Master thread for not only Ocean of Hopelessness: Redux, but other works set within the same continuity for the sake of organization. “If I am mad, it is mercy! May the gods pity the man who in his callousness can remain sane to the hideous end!” ~H.P. Lovecraft "The Temple" The Wilting Rose With Espina Rosa's fall, a location for a new prison is sought out. Under the command of Captain Roland, his squad of what could best be described as misfits set out through Doomwood to uncover such a location with little information to go on besides some rumours. Chronologically the first story in the series delving into the history and nature of Arkham Asylum. Credit to Dwelling Dragonlord for the title. A New Home. A New Home Discussion A young man from Amityvale learns a grandfather he doesn't recall meeting left him a house in the obscure town of Dunwich. What was supposed to be a journey into adulthood becomes a terrifying struggle to maintain his sanity. Prequel to Ocean of Hopelessness: Redux introducing locations and at least a prominent character in the main work. Ocean of Hopelessness: Redux. A young Ascendant experiences a vision involving the stars above accompanied by a mysterious voice. Traveling through Doomwood, she meets a Soulweaver in the strange town of Innsmouth and the two share horrifying experiences in forgotten parts of the region. Elsewhere, Baron Jaysun Valtrith prepares to challenge Kathool. The rewrite. Prelude and first two chapters remain similar to the original while the third chapter and beyond is where the differences begin to show. The Long Dark. The Long Dark Discussion A Paladin wanders the halls of Arkham Asylum, slaying the undead that haunts its halls, but the deeper they venture into the asylum, it becomes apparent things are not as they seem. Set some time after Ocean of Hopelessness: Redux building on a prominent location and offering some background on a minor character. The Hunter Set some time in Lore's future, The Hunter follows the travels of a Shadow Hunter who puts more emphasis on the Hunter aspect of their job as they track and slay monsters that the world's great heroes have not slain themselves. But it's not just the prey that attempt to track the hunter, but memories of a past life and how those events shaped them continue to not only haunt, but hunt The Hunter even in their dreams when transported to a strange world unlike their own. Ocean of Hopelessness. Ocean of Hopelessness Discussion The original work left unfinished due to too many inconsistencies with DragonFable that'd take far too much effort to go back and correct and I think writing it off an AU fic is kind of a cop out. Serves as the foundation of the rewrite. Potential Future Stories Ideas for stories I may write in the future that I mentioned in other discussion threads. How they'll fit chronologically is up in the air, this is really just so I don't forget and if anyone is actually following this, maybe they might like this. Story set in the Sandsea as for when, who knows. Maybe I'll try to keep it ambiguous, but any references to in-game events would give it away. Expect madness in the desert. Story reminiscent of Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of the Madness," set somewhere probably made-up in Dragesvard. Something set in the jungles of Sho'nuff Island involving what the locals refer to as The Skintaker. "If Only I Had A Heart" - Originally planned to be a spin-off story from the original "Ocean of Hopelessness," but with the rewrite and given how it initially came out of nowhere, I scrapped that aspect of the idea, but am still fond of the idea. Starring a spectre or something, I'm not actually sure what it was beyond being something with red eyes and a penchant for devouring living things to sustain itself and discovering new emotions while huntings its prey. "The Darkness Is My Lantern" - A Paladin slays the undead and forces of darkness without a second thought, but how many wonder what the ghosts, zombies, and skeletons were like during their life? "On This Day" - Short story from the point of view of Iustitia reminiscing about their life and the events of "Ocean of Hopelessness: Redux"
