Dialogue

*You and your dragon meet with Nirios, Etaos, Alz'ein, and Isiri on a sunny morning in Atrea's entrance.*

Isiri: Welcome, <Character>, to Atrea, once the capital of Somorah!
Isiri: Are you ready to enter the city? I must first report to The Iglica— that is, The Spire— but Etaos and Nirios can give you a brief tour of the city.
<Character>: Exploring a city from another planet sounds fun. I'd love a tour.
Alz'ein: I have to make sure Veyla is alright. And the other refugees, too. Very busy.
Alz'ein: Catch you later!

*Alz'ein leaves to find Veyla and the other Atealan refugees.*

Nirios: But—
Etaos: Relax, Nirios. It's been a long night. Let's be grateful and generous hosts to <Character> and <Dragon>, yes?
Nirios: ...Of course. You are correct, brother.
Nirios: Isiri, contact us if we are needed for any more... serious matters.
Isiri: I will.
Isiri: Enjoy seeing the sights, <Character>, <Dragon>. And thank you, once again, for saving us.

*Isiri leaves, leaving only Etaos and Nirios to tour Atrea with you and your dragon.*

Etaos: Well then, you two, looks like you're going to be in our care for now!
Nirios: Just... and I'm sure, as heroes, you don't need to be reminded of this, please be respectful.
Nirios: Our people have been through a lot, as has the city. This is a time of mourning, not celebration.
<Character>: We understand, Nirios. Right, <Dragon>?
<Dragon>: ...Yeah. | *Solemn growl*
Nirios: Thank you.

*Nirios nods back at you and your dragon.*

Etaos: Now, shall we begin? Your first steps into Atrea await!

*Scene fades to black, before fading back in; scene fades into Atrea's ring before shifting at the outlandish buildings below; a dark blue scroll appears with the word Atrea; back inside Atrea, you, Etaos, and Nirios look at the ring above Atrea.*

Nirios: ...Look, up there. That ring floating above the city is the Lens. It protects the Ateala living here from the sunlight of this planet.
Nirios: Back on Somorah we had no use for it after the darkness fell. It became a training center for Cryptics such as Etaos and I.
Etaos: Looks like the annoying "Raising of the Lens" ceremony actually meant something, after all.
Etaos: The Lens is enhanced with trithril, and Cryptics use their mental abilities to keep it high above the city.
Nirios: We should be up there, helping.
<Character>: If you have other things you need to do, <Dragon> and I could—
Nirios: No, no. It's just that after everything that has happened recently, I find it difficult to lower my guard.
<Character>: I understand. Your people have suffered unspeakable tragedy. Relaxing now seems inappropriate.
<Character>: What if you introduced me, as a visiting hero, to your city for educational purposes?
<Character>: The more I learn about Atrea and the Ateala, the better I can help defend you.
Etaos: Exactly! This tour serves a very important purpose! It wouldn't do for our visiting hero to get lost in the alleys when we need <him/her/them>!
Nirios: ...Onward, then.
Nirios: In the center of the city is The Spire. As Atrea was the capital of Somorah, naturally, our Empress resides there, along with a trusted few.
Etaos: Nirios and I live there, actually. As do Alz'ein and Isiri, and others, of course!
<Character>: You have an Empress? Do you think <Dragon> and I could meet her?
Etaos: Aha. That is up for her to decide.
Etaos: You do not request an audience to see The Empress, she will make herself known when and if she deems fit.
<Dragon>: Aw. I think we're worthy already... | *Disappointed chirp*
Nirios: Do not worry. Unael such as Isiri and I can communicate with her when necessary. The Empress is present, even when unseen.
<Character>: Hmm. I see. Or well, I guess I don't see!
Etaos: I wonder if any of the other Unael escaped...
Etaos: Ah. Something to worry about later.
Etaos: Let's continue the tour! How about we visit the civil district next?

*Scene fades to black, before fading back in; Nirios, you, Etaos, and your dragon are in the Civil District, where it is crowded with the Atealan refugees.*

Nirios: Wait— is that—
Nirios: Yolande! Yolande! Over here!

*A violet-eyed Atealan refugee—Yolande—turns around to face you, your dragon, Nirios, and Etaos; Yolande is glad that Nirios and Etaos are safe.*

Yolande: Oh! Nirios! And Etaos!
Yolande: I'm so glad you're safe! Let me finish helping these people out, and I'll be right with you!

*Scene zooms out to focus on Yolande's meeting with you, your dragon, Nirios, and Etaos; this is Yolande's first meeting with you and your dragon.*

Nirios: It is good to see you well, Yolande. I expected you would still be in the city, but I was still worried nonetheless.
Yolande: That's sweet, Nirios. You know I'd be the last one to leave Atrea!
Yolande: Well, besides the Empress, maybe!
Yolande: But who is this? You've met natives of this planet already? Introduce them, yes?
Nirios: Er. Right. I apologize for my manners. Yolande, this is <Character> and <Dragon>.
Nirios: They are heroes from this world, and they helped rescue many Ateala from Wargoth's attack.
<Character>: Nice to meet you, Yolande!
<Dragon>: Hello! | *Cheerful growl*
Yolande: Jatiw! It seems we owe you a great thanks for your aid. My name, as you know, is Yolande.
Yolande: I am the caretaker of the civil district and those who live in it.
Yolande: If you choose to stay here, I'll be the one you talk to if you need anything, or if there's any communication from The Spire!
<Character>: Thank you, Yolande.
Yolande: My pleasure! Now, I'm sure you have plenty more to do, don't let me keep you!
Etaos: See you around, Yolande!
Yolande: Take care of your brother, okay, Etaos?
Nirios: ...
Etaos: You know I will! Let's see... where to next?
Etaos: Oh, I know! The inn! You generously hosted us in Falconreach, why don't we get you a place to stay here?
Nirios: You three go on ahead first. I still have some matters to discuss with Yolande.
Etaos: Sure thing. Come on, <Character>, <Dragon>. Let's get to the inn!

*Scene fades to black, before fading back in; you, your dragon, and Etaos are in Atrea's inn, where it is also crowded with Atealan refugees.*

Etaos: Hmm.

*Scene pans right, showing more of the Atealan refugees before panning left to focus on you, your dragon, and Etaos.*

Etaos: It's definitely more crowded than I remember.
<Character>: ...That might be because of all the refugees.
Etaos: Ah. Yeah. That makes sense. Sorry.
Etaos: Hopefully we can still get you a room to stay in...
Etaos: Why don't we get you something local to drink, first? Pay you back for the Moglinberry juice!
<Character>: Sure, that sounds nice!
Etaos: Hey, D'iea! Three glasses of Zin'nichi Brew, please!
D'iea: Sorry, Etaos, we're all out.
Etaos: Out of Zin'nichi Brew? Come on. How can that be?
D'iea: Turns out getting teleported to a new planet causes people to worry about running out of all the favorites.
D'iea: If we can't grow zin'nichi here, no Zin'nichi Brew, after all.
<Character>: What's zin'nichi?
Etaos: Don't know if you have anything like it on Lore. It grows in the ground with big leaves, very starchy.
Etaos: You can juice the tuber into Zin'nichi Brew, and some people like to eat the leaves.
Etaos: The juice is very sweet, so we add in a few spices to balance the flavor out.
Etaos: The leaves... well, some Ateala would eat them for every meal, but I think they taste disgusting.
Etaos: Seems like however people feel about it, it might be a while until we have more.
Etaos: They used to be grown in fields outside the city, you see.
Etaos: The sands here might make things difficult.
Etaos: Oh! I'm sorry, I'm rambling! It's just such a pleasure to explain basic things such as zin'nichi!
<Character>: No, don't worry, this is fascinating! We have potatoes here on Lore that sound similar.
<Character>: I'm sure we can find some way to grow your local foods!
<Character>: Might need to ask someone a bit more experienced with that sort of thing, though.
<Character>: I'm sure there's a lot of considerations that need to be made.
Etaos: I imagine so! We'll just have to make do for now, though.
Etaos: But, ah, perhaps we can talk about something other than what's been lost.
Etaos: What about—

*A door opening sound effect plays as Alz'ein enters the inn to regroup with you, your dragon, and Etaos; she appears to tell them with urgent news.*

Alz'ein: There you are! I've been looking all over for you!
Etaos: Actually, as it turns out—
Alz'ein: No, it doesn't matter. <Character>, <Dragon>, I need your help.
Alz'ein: And yes, you too, Etaos.
Alz'ein: I can't find Veyla anywhere!
<Character>: Veyla— she was the one we rescued from Wargoth's control, right?
Alz'ein: Yes, that's right.
Alz'ein: I caught up with her in the city, and I only left her for a moment while getting some food...
Alz'ein: And then she vanished! I can't believe she would do something like that!
<Character>: We'll help you look for her. You don't think Wargoth might have—
Alz'ein: Stop. Don't even think about that.
Etaos: I'm afraid our tour ends here, then, <Character>, <Dragon>.
Etaos: I'll go with Alz'ein and the others to search around.
Etaos: Since you're still getting used to the city, I'd suggest sticking with Yolande and seeing if she can find something for you to do.
Alz'ein: Done, Etaos?
Etaos: Yes, let's go.

*Alz'ein and Etaos leaves the inn, leaving only you and your dragon; they too feel a bad feeling about Veyla's disappearance.*

<Dragon>: ...I have a bad feeling about this. | *Uneasy rumble*
<Character>: Yeah. I feel the same. We better find Yolande and get to work!

*Scene fades to black.*
