<Character>: After being frozen for so long...
<Character>: Everyone's older... Falconreach has changed. The world's changed.
<Character>: But moments like this... They still feel the same, don't they, <Dragon>?
<Dragon>: Yeah... | *Comfy rumble*
<Character>: This is nice, though.
<Dragon>: Yeah... | *Comfier rumble*
*A brief pause as your nostalgia fades to concern.*
<Character>: But outside of Falconreach... with The Rose and the Vind...
<Character>: Magus Hansa wasn't so bad, but what The Rose is doing in Betrubung Swamp is...
<Dragon>: Well... We're heroes, right? It's up to us to do what's right! | *Supportive growl*
<Character>: ...
<Character>: I hope Ash can get everything sorted out for the Vind's supply lines.
*Spruce stops cleaning and turns to look at you.*
Spruce: Pardon my eavesdropping but...
Spruce: Did you mention supplies?
<Character>: Oh! I'm sorry, Spruce, was I talking too loud?
Spruce: You're fine, <Character>! I should be the one to apologize! I couldn't help but overhear!
Spruce: But, umm...
Spruce: Setting up any supply lines at all might be difficult right now...
Spruce: I heard some travelling merchants mention that they had just barely escaped some giant monster on the road south of here.
Spruce: I think The Rose was going to send a patrol to make sure everything is safe but...
Spruce: If what the merchants said was true, it might take a real hero, like you, <Character>!
Spruce: A-and you too, <Dragon>! (Please don't eat me!)
Spruce: Sorry! I know you're trying to take a break! I'll get back to work!
<Character>: It's- it's okay, Spruce...
*You contemplate Spruce's information and know what must be done.*
<Character>: Even if Ash manages to convince the Guardians to help, if The Rose is patrolling, and there's a monster...
<Character>: Guess it's up to us, right, <Dragon>?
<Dragon>: Maybe... Maybe tomorrow? | *Sleepy growl*
<Character>: Yeah, you're right.
<Character>: We've earned a rest.
*Soft lullaby music plays; the next morning outside the Book 3 Falconreach Inn, you and your dragon meet with Ash to discuss your plans.*
Ash: Good morning, <Character>, <Dragon>!
Ash: So, there's good news and bad news.
Ash: The good news, is that I got the Guardians to agree to help!
Ash: Apparently there are even some people in Swordhaven who aren't exactly fans of The Rose.
Ash: So once we get communications up and running, the Vind should be able to get all the funding and supplies they need!
Ash: As for the bad news...
<Character>: The monster?
Ash: Oh, you've heard?
<Character>: Spruce mentioned it last evening in the Inn.
Ash: Seems like some sort of creature is attacking merchants and travellers on the road to the south.
Ash: Everyone so far has managed to escape with their lives, but at the cost of any goods they're carrying.
Ash: A supply chain would probably be easy prey for such a monster.
Ash: The Rose has sent a patrol but...
<Character>: <Dragon> and I were planning to take a look for ourselves anyway.
Ash: Thank you, <Character>!
*You fight your way through various Hoardling monsters until you reach The Hoarder, surrounded by various Rose soldiers, including Cinquefoil, and their Rose Captain.*
Rose Captain: Stand back! We don't know what this monster will do next!
Rose Captain: This isn't the place for–
Rose Captain: Wait- <Character>?
<Character>: ...Hi?
Rose Captain: It's... It's really you!
<Character>: Umm.. hello! Do I... know you?
Rose Captain: I... well... you saved me! Years ago!
<Character>: ...I'm sorry... You might have to be more specific...
Cinquefoil: Ahem.
Rose Captain: I suppose you've saved a lot of people, haven't you. You and... <Dragon>!
Cinquefoil: Ahem!
Rose Captain: You were my inspiration to join The Rose! You were... a lot of peoples' inspiration, really.
Cinquefoil: The uh, monster is uh...
Rose Captain: And now... you've come to my rescue once more!
Cinquefoil: Captain!!!
Rose Captain: Er- yes, scout, was there something-
Cinquefoil: The monster, Captain! (Also, hi, <Character>!)
<Character>: Maybe we should deal with the problem at hand, first?
Rose Captain: Right!
Battle! - begins battle with The Hoarder.
Heal - fully replenishes HP, MP, and potions.
Run Away! - returns to Sulen'Eska.
*You fight The Hoarder, which had been sneaking closer to the Rose Captain during your conversation; after the battle, the Rose Captain reveals their plan to shackle the unconscious beast.*
Rose Captain: Good job, <Character>! Now let's get this thing shackled before it wakes up!
<Character>: The... shackles? Wait! Stop!
Rose Captain: What- what's wrong with the shackles?
<Character>: The Rose- The shackles-
<Character>: You're enslaving the monster?
Rose Captain: <Character>? What are you talking about?
Cinquefoil: Yeah, <Character>... What are you talking about?
<Character>: Haven't you seen what's happened to imprisoned Clawkin?
<Character>: And other creatures besides! Even dragons?
Rose Captain: What are you talking about, <Character>? What Clawkin? What dragons?
Rose Captain: We use these to pacify creatures so that we may transfer them into the care of the Beastmaster, back in Swordhaven.
Rose Captain: I would have thought that would be something you would approve of, <Character>?
Rose Captain: It never occurred to me to use these as tools of... enslavement.
Cinquefoil: ...
<Character>: So even within The Rose, you don't know everything that's going on!?
Rose Captain: I...
Rose Captain: If anyone else came up with these wild allegations I'd have dismissed them without a second thought, but...
Cinquefoil: <Character>. Explain.
<Character>: Vi- Cinquefoil, er... Rose Captain...? You really weren't aware of the operations in Betrubung swamp?
Rose Captain: I... I had some friends assigned to it. I heard it was dangerous...
Cinquefoil: You know, I've heard the rumors... but...
Cinquefoil: You've seen it for yourself, <Character>?
<Character>: I have. All the atrocities The Rose has been committing in the name of keeping people safe.
<Character>: They burned down a Clawkin settlement! They manipulated dragons and attacked a camp of peaceful Dravir!
<Character>: You really haven't heard about any of it!?
Rose Captain: No... This... This can't be. I wanted to be like you! I wanted to help people...
Cinquefoil: Then it's even worse than I thought...
*Cinquefoil, the Rose Captain, and the other Rose soldiers process this new revelation.*
<Character>: Cinquefoil, do you know what happens to creatures that are brought back to Swordhaven?
Cinquefoil: If you're wondering about the Beastmaster... He's real.
Cinquefoil: And as far as I know, he does take care of any creatures that are brought in...
<Character>: You're sure?
Rose Captain: I- I've seen him! And the creatures he takes care of... they seem fine...
Cinquefoil: <Character>. You know how I feel about harming monsters.
Cinquefoil: In another... time, I might have even helped them gather gold.
Cinquefoil: If I thought there would even be a chance that they would come to harm...
Cinquefoil: I assure you, this creature will be safe.
Cinquefoil: And I... I will do what I can to get to the bottom of what's happening in Betrubung Swamp.
Cinquefoil: Clearly, most of us have been told something very different.
Rose Captain: Then... is it okay to put shackles on this one?
*You are hesitant to agree to the shackling of The Hoarder, despite Cinquefoil and the Rose Captain's testimonies.*
<Character>: I...
<Character>: I don't know.
<Dragon>: I think it will be okay! | *Reassuring purr*
<Dragon>: The Cinquefoil lady smells trustworthy. (And familiar!) | *Happy glance at Cinquefoil*
<Dragon>: And I think... | *Pondering grumble*
<Dragon>: We're doing what we can to help. All of us are! | *Hopeful roar!*
Cinquefoil: Talkative little fellow, aren't you?
<Dragon>: Hi, I like you! | *Cheerful chirp*
<Character>: Well, if <Dragon> think's it's okay...
<Character>: ...Alright then.
*Your dragon convinces you to trust this group of Rose soldiers, and the Rose Captain carries out the shackling of The Hoarder.*
Rose Captain: I'll... keep an eye out for those allegations, <Character>.
Rose Captain: It was... an honor to meet you again, Ma'am/Sir!
*Once the Rose Captain and other Rose soldiers have left, presumably to take The Hoarder to the Beastmaster, you and Cinquefoil have a private conversation.*
Cinquefoil: ...So it was true.
<Character>: Yeah. Everything awful you heard about... It was happening.
<Character>: And the resistance is growing too.
Cinquefoil: And soon... there will be conflict...
Cinquefoil: Fueled by the lives of those with only the best intentions...
<Character>: Cinq- Robin- er... Victoria...
Cinquefoil: ...
Robina: There has to... There has to be a way for this to not come to war.
Victoria: I- I'm going to return home. Talk to my father. The King.
Victoria: I'll see if I can set up a... a parley at least.
Victoria: There has to be some way we can all come to an understanding!
Victoria: I just hope Jaania... I just...
<Character>: I know you'll do your best, Victoria!
Victoria: Thanks, <Character>.
<Character>: Oh! And um, the Vind is planning to set up some supply lines through Falconreach...
<Character>: So if The Rose could maybe... not patrol the area as well...?
Victoria: Right! I was wondering why you showed up conveniently! That... makes a lot of sense!
Victoria: I'll do what I can. The more conflict we can avoid, the better.
Victoria: See you around, <Character>, <Dragon>.
<Character>: Take care, Victoria!
*Scene fades to black; once back in Falconreach, you inform Ash of your mission's success.*
<Character>: ...and then I came straight back here.
Ash: Wow.
Ash: Well, everything is going to be set up for the supplies. Looks like Kara has listed a... "Taivas" to be the intermediary.
Ash: I suppose you can return to Sulen'Eska now, and let Kara know we're all set on our end.
<Character>: You're... doing well, Ash?
Ash: I am! A bit busy, and a lot of responsibilities but... well. I had a great teacher.
Ash: You!
*You glare at Ash, seemingly mildly displeased by his compliment.*
Ash: Er... Until next time, <Character>!
<Character>: Bye, Ash!
*After you and your dragon head off, Ash continues to display his admiration for you in private.*
Ash: Phew. It's tough being a hero, isn't it? But <Character>...
Ash: There's really no one like her/him.
*Scene fades to black.*

This quest replaced B.F.C. with new dialogue, artwork, structure, music, and a level 90 reward; more information can be found in the September 24th, 2021 Design Notes.
