Dialogue
Myalos

???: Greetings.
???: You must be the champions of the Avatars.

Myalos: I am.

Myalos: I appreciate your... mercy.
Myalos: Regarding Lock and Key, if I may ask, where are they?

Myalos: I see. Then we are safe, for a time. I imagine you have many questions.

Myalos: This construct, the entirety of this mech, is designated "Myalos". It is my body, and I am the mind.

Myalos: There lies the problem at hand.
Myalos: While most of my memory is fragmented, I can recall small pieces of my origins.
Myalos: I remember a war against a foe that threatened to consume all.
Myalos: I remember an explosion, one that knocked out my systems and set me adrift.
Myalos: I remember... a feeling of loss. Of a mission not failed, but simply ended.
Myalos: And then an awakening. Systems normal, save one error.
Myalos: An extraneous mechanism had been implanted at my core.

Myalos: A seed.
Myalos: When I attempted to remove it, I discovered its purpose.
Myalos: It was gradually wresting control, rewriting me.
Myalos: First I lost control of the power supply, and then I lost control of the internal defenses.

Myalos: Yes. It is also why I was originally imprisoned by the Avatars.
Myalos: As the seed mechanism took control of me, it began repurposing parts of this mech, my body, to create and send out machines of war.
Myalos: These destructive machines did not go unnoticed. Nor did their apparent source.

Myalos: Me.
Myalos: The Avatars sent an army of their servants who forced their way in and retrieved the core of my mind and sealed it away.
Myalos: By doing so, they halted the corruption process, and the seed mechanism could no longer use me for its purposes.

Myalos: Regrettably, I had degraded to such a state where I could only sense that there were invaders.
Myalos: I knew not their motives, and so with my attention split between holding off the corruption and holding off the unknown force...
Myalos: ...the corruption took advantage.
Myalos: My saviors did not know where they were going, nor exactly what they were seeking, only that this was the source of the machines.
Myalos: They found me and took me, stopping the corruption, but did not find the seed.

Myalos: When we, designated the Maleurous, were released...
Myalos: ...Lock and Key realized that despite the distance, the corruption process had begun anew.
Myalos: They returned me here to attempt to slow down the corruption, and thus far, I have managed.
Myalos: Lock and Key were unable to disable the seed mechanism. They refused to enter its chamber, and could not explain why.
Myalos: And so I waited, holding the corruption at bay, until they returned with a plan. With word of you, the champions of the Avatars.

Myalos: Regrettably, in exchange for delaying full corruption, I allowed it to seize some vital aspects of this mech.
Myalos: As mentioned before, the power source has been under its control since nearly the beginning.
Myalos: When the seed falls, so too will my supply of energy.

Myalos: Not... entirely.
Myalos: As you may see, I am currently in the process of creating a new, smaller, less catastrophic body for myself.
Myalos: However, for the next vital steps of construction, I do not trust the corruption to simply leave me be.
Myalos: You will destroy the seed mechanism. With the reserve power, Lock and Key will aid me in finishing my new body.
Myalos: And without a viable power source, none will have to worry about this mech wreaking havoc.

Myalos: Assuming he does not mean mere death and destruction, I do not. Nor do I intend to become corrupted enough to understand.

Myalos: That will not be necessary.
Myalos: I apologize for the inconvenience. When I sensed the presence of the seed fade, I could not wait.
Myalos: I initiated a system refresh to finally cleanse myself of its foul influence. It appears that my boot sequence went longer than I anticipated.

Myalos: A refreshing nap. Waking up.

Myalos: I am not. The seed no longer corrupts or controls me. I am finally free.
Myalos: My power reserves are draining, but I should have enough to complete my body.
Myalos: Thank you, champions of the Avatars.

Myalos: Most assuredly. Please send Lock and Key in when you reach them.
Myalos: And thank you once again. It is difficult for me to convey this, but you have done me a priceless service.
Myalos: I am free, but I will forever be in your debt.

Myalos: Heroes...

Myalos: Freedom...

Reactivation

Myalos: I see. Even if I were to finish my body and leave this shell, the Maleurous still have designs for the remains.

Myalos: I... see.

Myalos: ...I know what must be done.

Myalos: No, this is sound. I would have liked to... explore... but...

Myalos: Am I not free to make this choice for myself?

Myalos: Logically, if the Maleurous wish to exploit the shell to their own ends, then if the shell were gone, there would be nothing to exploit.

Myalos: This unit was created for interstellar travel. I could power it up, launch away from this planet. No longer be present.
Myalos: However, my power reserves are dwindling.
Myalos: Were I to follow through with such a plan, there would not be an opportunity to finish my body. I would drift until the reserves of power ran out.

Myalos: I believe this is the only option.

Myalos: Lock. Key. Thank you, but I believe <Character> and Uaanta will need your help defending me while I... brush off some of my old systems.

Myalos: This is my choice to make. I will do as heroes do. I will make a sacrifice for the greater good.

Myalos: My sensors indicate that the first of our unwelcome guests have arrived. I suggest haste.

Reclamation

Myalos: None will control my destiny but myself.
Myalos: Thank you, heroes.

Myalos: Thank you, Lock and Key.

Myalos: You!

Myalos: No... This... This does not comprehend.
Myalos: You are going back on your deal with the heroes! Deceiver! Liar!
Myalos: You are not welcome here!

Myalos: I have no interest in being of assistance.

Myalos: And if I shut off air and power?

Myalos: Regardless, power levels are quickly falling. When depleted, this shell will be of no use to you.

Myalos: ...

Iconoclasm

Myalos: We meet again, heroes.

Myalos: Lock and Key. My saviors.
Myalos: A peaceable solution, though viable, is inefficient.

Reality

Myalos?: "Hi, it's me, your buddy Myalos! I think we should help Remthalas!"

Myalos' Dream

Myalos: Memories. Such... fleeting memories.

Myalos: I... was a hero. And I am once more.

Myalos: <Character>. Uaanta.

Myalos: Was that a... dream?

Myalos: I am sorry. I do not remember beyond what we experienced together. But I feel... a profound sadness.

Myalos: I am here.

Myalos: I do not envision myself as belonging to a physical form. I do not require one.
Myalos: But I can see and think... and dream, apparently.

Myalos: A shared dream... Yes. I... I believe I can help guide you.

Myalos: I understand.

Myalos: Yes. I can see the path to Notha.

Myalos: Indeed. We're heroes, after all!

Notha's Dream

Myalos: Notha Ly'Ehr, despite what you may wish to think, we are real, and we are here.

Myalos: It is not necessary. I can accompany you as I am.

Myalos: ...Is it?

Myalos: Well, actually, Lock and Key and I have been—

Myalos: The power... of a dream...

Rebirth

Myalos: We have arrived.

Myalos: ...

Myalos: I cannot sense Lock and Key anymore.
Myalos: Their guidance was growing more distant the deeper we went, but now...
Myalos: As we stand on the edge, I no longer sense their presence.

Myalos: I believe we will find Remthalas ahead. I will continue to guide us to the best of my ability.

Myalos: Onward, heroes!

Myalos: Sorry. Somebody gave me an unwieldy body.

Myalos: ...

Myalos: We are not here for "fun".

Myalos: Be on your guard.

Myalos: We are here and listening.

Myalos: I... No... I feel like I am... missing something...

Myalos: ...We?

Myalos: I suggest we prepare for combat. This... is likely going to become a hostile situation.

Myalos: ...Heroes do what must be done.

Maleurous Epilogue: Remembrance

Myalos: ...I do not have the required mechanical processes to ingest food.
Myalos: But I'm sure it's delicious.

Myalos: Of course.

Myalos: I...do not recognize any of these designations.
Myalos: I am sorry I cannot be of any more help.

Myalos: I do have a curiosity though. Remthalas mentioned things repeating or staying the same...
Myalos: Just how old is Kathool?

Myalos: ...Who knows?
Myalos: Maybe it is as ancient as I am, or older. And perhaps its memories are just as frayed.

Myalos: Yes, <Character>?

Myalos: Notha offered me that which I wanted most.
Myalos: Life. A new form.

Myalos: If I survived, I did not know what would happen to me. Perhaps I would have been free.
Myalos: There is a very distinct possibility that the Avatars would have imprisoned me or attempted to coerce me into their service.

Myalos: A corrupting seed.

Myalos: Shadowscythe.

Myalos: ...
Myalos: I was free, but I held no gratitude for the Avatars.
Myalos: Uaanta and <Character>, you freed me despite the Avatars' orders.
Myalos: They would have been just as content to see me destroyed or subjugated by themselves.
Myalos: I would never be free to exist while they remained.

Myalos: Given their previous behavior patterns, it was a logical inference.

Myalos: Despite Notha's eagerness, and her own obsessions, I never felt used or coerced, as I feared from Remthalas.

Myalos: ...

Myalos: I would like to explore more of this land, as well.

Myalos: As one journey ends, another begins.
Myalos: Such is the hero's story.

Recreation!

Myalos: Excuse me, <Character>. This worm-bait does not appear to be cooperating.

Myalos: Your sacrifice will bring sustenance to many. Your suffering will not be in vain.
Myalos: You are a hero, small one.

Myalos: I am fine. The hero worm-bait, less so.
Myalos: However, my sensors indicate that a storm is approaching fast. Will this have a negative effect on our day out?

Myalos: The precipitation will increase our chances of success? That is good.

Myalos: <Character>! My sensors indicate that it is currently raining.

Myalos: I am glad to assist.
Myalos: Come, hero worm-bait! The time has come for us to forge our own fate!

Myalos: ...Hero worm-bait appears to have perished.

Myalos: Hello.

Myalos: Then Remthalas' sacrifice was in vain?

Myalos: Anything. Even the smallest assistance.

Myalos: It must be done.

The Dreamers' Abyss

Myalos: We shall stand ready, regardless.

Myalos: You would risk everything against such a powerful foe?

Myalos: ...I see.

Myalos: This is your sacrifice to make, Notha, but I believe it is a worthy one.

Ancient Abyss: Epilogue

Myalos: Please, let us not fight amongst ourselves.

Myalos: I concur.

Myalos: A fitting end.

Myalos: Is there something wrong, Notha?

Myalos: ...
Myalos: "If not me and my kind, then who else...?"
