hunt: to find a way to slay the ultimate shadow… that is why we are the Shadowslayers.
Cenara: Donovan’s Nighthunters seek the same ends as we do… but for very different reasons. They want to help unite Darkovia under his rule. That must not happen!
Cenara: Even worse, the Darkovian “truce” is not holding together well. Skirmishes still occur and we need to keep things peaceful until Dhows is no longer a threat.

«Cenara fades away from the scene.»

    Shadowslayer
Cenara has charged you with a quest to find and drive off a few bands of vampires and werewolves who have been rampaging through the countryside, attacking each other and violating the tenuous truce between their people. Which group will you pursue first?

      2 BATTLES – Vampire Warrior (34)

      Quest: Night 2

      Quest: Night 1
Dear Journal, the rogue lycans are proving elusive, though I can hear their howls all around me. Still, I think I am close to finding their den.

      2 BATTLES

      Quest: Night 2

Cenara: You’ve done it! Good job. They were starting to increase sub-racial tensions in a time when Dhows is still our biggest concern. This should help tone things back down.
Cenara: As a reward for your service, I hereby enstate you as a Shadowslayer! The first skill you will learn is a way to increase your attacking power against vampires, werewolves, and the like.
Cenara: Also, I have some weapons that might aid you in your fight against any future encounters with werewolves or vampires, or other “native wildlife” in Darkovia.

Congratulations! You’ve become a Level 1 Shadowslayer, and you’ve learned a new ability: Slayer’s Strike! This skill increases the power of your damaging attacks against the denizens of Darkovia.

    Shadowslayer – Level 4

Cenara: Just as we finished with the last group, another force is preparing itself for battle. We need to get rid of every camp we can find.
Cenara: I think you’re ready… I’m giving you access to some very special holy weapons. They can have devastating effects against the undead if used right.
Cenara: Unfortunately they can only be used by a Guardian, but if you are one, they should help you eliminate this group and bring us a step closer to a Darkovia free of Dhows!

«Cenara fades away from the scene. Accepting this mission grants you a temporary +1 level boost to your Shadowslayer Class, allowing Guardians to use the class’ level 4 skill for this mission, Throw Weapon.»

Cenara: You did a great job! But it seems that your actions have drawn some unwanted attention.

Congratulations! You’ve become a Level 4 Shadowslayer, and you’ve learned a new ability: Throw Weapon! Your armory has expanded to include specially blessed weapons!

Cenara: This next mission is critical. Scouts have reported that a significant group of Dhows’ forces are on the move!
Cenara: I want you to lead a group of Shadowslayers into the area to ambush them. If you can find their general, the rest should scatter.
Cenara: I’m granting you access to a top-secret weapon for this mission: a grenade that has vast damage potential. It should help you blast through the enemy ranks to reach the general!

      Undead Dragon (66)

Cenara: Darkovia is counting on you!

Congratulations! You’ve become a Level 9 Shadowslayer, and you’ve learned a new ability: Hallowed Grenade! Count to three and throw this fearsome ordnance!

    Shadowslayer – Level 10

Cenara: It’s time to take the fight to Dhows himself!
Cenara: We’ve heard whispers that he is hiding in a small ruin deep within the Darkovian forests, no doubt preparing for some grand scheme.
Cenara: We need to beat him to the punch. I’m sending you and every other Shadowslayer we can muster for this mission.
Cenara: Donovan and his Nighthunters have agreed to work with us for this operation, if only because we share a mutual enemy… but keep your eye on him!

«Cenara fades away from the scene.»

The Shadowslayers and Nighthunters join forces, marching their small army to the edges of the Darkovian ruins…
  • Join the Hunt! – Continues dialogue below
  • Leave Darkovia! – You return to Cenara

«The scene shows a crumbling ruin standing among the forests of Darkovia. You, Cenara and Donovan enter the scene on a hill nearby, ready to launch the assault.»

    Cenara: All forces, ATTACK!

«A short cutscene shows a group of Shadowslayers and Nighthunters charging towards the Dhows’ fortress, destroying all Darkovian monsters that stand in the way.»

Shadowslayer: We’re pushing them back! Victory will be ours!
    Nighthunter: Wait, what are THOSE?

«Dhows’ shadow mobs (a dragon and ghoul) enter the scene. The dragon exhales a choking black smoke that blinds the Shadowslayer. Nighthunters fade themselves into the background to avoid the worst of the fumes.»

Shadowslayer: My eyes! The shields do nothing!

«The Shadowslayer falls and the scene switches back to you, Cenara and Donovan atop the hill.»

«You»: Shadow creatures?! What are they doing here?
Cenara: What-- what are they? They’re nothing like the things Dhows created here!
«You»: Whatever infection originally created the lycans, they’re part of Lore. These creatures are from the shadow universe…
«You»: They may not share the same weaknesses to blessings or silver that the native Darkovians do. Dhows must have summoned them here.
Donovan: And the auras of my Nighthunters?
«You»: They must just be alternate ways to target those weaknesses. Without that flaw in their defense…
Donovan: …I see. Well then. It seems you’ve fought these creatures before. Do you have any suggestions?
«You»: They die just like anything else.

«Cenara and Donovan transform into GraceFang and NightReign respectively.»

Cenara: I think we can help with that.
  • Continue with Nightreign! – Nightreign will now battle by your side!
  • Continue with Gracefang! – Gracefang will now battle by your side!
  • Fight alone!
      «Regardless of choice»

      8 BATTLES

    «Scene: Inside Dhow’s Fortress»

«A red crystal is floating above a pedestal.»

«You»: There’s no sign of Dhows, but I’ll bet he’s using that to help him maintain these shadow monsters. If we take it out…

«An Eclipse Dragon enters the scene, with dark shadows enveloping its body.»

«You»: Figures he’d keep it guarded.

Cenara: No Dhows… just his guard dog.
Donovan: And if we did encounter him, sister? What then? Would you brandish your silver? Cast your magic missiles into the darkness?
Cenara: It would have been more effective than growling and pretending to be a dragon.
Donovan: I will have you know that-- No. You know what? It matters not. This day is done, and I have other plans, for you, for Darkovia… and for Dhows. Until we next meet… sister.
Cenara: I look forward to ruining every one of those plans, brother.

    «All 3 of you leave Dhows’ fortress.»

Congratulations! You’ve become a Level 10 Shadowslayer, and you’ve learned a new ability: Turn Shadow! Channel holy light to blast darkovian creatures into oblivion!

    Nighthunter – Level 1

Donovan: Well met, friend. I hear that you wish to join my Nighthunters. We seek to eliminate Darkovia’s greatest threat, the treacherous Dhows, and to finally make him pay for his ancient betrayal.
Donovan: While Cenara would have you fight with mere tools, we embrace the darkest aspects of Darkovia when we fight… we are like hunters in the dark of night.
Donovan: My Nighthunters are also my finest troops, sworn to help me solidify my power within Darkovia and finally bring order to this chaotic land.
Donovan: To do that, I need to control everything within Darkovia… the vampires, the werewolves, the Shadowslayers… everything! And I expect you to do your part.

    «Donovan leaves the scene.»

Donovan: We’ve located another batch of enemies ripe for the slaying. Unfortunately, they’re rather close to Cenara’s side of Darkovia.
Donovan: Not that I intend to let that stop me, of course. It simply means we must be more prepared.
Donovan: Should you happen to meet any Shadowslayers on your travels… I will teach you to project a predator’s aura, and YOU will teach them fear.

Congratulations! You’ve become a Level 9 Nighthunter, and you’ve learned a new ability: Dragon! The quintessential predator, this aura will devastate your foe!

    Nighthunter – Level 10

Donovan: We’ve found him! The scheming trickster thought he was hidden from us, but we know now where he hides!
Donovan: He is well-guarded, however, so with our numbers still small, I bregrudgingly have asked for Cenara’s Shadowslayers to lend us a hand.
Donovan: But the moment Dhows is dead, crush Cenara’s Shadowslayers. We’ll kill two birds with one stone.

Cara: Esyl, thank you for agreeing to meet me.
Esyl: Of course… but if you think I will betray my husband for you…
Cara: No. I want nothing of the sort. Constantin and I were once very close, and I do not question your love or loyalty to him. The issue is actually your son and my grandchildren.
Esyl: Crispus has fallen in with Donovan and his lackeys. I have tried to talk sense to my son, but…
Cara: But it falls upon deaf ears? I know well the result of stubborn children, Esyl. Remember what my own son became.
Esyl: Point taken. What do you seek?
Cara: The Loremaster, Falerin, has opened the Hall of Memories…
Esyl: …To your granddaughter, I am aware. Your husband was involved…
Cara: To more than to my granddaughter. I have direct personal knowledge that Donovan, too, has been granted access to the hall.
Esyl: I see. So what is the point of all of this? What do you propose?
Cara: Clearly the purpose of my order is changing, and just like Darkovia itself we are fragmenting. Relate to your husband what has occurred. He swore once to kill Dhows…
Cara: Whatever horrors have befallen us since… I trust he still has that goal…
Esyl: With every fiber of our beings…
Cara: Tell Constantin that the time of choosing has come to Darkovia. The resistance against “The Shadow” has begun in force. I go now to see my grandson… his time is fleeting.
Esyl: I will relate your message, Cara.

    «Esyl leaves the scene.»

Cara: I trust you will relate the same information to your queen. The Shadowslayers and the Nighthunters are born this day.

    «A Vamptress enters.»

    Vamptress: It will be related….

    «The scene fades to black.»

    Elsewhere in Darkovia…

    Edward: So you agree, then…
    Cenara: Naturally.
    ???: Your efforts are observed.
    Both: ?!?!
Cenara: I thought you were certain the magic you were granted would keep Dhows out?
    Edward: I was…
???: It is not the fallen priest who observes you now, but another. Your half brother. He seeks to emulate your efforts to his own end… He is forming an order of Nighthunters to mimic your own.

    «Cara enters the scene.»

    Cara: Greetings…

    «Edward turns to face Cara.»

    Edward: C?
Cara: I am indeed C as you have known me, Edward, but my relationship to you is much deeper than that.
    Cenara: Grandmother?!
Edward: Wait-- “Grandmother”?! … You are… Cara of Luminovia?
Cara: Once, long ago, yes. So what will you do?
Edward: I recommend nothing. Are we in agreement sister?
Cenara: Yes… Our half brother is misguided, but his purpose in this is compatible, even if his methods are not. And while he may have new soldiers in the fight for Darkovia, so will we.
Cenara: I will not resist the formation of the Nighthunters. Rather, I will seek to demonstrate a better option.
Edward: Grandmother, I can hardly believe it. You have chosen a… somewhat inopportune time to reveal yourself, I fear.
    Cara: How so?
Edward: I was finishing here… saying my goodbyes. I have been dead a long time, C… er, grandmother.
Cara: Ah. That I know too, grandson. And I have a way to stop it…

«The Commander Paladin enters the scene.»

Commander Paladin: Greetings to you, from the Lady of Light and the Lord of Darkness.
    Cenara: Paladin…
Edward: So, you have finished the journey Dhows sought to stop…
Commander Paladin: Yes, and I offer a respite against death’s door. You have long served Darkovia, Edward, and her patrons have taken notice.
Commander Paladin: Your continued service is deemed valuable even if no longer in the more physical sense.
Edward: I appreciate the offer, I do… But Death and I have an arrangement.

    «Death enters the scene.»

Death: Our arrangement is as of this moment cancelled.
Lady of Light: Death’s agents do not merely collect favors from others. Even they owe a few as well.
Death: It all evens out in time. I am not yet ready to collect from my own debtors, but it seems some of my creditors are more pressing…
Lord of Darkness: Do not mistake us. It is still time to say goodbye. You die this day.
Edward: Rather you intend to ease my transition…
Lady of Light: Something of the sort. We leave Darkovia in capable hands.
Lord of Darkness: Indeed, Luminovia shall be well cared for.
Edward: Yes… I do believe it shall be. Sister… Goodbye. Never forget what I have taught you, and that I love you. And Grandmother…
    Cara: Yes?
Edward: It is a pleasure to have met you again.
Lord of Darkness: Are you ready, then?
Lady of Light: We do not intend to rush you…
Edward: No… I am not rushed. I have been waiting a long time for this moment.

«Edward’s body starts to fade as he transits to death. He faces Cenara.»

    Edward: Cenara.
    Cenara: Yes, Edward?
    Edward: Make Dhows pay…

«With that, Edward completely vanishes and the screen fades to black…»

    quote:

    Shards of MegSual

Location: Battleon » Battleon Inn » Speak to Yulgar » Mail! » Letter from Warlic

    Dear Adventurer,

We've a mystery on our hands! A sword was delivered to the Guardian Tower this morning. Everyone has been asked in town as to who ordered it, but no one will step up and claim it. It's a very interesting sword, almost otherwordly. Yulgar has taken a look at it and is mesmerized by its craftsmanship. There is an inscription on the crossbar that says "MeigSul". The mystery is certainly interesting. Please meet me at the Guardian Tower to investigate.

    -Warlic

    «Scene: Battleon»

    «You»: ....
«You»: So, a sword just... appeared? It's really unusual that a sword would be delivered here, much less so mysteriously. Well, I'd better go to the Tower and meet up with Warlic.

«Scene: Outside the Guardian Tower, with Warlic»

Warlic: Ah, there you are, «You». I was hoping you would take up the mystery and join me here. There is much to do.
Warlic: While waiting for you, I did some searching of my own. I did find a similar word as one on the crossbar of the sword, MeigSul.
Warlic: It's an old word, meaning to be free, or to Unpause. Unpause... what an odd concept. And also strange that the word could mean two such different concepts.
«You»: And it just... appeared here, delivered to the Guardian Tower?
Warlic: Yes. The guards said that the delivery was made by the usual person, nothing out of the ordinary. They accepted the package, as is their duty, and sent message to me right away.
«You»: Well, might as well go in and take a look.

«The guards of the guardian tower lift their swords. An arrow appears for you to enter the Guardian Tower. Inside the tower, a large, luminous green sword is on a table.»

«You»: Wow, that is an amazing looking sword. And to think, no one has claimed it, nor is there a name to identify who sent it.
Warlic: Nimrod, may we please take a closer look at it?
Nimrod: Of course, Warlic. I rooted around in the crate it was shipped in and found a fragment of parchment. I thought maybe you would be interested in it?
Warlic: Hmm... It says here that the sword is... living. And it is responsible for the something something, of space and time, something something, freeze life.
Warlic: Well, that helps and it doesn't. I wish I had the parts that were torn.

    Examine the blade!

«Click the blade to examine it. You will then wield it and the MegSual temporarily replaces your no-drop weapon.»

«You»: Even still, what you read makes this sword very unique, and if I may say so, a bit creepy. I am not sure that I would like to wield a living weapon during a battle.
Warlic: Why? I would find it fascinating.
«You»: I am not sure I want it talking to me, or second guessing me, in the midst of an attack.
    Warlic: That... would prove dangerous.

«The flames in the room suddenly extinguish and darkness consumes the entire room.»

    Warlic: Lights!

«The lights come back on, but a Guardian Angel statue appears in the background.»

«You»: Um... has that always been in this room? I thought it belonged in the Treasury.
Warlic: It... does. But I recall it being much smaller...
«You»: I say we make our way up there and see what is going on.

«Scene: Armory. Another Guardian Angel statue is in the background.»

Warlic: There the statue is again. What is going on? I've never had this happen in the past when coming here.
«You»: I don't like this. There's something about the statue. I can't put my finger on it... but I don't like it.
Warlic: You are right. There is something--

    «The lights go off again.»

    «You»: This is not good.
    Warlic: LIGHTS!

«When the lights come on, there are suddenly multiple Guardian Angel statues with their pedestals everywhere!»

    «You»: What the...?
    Warlic: This is not natural.
«You»: It's the sword. I don't know how I know that, but it is the sword. I think we should make haste to the Treasury.

«The lights go off, yet again.»

    Warlic: Lights, NOW!

«The lights come on. The multiple Guardian Angel statues are now neatly lined up on a side instead of being scattered everywhere.»

    «You»: Up the stairs!

«The scene plunges into darkness again.»

    Warlic: By the gods, LIGHTS!

«The Guardian Angels are now closer to you, with their hands raised towards you and Warlic...»

    «You»: What is going on?!
Warlic: I don't know, but we need to get away.
«You»: And going into the Treasury with one of these already there, whatever they are, waiting for us?
Warlic: What choice do we have? Just go!

    «Scene: Treasury»

«You»: The Guardian statue is still how I remember it.
Warlic: Yes, but for how long?
«You»: There is something about this sword, being here, that is causing all this trouble, but for what reason. And, blast it, for what reason was it sent here to us?
    Warlic: I wish I knew.

«A short cutscene ensues. Multiple silhouettes of the "Guardian Angel" begin the flood the screen, and approach you. The MegSual destroys all of them, but is destroyed in the process. Your no-drop weapon switches back to your default.»

«You»: Gods, I thought we were goners.
Warlic: I am surprised we are still here. For a moment, I thought we had died. Those... those creatures were terrifying. And bent on destroying us. But why?
«You»: Tell me, Warlic... is the guardian angel statue still on its pedestal? I am not sure I want to look...
Warlic: It... it is, but remains unch--

«The Guardian Angel statue floats up and glows. It bursts and the Guardian Angel comes to life, flapping her angelic wings.»

Guardian Angel: My brave Adventurer... and Warlic, my profuse apologies. I imagine you would like an explanation?
Warlic: That would be nice, yes.
Guardian Angel: I come from a people who are supposed to be guardians, given to this world and others for the sole purpose of watching over the progression of life.
Guardian Angel: For eons, we did just that and were content. But, as every story goes, many became proud and began to twist their roles.
«You»: Why does it always have to go that way?
Guardian Angel: Because, «You», that is just how it goes.
Guardian Angel: So, instead of benevolent, caring guardians, they began to watch over people, but using our power to hurt, intimidate and scare those that we were to protect.
Guardian Angel: But, their decision to abuse also limited their ability to appear to those they were watching.
Guardian Angel: Because of the malevolence behind their actions, greater powers than ours made it to where they could only move when darkness struck.
«You»: Well, that explains why the flames kept going out.
Warlic: Yes, it does. Explain the sword.
Guardian Angel: Long ago, a man created MegSual to destroy those who had turned against our ways. But, they were able to kill him first and entrap the rest of us to forever watch, but not always be able to act.
Guardian Angel: The sword was lost to all, until recently. How it came to Battleon, I don't know.
Guardian Angel: But you, «You», had the heart necessary to wield it and destroy those who turned dark and sinister.
    «You»: But, it's destroyed now.
Guardian Angel: That was intended. Had there been more of the darker angels, the sword would have remained intact until all were defeated. But, the shards of the sword are still here.
Guardian Angel: Let me do something...

«In a blinding glow of light, the Guardian Angel reforms a MegSual into a new sword with its shards floating around.»

Guardian Angel: MegSual will never be used again. But, a sword made from its shards has properties and abilities that are special and powerful.
Guardian Angel: This sword can be made available to you if you so choose. Also, as my thanks, I will submit myself to you, as a companion and help, in times when you need me most.
Guardian Angel: All you have to do is ask.

«The Guardian Angel fades away with the reformed sword.»

Warlic: I... really don't know what to say.
«You»: Me either. Do you think that the dark angels are truly... gone?
Warlic: I am not sure... I want to think about that.

    Return to Alnaphar
Ruins of Alnaphar – Valley of Legends: Quest for the Overlord and Twilight sets!

Location: Battleon » Travel Map » Travel South » Alnaphar

Alnaphar… a hidden valley not far from Smoke Mountain. A woman called Halliphax, wearing both regal armor and a strange shadowy robe, has appeared in town to tell of this place, lost to memory for a long time. As you approach, the sulphuric clouds that surround Smoke mountain seem to be replaced by the pure smell of a thunderstorm. The humidity in the still air of Alnaphar is a thick barrier protecting the dark volcanic rock of the valley, and something else…

    «Scene: Overview of Alnaphar»

«A rainbow stretches into the distance behind the mountains. Clicking on it will lead you to the Golden Set quest. Halliphax enters the scene after a while.»

Halliphax: «You»! It is good to see you have come to Alnaphar. There are great challenges ahead for you.
Halliphax: I have been the Gatekeeper of this hidden valley for so long that it is hard for me to allow others to enter, but I have no choice.
Halliphax: Here is kept some of the mightiest equipment ever forged in this world: the Overlord Set and the Twilight set.
Halliphax: The Overlord’s Set consists of the Overlord’s Dynasty armor, the Overlord’s Legend shield, and Overlord’s Supremacy, a mighty burning sword!
Halliphax: The Twilight Set is made up of the Twilight’s Mantle armor, Twilight’s Regalia shield, and Twilight’s Dread, a frightening spear made of bone!
Halliphax: The Overlord Set is guarded within the hollows of this gigantic tree, called the Tree of Kings. It once belonged to a great ruler whose name is now long forgotten.
Halliphax: The Twilight Set can be found buried deep beneath the tree’s roots. It is said to be guarded by creatures not of this world.
Halliphax: You may only quest for one set of items at a time. To get the most powerful items, you will have to use all of your abilities. Which will you quest for now?

Notes for Overlord / Twilight Quest
When you reach a sub-boss, successfully defeating it will give the following message.

You have survived this far and have discovered a mystical shop! You can either:
  • Visit the Shop - See below
    or
  • Journey On!

Regardless of choice, you will be presented with the following choices.

  • Continue Quest
  • Story Mode
  • Abandon Quest

If you click on Story Mode at any point of time, you are presented with the following message.

You are about to enter Story Mode. You will be able to experience the rest of the story without any fights – but you will not have the opportunity to earn the higher-level sets.
This decision cannot be changed without restarting the quest. Do you wish to continue?

  • Yes, enter Story Mode
    or
  • No, continue

    Overlord Set Story Mode Intro
You battle your way through legions of creatures, and after a long trek, you find yourself in the king’s main chambers….

«Dialogue continues where you confront the Nameless King again.»

    Twilight Set Story Mode Intro
You battle your way through legions of creatures, and after a long trek, you find yourself in the heart of the dark cave, where the creatures make their homes….

«Dialogue continues where you meet Navith again.»
    Quest for the Overlord Set

«Halliphax floats away from the scene as the scene zooms in to the tree on Alnaphar, revealing a castle standing atop the tree.»

During a hard climb, you notice that the Reign Tree seems to be grown from pure gold! You enter the castle resting in the boughs of the tree…

«Scene: Entrance to the Tree of Kings»

    «Halliphax enters the scene.»

Halliphax: I am impressed with how quickly you got up here! Ehem… Anyway, THIS is the legendary Tree of Kings. Nurtured by Wizards and Alchemists for centuries, the Tree is a fortress.
Halliphax: Search the halls of the Tree of Kings and you will find treasures guarded by a variety of monsters. The items of the Overlord Set are hidden here.
Halliphax: Beware, for it is rumored that the king’s servants still roam these halls. Good luck to you! I will be waiting for your return.
  • Quest!

  • Quest alone!
  • Take Halliphax with you! (Guardian only)

«Regardless of choice, you will proceed with the following dialogue. Arrows will appear for you to navigate through the area. Each “room” has 1 monster battle. You receive a Full Heal and a potion bag for you to refill your potions every 2 battles. There is a trap you will encounter (first entrance up that you see).»

    Trap!!!
You triggered a trap! Can you evade it?
    Difficulty: 55
    Stat Used: Dexterity

«If you fail the roll: “You were hit by the spears!”»
«If you succeed the roll: “You dodge the trap!”»

«You get a Full Heal immediately after the trap. Should your HP hit 0 due to the trap, you will be sent to Death.»

«However you move, you will eventually have to go up one of 2 entrances. Both lead you to the dialogue below.»

Nameless King: Who dares to walk within these hallowed halls?
«You»: I am «You». I’ve come to prove myself worthy of your legendary equipment.
Nameless King: Then you must show me your might. Face me in battle!
      1 BATTLE
      The Nameless King (45)
      Full Heal
Nameless King: You are not bad, young one… You may yet be worthy of my power.
Nameless King: You have passed the first test. If you can reach my chambers alive, I will grant you another chance to prove yourself… This time, for real.

«The Nameless King leaves the scene. You are given the option to visit Overlord Set I or continue on. You can also refill your potions from the potion bag. Once you receive the message “There are a lot of enemies past this point!”, you will be fighting 2 consecutive battles per room. You will have to pass through a Jester Pit trap in order to proceed, with the following stat rolls.»

    Difficulty: 115

      Difficulty: 85
      Stat Used: Strength/Intelligence/Charisma

«Succeeding in either rolls will give the message “You dodged the trap!”, and you can continue to the dialogue with Geldar below. If you fail the strength roll however, a message “You hear crazed laughter!!” appears and you will go through the following battles.»
      6 BATTLES
Full Heal after battles #3 and #6
«You can then exit the pit and proceed to the dialogue with Geldar below.»

Geldar: You have come far, young one. But your journey ends here.
«You»: I don’t think so, I’ll defeat you just like all the others that have blocked my path!
Geldar: So be it, I shall have to show you the power of a Gold Dragon!
      1 BATTLE
      Geldar
      Full Heal
Geldar: You are stronger than I thought. You may be worthy to carry on the legacy of my liege.

«Geldar retreats. You are given the option to visit Overlord Set II or continue on. You can also refill your potions here via the potion bag. Continuing the journey, you will eventually encounter an Overlord Phoenix.»

      1 BATTLE
      Overlord Phoenix
      Full Heal
«You are given the option to visit Overlord Set III, or just continue on. You can also refill your potions from the potion bag. In the subsequent battles, for every trap you encounter, it will be immediately followed by two monster battles regardless of whether you succeed or fail the roll, before a Full Heal. Failing the roll will deal damage to you. Damage is based on your Fire resistance.»

    Difficulty: 81
    Stat Used: Strength

«If you succed the roll: “You manage to lift the door and evade the fireball! Now for some monsters!”»

    Flaming Arrow Trap
A mechanism in the wall is firing flaming arrows at you! Can you dodge the arrows and disarm the trap?
    Difficulty: 81
    Stat Used: Dexterity

«If you fail the roll: “Ouch! You couldn’t dodge the flaming arrows!”»
«If you succeed the roll: “You dodge the flaming arrows, but there are still enemies lying in wait!”»

    Difficulty: 81
    Stat Used: Endurance

«If you succeed the roll: “You manage to endure the heat, and get across before taking damage!”»

    Babysitter?!
You disturbed a Phoenix nest! Can you soothe the chicks before a very angry Phoenix mother arrives and char-broils you?
    Difficulty: 81
    Stat Used: Charisma

«If you fail the roll: “The mother Phoenix arrives and blasts you right into some monsters!”»
«If you succeed the roll: “You soothe the chicks, but run into some monsters shortly afterwards!”»

    Well, do ya? Punk?
There are two levers here on the wall, one apparently opens the door, and the other will give you a flame bath. Do you feel lucky?
    Difficulty: 81
    Stat Used: Luck

«If you fail the roll: “You chose… poorly. AAAAAGGGHHHH!”»
«If you succeed the roll: “You picked the right lever! Now to beat the last foes in your path!”»

«The Nameless King confronts you once more.»

Nameless King: It seems that nothing can dissuade you from your quest. I admire that spirit.
Nameless King: It is what drove me to become king. My rule was absolute…. and this kingdom was to become a symbol of my dynasty.
«You»: What happened? Alnaphar is a hidden valley, now, with few visitors. How did it fall from glory?
Nameless King: Truthfully, young one, the Tree of Kings does not originate from Alnaphar…. but another universe entirely.
Nameless King: But our universe was falling apart. The boundaries between elements had fallen apart, and things seemed hopeless.
Nameless King: And so, in a last act of desperation, I used all of my magical power to transport us here.
Nameless King: But the consequences were terrible…. I and my servants became bound to this land as spirits for all of time.
Nameless King: Our legend has long since been forgotten, and with it, our own memories have faded.
    «You»: How can I help?
Nameless King: Nothing can help us now. I can only hope to pass on my equipment and legacy to a worthy successor, that our legend may live on.
Nameless King: Perhaps you are the one I seek. There is but one way to be sure: best me in combat!
    Nameless King: Shall we begin?
      «Non-Story Mode»

      1 BATTLE
      The Nameless King (135)
      Full Heal

«Successfully defeating The Nameless King opens Overlord Set IV.»

Nameless King: When you feel you are ready, return here and challenge me. I will be waiting!

«If you succeed the roll: “You picked the right switch! Now for the final enemies in your way!!”»

«You confront Navith once more. This is also where Story Mode’s dialogue will continue.»

Navith: It seems that you survived the journey through the Heart of Shadow after all. Impressive, human.
Navith: Our kind can certainly respect a strong will to survive, given that we are so few in number.
    «You»: What exactly are you?
Navith: We are Forgotten. We are what you might call shadows of life itself.
Navith: We were brought here accidentally long ago, when the Tree of Kings departed its home and landed here in Lore.
Navith: Hiding in the tree’s roots, we thought ourselves safe from intruders…. we were wrong.
«You»: What happened? You live deep beneath Alnaphar… Surely nothing can reach you down here.
Navith: Ah, and yet we have legions of undead at our disposal… Do you not see a problem with that point of view?
Navith: We hoped to live peacefully down here until we could find a way home.
Navith: But many adventurers have found these caves in the time since we arrived, and have brutally slaughtered our kind.
Navith: In order to defend ourselves, we embraced the darker elements of nature and the strange lingering power beneath our feet.
Navith: With this great power, we raised the slain adventurers as our guardians, and have been protected here.
Navith: But so few of us remain, and our nature dictates that we can only sub-divide at a very slow pace.
    «You»: How can I help?
Navith: We are beyond your help. We can only hope to live long enough to replenish our population.
Navith: And perhaps one day, find a way to return home.
Navith: But that is none of your concern. You came here seeking power, and you shall have it… But…
Navith: If you cannot prove your worth to me, I will not grant you the power to assume our form!
    Navith: Are you prepared?

Navith: You are quite wise for being so new to adventuring. Yet I sense that you may one day have the power you need.
Navith: When you have grown stronger, return here and challenge me. We will still be here, I’m sure….
