Isn't it good to be out of that stuffy tower? Jaania: It... is nice. *Jaania pauses before continuing to talk about the reconstruction of the Dreamwood.* Jaania: How fares the reconstruction of the Dreamwood? Kara SuLema: Last I heard, it was proceeding according to schedule. Kara SuLema: But they were... quick to close off general communications after receiving The Rose's supplies and aid. Jaania: ...I see. Jaania: After my mistake, I cannot blame them. Jaania: And how are your fellow wind elves doing here on the mainland? Kara SuLema: Many humans are still distrustful of us. We struggle to find our place. Kara SuLema: The memories of war remain fresh in all our peoples' minds. Jaania: The tragedies never truly end, do they? *After talking about the reconstruction of the Dreadwood, Kara changes subjects.* Kara SuLema: But it is such a beautiful day! Kara SuLema: Why don't we talk of gentler subjects? Jaania: R-right... Sorry, Kara. Jaania: ... Kara SuLema: Relax. Breathe easy, Jaania. Kara SuLema: Peace will come. It will take time, but I have hope. *Jaania drinks some tea.* Jaania: Yes. Yes, you're right, of course. Jaania: There will be peace. *Back in present day, Kara wakes up in a tent on Sulen'Eska.* Taivas Hyle: Kara? Is everything okay? Kara SuLema: Taivas? Y-yes. Kara SuLema: Sorry. I... I must have dozed off. Taivas Hyle: The advance force has returned victorious, and with new allies in the form of... dragons. Kara SuLema: Dragons? How... unexpected. Kara SuLema: I shall prepare to meet them shortly. Thank you, Taivas. *In the Sulen'Eska's meeting area, the Vind meet with the DragonLords.* Kara SuLema: Welcome to Sulen'Eska, DragonLords. Kara SuLema: I apologize. You must find our hospitality lacking for those of your station. DragonLord: Worry not! We came here to help, not to be pampered! Mritha: I should hope so. Kara SuLema: The Rose has been driven back, then? Kara SuLema: You've returned with new friends, but I can smell the smoke and ash from you all. Kara SuLema: What has happened? <Character>: We succeeded. We forced The Rose to retreat, but... <Character>: ...Many Rose soldiers lost their lives, and the swamp nearly went up in flames from all the dragon fire. Melissa: You and Mritha getting worked up about some Rose soldiers. I don't understand it. Mritha: You've seen Carat and the other prisoners. <Character> has worked with some members of The Rose before, too. Mritha: They're people, with lives, and families, and hopes and dreams. Melissa: They signed up for war. Melissa: Don't you remember what they did to the Clawkin? To all the other refugees who have passed through? Melissa: To my people. To my family! *Mritha glares at Melissa.* Mritha: I didn't mean- There has to be a way to find peace, a common ground— Melissa: Do you truly expect us all to, what, just sit down for tea and forget everything? Melissa: No. I'm not interested in that. Nor, do I think, are The Rose. Kara SuLema: ... <Character>: We can't keep fighting like this, though. <Character>: With the DragonLords on our side, we've bought a reprieve, but it's only a matter of time before The Rose returns. Melissa: Let them come. They'll be taken by fire and swamp until they learn better. Mritha: And what about the rest of Greenguard? Of Lore? Mritha: There has to be another way. Kara SuLema: Another way... <Character>: Kara? Kara SuLema: This... couldn't be what she wanted. It can't be. *Kara realizes what Jaania wanted to do.* Kara SuLema: <Character>. I have a favor to ask of you. <Character>: Yes? Kara SuLema: I want you to travel to Swordhaven and seek an audience with Jaania. *A brief pause as the Vind think about Kara's command.* Mritha: You can't be serious. Melissa: Good thinking. Take out the top and the rest crumbles. <Character>: ...What exactly would be the purpose of this audience? Kara SuLema: I refuse to believe Jaania would approve of what The Rose has been doing. Kara SuLema: I want you to find out what's happening. Kara SuLema: Why does Jaania allow General Akanthus to enact his brutal campaign against all things magical? Mritha: And you expect The Rose to just let <Character> stroll up to the Ivory Tower? Kara SuLema: I don't know how you'll find a way, but I believe in you, <Character>. <Character>: You seem to know a lot about Jaania, Kara. Why don't you come with me? Kara SuLema: With tensions so high at the moment, and so much uncertainty, I can't say what might happen if I were to be discovered inside Swordhaven. Kara SuLema: But with your reputation, even if you were recognized, I imagine you should be safe. <Character>: I'll see what I can do. Kara SuLema: Thank you, <Character>. This means more to me than you can imagine. Mritha: I'll show the DragonLords and the dragons to their lodgings then. Melissa: And I'll organize the patrols to find any remaining Rose stragglers or scouts. Kara SuLema: Thank you. Kara SuLema: And thank you, DragonLords. Kara SuLema: As prepared as I was to flee, I am glad we can still call Sulen'Eska home. *In Sulen'Eska's middle level, Bajacu' and the Clawkins prepare to bid farewell to the Vind.* Bajacu': Thank you, Kara, for the shelter you provided us. Kara SuLema: Of course. You and your people are always welcome in Sulen'Eska. <Character>: You're leaving, Bajacu'? Bajacu': We are, <Character>. We Clawkin rarely stay in one place for long, and my people grow restless. Bajacu': But more than that, we tire of conflict. We fought to save the Dravir, and we fought again to secure your home. Bajacu': Our debt has been repaid, I think. <Character>: Where will you go? Is anywhere safe from The Rose? Bajacu': I do not know. Perhaps we will travel east, across the great seas, or south, beyond the windy plains. Bajacu': It will not be an easy journey. Niki: You could always stay in Betrubung, if you wish. Bajacu': And some of us have decided to do so and join your cause. Others still have gone to Falconreach and beyond, left the tribe. Bajacu': But I can feel the land stir. The time has come for our tribe to migrate once more. Bajacu': <Character>. Kara. Thank you for saving my people. Bajacu': I hope we may one day meet again. Kara SuLema: Farewell, Bajacu'. May the wind carry you to safety. *Bajacu' and the Clawkins leave Sulen'Eska.* Kara SuLema: Niki. Niki: Understood. I will make sure they do not come to harm in the swamp. *Niki leave Sulen'Eska in order to protect the Clawkins; now with only you and your dragon, Kara turns around and gives them directions to Swordhaven.* Kara SuLema: I suppose you two are off to Swordhaven then. Kara SuLema: Just follow the road west out of the swamp, past the checkpoint. I suggest not antagonizing any Rose soldiers along the way, if you can help it. <Character>: I wouldn't be much of an emissary of peace if I got into a bunch of fights along the way. Kara SuLema: Indeed not. *A brief pause as you ask Kara that she will be okay.* <Character>: Are you going to be okay, Kara? <Character>: The breakdown of the peace talks seemed to hit you quite hard. Kara SuLema: I appreciate your concern, but I will be fine. Kara SuLema: I have faith that peace will one day soon return to Greenguard. <Character>: And if Jaania isn't willing to listen to reason? Kara SuLema: Then I implore you to speak to King Alteon. The royal family and the nobles support The Rose. Kara SuLema: But if that connection can be squeezed or even severed, their influence will diminish greatly. Kara SuLema: Better to fight with words than lives. <Character>: I see. Kara SuLema: Take care, <Character>, <Dragon>. Kara SuLema: And feel free to return and stop by whenever you want. <Character>: Thank you, Kara. Be well. *You and your dragon look at Kara as she leaves; now alone with your dragon, you ask your dragon about their mission of seeking audience with Jaania.* <Character>: What do you think, <Dragon>? *Your dragon pauses before turning around as they dislike Jaania, but seeking audience with her is important for the greater good.* <Dragon>: I don't like Jaania. She froze you in an ice cube! | *Suspicious grumble* <Dragon>: But... It's worth a try! | *Hopeful chirp!* <Character>: ...You don't suppose she'll try to freeze me again, do you? <Dragon>: You know I won't let her. | *Protective growl!* <Dragon>: You're my human! | *Possessive yet endearing roar* <Character>: Yeah. I have nothing to fear with you around! <Character>: Have everything packed? Swordhaven awaits! <Dragon>: Don't forget the Dragon Snax! | *Hungry rumble!* *Scene fades to black.* Complete Quest
