Wargeneral37 -> Returning Warrior Advice! (6/8/2020 17:45:07)

Returning warrior, playing since April now, realizing a lot of my equipment is out of date/low level after hitting 150 recently - I have some MC sets but they are all the lvl 105/120 versions. I spent everything I had saved up on the Twilight set and currently grinding the war to get as much money as possible for other equipment, but I don't know what equipment I should upgrade/replace. I have some GGB stored up, and I have picked up a good number of GGB items already (wanted the FF7 items). Any advice is appreciated, especially for Armor, Shields, and Misc Items!

Character Link : https://aq.battleon.com/game/flash/charview?temp=4539414
Level & Status : 150, Guardian
STR : 250
DEX : 250
INT : 0
END : 100
CHA : 0
LUK : 150
Armor of Awe/UltraGuardian Element (If Applicable): UltraGuardian Armor and Shield, both on default.

I prefer an offensive-focused build. I do care about equipment aesthetics so I am wiling to pick up less efficient equipment for the sake of looks :)

Congrats on reaching level 150 and almost 1,000 war waves! Before anything else, I just want to ask: do you favor an offensive playstyle or a defensive playstyle? Your weapons and guest Dunamis imply the former, but your resistance miscs and defensive armors imply the latter. That is the most important question that must be answered first.

Wargeneral37 -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/8/2020 18:30:43)

Thanks! I favor an offensive playstyle, but previously I wasn't worried about optimization so I had been just picking up misc/armor based on what I can afford and best resistances I knew about at the time.

RobynJoanne -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/8/2020 19:55:10)

That makes sense. Honestly, it's better to optimize once one's hit max level to avoid constantly questing mastercraft set upgrades.

Primate Murder will probably give a very detailed equipment guide, so you'll probably need to wait for that, but I can give some general quick advice right now.

The current meta focuses heavily on using skills/spells aka "nukes" to do as much damage as possible as quickly as possible. The Purple Rain Loop is one of the best facilitators of that. It's a good idea to read up on that using the link provided, and the wiki also provides great advice on equipment as well.

Because of this meta, END is not very useful since you should theoretically kill anything before it gets a turn. It is therefore recommended that you shift your points from END to LUK, instead for greater overall damage and Initiative.

It is also a good idea to align your no-drop items to a certain element by talking to Nimrod in the Guardian Tower. Wind is generally preferred because of a lack of good wind items that are not rare or premium.

Finally, I just want to mention the kinds of items that are considered "best" in the game for offensive players and explain the reasoning behind them.

Weapons:
Bloodblades are the best weapons in the game because they do +20% damage for an HP cost. They are all in the Rare GGB shop and are a set with the Bloodmage and Bloodzerker armors.

Armors:
Bloodzerker armors are the best armors in the game because they can double your weapon damage and give a further +20% on top from an HP cost, though they lock your attacks to their respective element. They're best used in conjunction with weapons that have skills compressed like the Twisted Gauntlet of Xanos that will be leaving the Rare GGB shop this week and Zabura's Hammer.
The other best armors are the old-lean armors that have overpowered armor skills due to following an old system. Your Horo-Show Void Vigilante is one of them along with White Knight Z and High Oracle's Taladosian Robes. Unfortunately, they don't do melee damage, so Dunamis has no synergy with them, making them less ideal for warriors without Thernda.
The subrace armors are just a tier below these armors because they are slightly weaker but are highly versatile due to having 10 skills.
Along with these armors are utility armors like Kindred, which has the strongest skill in the game but must be charged, and Whispering Raiment, which gives +105 Initiative to greatly increase your changes of going first.

Shields:
Chieftain's Ironthorn is a broken shield that multiplies attack/skill damage by 1.5x. Other shields are mostly irrelevant if you do enough damage, so shields are often chosen for utility effects.

Spells:
Purple Rain for the loop and everything associated with it are the most important spells for a warrior.
The Imbues are at warrior tower are also fantastic but cost a lot of Z-tokens. They force your next attack to be a certain element, so they can help fill your nuke gaps.

Pets:
Without Cha, the only pets that are notable are the booster pets like Dunamis and Thernda and utility pets. The utility pets that are the most useful are Underwyrmling since it can be toggled to attack SP and Kindred for Kindred Charges.

Miscs:
Essence Orb is essential since it allows HP to SP conversion. This fuels the SP-hungry nuke playstyle.
Your other miscs are those that synergize with Purple Rain and damage boosters like Minotaur's Pride and Sword Master Emblem. Again, these are all to help with the meta strategy of hitting things really, really hard.

I hope this helps, and Primate Murder should be able to give even more specific equipment help in the future.

Wargeneral37 -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/9/2020 0:34:51)

Are there MC set options for the armors that would be suggested? I currently don't have enough GGB to have a chance at all of the Bloodzerker armors. For example, for Fire armor, Overlord set vs Wyrm set?

Otherwise, wow, that's a lot of stuff that needs to be changed, but I'll definitely do what I can...

RobynJoanne -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/9/2020 1:08:38)

Torontosaurus Rex from the LTS is a fantastic option for fire.
W.H.E.E.L. is decent for water but doesn't do melee damage for its skill.
You can just use your no-drop Werewolf Transformation for Earth.
High Oracle's Taladosian Robes is a great option for energy but is old-lean, so it doesn't do melee damage for its skill.

These are some decent substitutes. It might be good to pick up Thernda, though, if you plan to use old-lean armors to boost your ranged damage.

Greldracion -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/9/2020 2:05:44)

In terms of water, Kindred is the undisputed best single turn nuke in the game (with stacks of focus) and is a good alternative for Quenching Bloodzerker.

Primate Murder -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/9/2020 2:46:31)

Welcome back and congrats on reaching the top level!

Not sure how much my help is still needed here, but I'll do what I can:

Weapons

As mentioned above, wind is the best element to align your no-drops to (since the best weapon is premium), along with the PWD awe special.

Fire, water, ice, earth and light have Bloodblades or Bloodzerker Blades (functionally identical outside the FSB) which deal +20% damage. They deal high damage and are easy to use, making them the go-to weapons for many FO builds. That said, there are a few other options for those elements:

- Kindred sword has a chargable autohit.

- MagnaBlade is the last weapon in the game that deals +30% damage. It does have a special though, so it's slightly less useful for armor skills (outside togglables like Beast Form and Bloodzerker).

- Troll Club (with Berserk toggled) is actually stronger that the Bloodzerker Blade and requires no GGB, but comes with a hefty penalty to your accuracy.

- There are a variety of light weapons that can be clickied on to activate a weapon skill (like the Gauntlet of Xano in your storage), which have great synergy with Bloodzerker armor toggles and werewolf's Beast Form.

Royal Voidrender in your storage toggles to deal harm damage.

If you pull points from End to Luck, Jalek's Panic Reaver has great synergy with werewolf - you can cast Snarl, then eat the fear for bth/LS bonus, all qc and usable inside the Purple Rain loop. If you want something simpler, URs have Agony's Embrace which gives you a 15% damage bonus (at the expense of taking +15/1.4% more).

Armors

There's little I can add here that hasn't already been mentioned, except... Did you complete the advanced subrace quest? That would give you a second no-drop armor ( werewolf transformation) and unlock the abilities of its elemental variants. If you don't have the UR or tokens for Terrazerker and WKZ, this works as a great armor for both earth and light - and Gauntlet of Xano + Beast Form should deal damage comparable to WKZ's nuke.

Shields

If you're aligning your no-drop to wind, Gemini would not actually give you any extra slots. Instead, I'd suggest Cerberus Ward (fire/dark) to fit in CIT.

In addition to Kindred, you also have the option of Celtic Wheel (Int drive for one cast of Moonwalker's Grace), Hyperalphean (1/battle free block against a single hit), and Logos (blocking-boost toggle).

Golem Guard has an sp-cost toggle to reduce the damage you take.

If you find yourself with a spare UR, get Golden Dragon Head shield for a boost to your LS rate. Otherwise, Scarab Shell has a toggle to lower monster MRM, which would increase the accuracy of all your attacks.

Spells

The Thernda guest is your first priority if you find yourself with a UR.

Moonwalker's Grace is a qc Dex booster (costs mp, so use with Celtic Wheel and Int misc).

Warmaster's Burst gives you an acceptable nuke for wind.

Pets

Mutant Egg pet from Grenwog has paralysis infliction, making it a pretty nice for wind and energy elements (and water if you're not using Kindred weapon/armor/shield).

Frost Effigy has a chance to inflict Freeze, giving it great synergy with any fire nukes.

Morningstar pet has a toggle to inflict EleVuln or DefLoss, increasing the damage or accuracy of your attacks. Eventually you'll want to replace him with WoolZard, but it'll be a while until it comes back.

Lepre-Chaun is a light damage booster.

Model 294 inflicts EleVuln.

Miscs

As mentioned by the folks above, Essence Orb is a major boost to any playstyle. Shadowfeeder Pendant and Love Potion (qc control; comes back at Snugglefest) are great for the PR loop.

Goggernaut Helm is a cheap misc that boosts the accuracy of every attack on the field (without the usual /2 for spells). Not good synergy with on-block shields, but great for increasing the accuracy of your attacks and pets.

Windter Crown gives an omni-elemental damage boost for all your attacks, making it slightly better than the more specialized options, and can give extra sp in a pinch.

Bell Shell heals a bit of your hp based on damage dealt. The heal is less than CoRS', but it also doesn't reduce your damage, so it's an overall better choice for FO builds.

Terror Visage increases your Snarl's chances of inflicting Fear.

The updated Morningstar Helm gives you immunity to paralysis.

Frostgale's Remorse gives you ice/wind damage boost, extra Dex and increased chances of inflicting paralysis with Mutant Egg pets.

Hope the info's useful and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Wargeneral37 -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/11/2020 19:15:30)

That's a lot of comprehensive stuff, thanks!

One question, the links for Moonfang Omen Shield and Bloodfang Omen Shield don't show where to get them; is this from a limited event?

RobynJoanne -> RE: Returning Warrior Advice! (6/11/2020 19:38:59)

They're from the updated Devourer Saga quests: Red Fog and Hairy Situation.
