*In Swordhaven, the citizens, panicked, look above as Eirn, whose face is hidden by his hooded cloak, observes them; it is revealed that Swordhaven's citizens were looking at a Rose airship approaching the Ivory Tower; in the Swordhaven Castle throne room, Queen Victoria demands Jaania tell her about the airship.*
Queen Victoria: And what, pray tell, Lady Jaania, is the meaning of this?
Queen Victoria: So soon after the trauma endured by Swordhaven's people from the Tytan, you bring this...
Queen Victoria: ... this airship, unannounced, above the city!
Queen Victoria: Many fell into panic thinking that the Tytan had returned!
Queen Victoria: Explain yourself!
Jaania: The citizens have nothing to fear. The airship is quite safe.
Queen Victoria: The citizens are not purely logical!
Queen Victoria: After the Tytan destroyed homes and livelihoods, they're still recovering from the trauma!
Queen Victoria: And you didn't answer me.
Queen Victoria: What is this airship doing above my city?
Jaania: It is the latest product of our endeavors with the gnomes.
Jaania: The Rose has made mistakes in the past, and we seek to right them.
Jaania: The airship is an unequivocal statement to all that The Rose is not an oppressive force, but an uplifting benefactor.
Jaania: Perhaps in time, we will be able to work with other races in harmony to construct similar marvels.
Jaania: It can also fly, as you've no doubt observed.
Jaania: It may prove useful in dealing with the Proclamation rifts, should another flying Tytan appear.
*After Jaania discloses her intentions with the airship, Victoria comes to understand her actions.*
Queen Victoria: I see.
Jaania: I assure you, I have nothing but the best of intentions.
Jaania: I hope the citizens of Swordhaven can come to understand that.
Queen Victoria: Forewarning would have been appropriate in this case, but we'll have to do what we can to calm the populace.
Jaania: I apologize. Another hard lesson learned. I will not make the same mistake again.
Queen Victoria: See that you don't.
Queen Victoria: You are dismissed.
*Jaania's footsteps can be heard as she leaves the throne room; Queen Victoria and Circe discuss Jaania's recent behavior.*
Circe: My Queen–
Queen Victoria: Yes, I know. She's hiding something.
Circe: And I see you declined to bring up the subject of your ailing sister.
Queen Victoria: From your report, I can still only assume that Lady Jaania is doing her best, even if General Akanthus is not to be trusted.
Queen Victoria: Princess Brittany is stable, and Lady Jaania is not the cause. At least, not directly.
Queen Victoria: I have to be careful. Most in Swordhaven support The Rose, especially after the Tytan was repelled.
Queen Victoria: I can't just accuse The Rose of poisoning a princess. Not without proof. There would be war in the streets.
Queen Victoria: No, my sister will have to wait.
Queen Victoria: Circe, see if you can find out what's going on with this airship. Lady Jaania isn't telling the full truth here.
Circe: It will be done.
*Scene fades to black; in Nieboheim, a vision of a soul geyser is cast as Vseslava wakes up from her vision in the Doomwood Ruins; Vseslava, now troubled, reveals her vision to the Resistance.*
Vseslava: This... This is not happening.
Vseslava: No. There must be some mistake.
<Character>: Vseslava! What happened?
*Kara SuLema heals the Golden Hand as you and the Resistance ask what happened in Vseslava's vision.*
Vseslava: There has been a... some sort of... incident in Nieboheim.
G. M. Hansa: Explain.
Kara SuLema: Hansa...
G. M. Hansa: If something has happened to the Magesterium, then it affects all of us.
Kara SuLema: She's clearly still recovering–
G. M. Hansa: World-ending threats don't care about that.
G. M. Hansa: If the Magesterium can no longer close these rifts, then it affects all of Lore.
Kara SuLema: I–
Vseslava: No, Magus Hansa is correct.
Vseslava: Forgive me, but I must assess the situation to approach the correct conclusion.
Vseslava: Something has happened in the Capitol. There was a blast of some sort...
<Character>: In Nieboheim? But how did that affect you and Ostromir all the way out here?
G. M. Hansa: Something happened to your magical presence before you both passed out.
G. M. Hansa: It remains diminished. Could that have to do with what you're describing?
*Your dragon can be seen flying through the air as the Resistance discuss the situation in Nieboheim.*
Vseslava: Our... magical presence?
Vseslava: This... this is unprecedented. There is no protocol for such an occurrence...
Vseslava: I do not know what could have...
Kara SuLema: It's okay. Take your time, Vseslava.
Vseslava: Back in Nieboheim, we have a certain treasure. The Shapeless' gift.
Vseslava: You could consider it the source of our power.
Vseslava: I can only assume that a terrible catastrophe has occurred to it, which led to... this.
Vseslava: As members of the Golden Hand, Ostromir and I have had less exposure to it. We are not entirely... dependant on it.
Vseslava: I suspect that is the only reason we are still alive.
Vseslava: Ostromir, you are still alive, are you not?
*Ostromir does not respond as he is still rendered unconscious by the Nieboheim incident.*
G. M. Hansa: He still lives, although you've recovered much quicker, it seems.
Vseslava: He has spent more time in the Capitol than I. It is likely that due to his greater exposure to The Shapeless' gift, he will need more time.
<Character>: Wait. What about the rest of the Magesterium?
Vseslava: They are likely dead. Or dying. It is hard to say.
Vseslava: This is not exactly something that has happened before.
Kara SuLema: Then... the people of the Shapeless Empire...
Vseslava: It is certainly a mess, is it not?
Vseslava: There are other Golden Hand divisions out in the world. There are Magesterium outposts where there are likely survivors as well.
Vseslava: I can try to get in contact with them.
G. M. Hansa: So this poses some problems for closing the rifts.
Vseslava: That is putting it lightly.
Vseslava: Even if by some miracle, the Magesterium survived, without The Shapeless' gift, we would not be able to close the rifts.
Eulin Verriton IV: So the connection between the Beyond and the Manufactory won't be closed?
<Character>: You don't have to be so excited about it, Eulin.
Eulin Verriton IV: I don't see why not! This is the perfect opportunity to begin building connections between our lands!
Kara SuLema: I'm sorry, Eulin, but that isn't possible.
Kara SuLema: As long as the rift remains open, elemental magic will continue to flow through and affect the lives of the people who live here.
Kara SuLema: These ruins are considered sacred by the wandering tribes that were displaced by the Energy magic from the rift.
Kara SuLema: Keeping it open would be unfair for them, and all else who live in Doomwood.
Eulin Verriton IV: But... if there's no way to close it...
*Your dragon can be seen lying on its back, wiggling its feet as the situation surrounding the Magesterium worsens.*
Vseslava: If Ostromir would wake his lazy head, we could still bring it under control. Shrink it to a manageable size.
Vseslava: Functionally closed, and under our control.
Raven: You can't do it yourself? Without him?
Vseslava: We each have our specialties. I could try, but it would be inefficient and dangerous.
<Character>: The Magesterium sent both of you over, at great risk and cost, with no backup...
<Character>: ... and if anything happened to either of you, then there wouldn't be a way to close the rifts?
Vseslava: Of course not. If anything happened to us, then another Golden Hand division would be assigned.
Vseslava: That most of the Magesterium are likely deceased is a significant flaw in that plan of action.
Thursday: Is there anything we can do to help him?
G. M. Hansa: The best I can tell, he's extremely exhausted. Perhaps the Magus of this area, Neron, could help.
Raven: That's right! Neron's a master of researching magical ailments and disease!
*Thursday realizes that she and Raven will be in trouble for running away from Amityvale without telling Neron.*
Thursday: Oh... We're going to be in so much trouble.
G. M. Hansa: You did neglect to inform him you both were running off to join <Character>.
G. M. Hansa: Worry not. I sent him a message after you two arrived. He was very understanding.
Raven, Thursday (in unison): Thank you, Grand Magus.
<Character>: I guess it's up to <Dragon> and I to go fetch Magus Neron, then?
Kara SuLema: What a splendid idea!
Vseslava: I do not wish to leave Ostromir.
G. M. Hansa: Well, if you're volunteering...
<Character>: Okay, I get it!
<Character>: A hero's job is never done. Come on, <Dragon>, let's go fetch a Magus!
If you have a Dragon Amulet:
<Dragon>: Lazy peons! You better be thankful!
If you don't have a Dragon Amulet:
<Dragon>: *Haughty roar!*
Mritha joins you as Guest B.
Mritha: I heard that!
*Your dragon glares at Mritha as she plans to accompany you.*
Vseslava: Thank you. You truly are a Hero.
Mritha: I'll go with you, <Character>.
Mritha: I've had enough of these ruins for a while, I think.
Mritha: And it would be good to pay Odgne a visit in person.
<Character>: Thank you, Mritha.
Raven joins you as Guest A.
Raven: No one else is volunteering? I'll go then.
Vseslava: Raven... Ostromir told me about–
Raven: Of course he did.
Vseslava: Thank you. And... I am sorry.
Raven: Sure. <Character>, are you ready to head out?
Raven: It was about my parents. Let's move on.
*You glare at Raven, unsatisfied, but don't push for clarification.*
<Character>: Got it. We'll be back soon, everyone!
*You fight your way back out of the forest surrounding the Doomwood Ruins through various Energy monsters; you, Mritha, and Raven manage to find Magus Neron and a few Rose soldiers to ask for Neron's help regarding Ostromir's condition.*
<Character>: Magus Neron!
<Character>: What are you doing so far from Amityvale?
Magus Neron: Ah, <Character>. And Raven!
Magus Neron: And Mritha of the Vind as well.
Magus Neron: It is good to see you all. As for my little expedition here...
Magus Neron: With the retreat of the Energy beasts, I thought I would journey into the forest to survey the damage.
Raven: Magus Neron! Sir! I'm... sorry that Thursday and I ran off without telling you...
Magus Neron: There was no harm done this time, but please make sure to inform me when you next decide to abandon your post.
Raven: Yes, sir!
Magus Neron: And how is your condition? The moon has been kind these past few days, thankfully.
Raven: It's... I've been fine.
Magus Neron: Then all is well.
Magus Neron: And DragonLord Mritha! You'll be pleased to hear that your Vind forces have been instrumental to the defense of Amityvale.
Mritha: I am glad to hear it. The townsfolk are safe, then?
Magus Neron: As safe as Amityvale can be.
<Character>: I'm sorry, Magus Neron, but we need your expertise for something of an emergency.
<Character>: Maybe we can catch up later?
Magus Neron: I apologize, <Character>. I should have assumed, with the storm still raging, that there is still work to be done. What do you require of me?
<Character>: One of the members of the Golden Hand has fallen to exhaustion, or worse.
<Character>: Until he recovers, they won't be able to bring the rift under control, and the storm and energy elementals will continue to rampage.
Magus Neron: The Golden Hand? Ah, that must be the Shapeless Empire's delegation to the alliance.
Magus Neron: Very well. Let us see how I may be of assistance.
*Scene fades to black; elsewhere, in complete darkness, unknown voices can be heard...*
Adamant DragonLord: We're not letting them in! Keep those gates closed!
Tired Refugee: Please! We only followed the dragons because we had nowhere else to go!
Unsure DragonLord: What do you mean? Dragesvard–
Terrified Refugee: Dragesvard has fallen!
Unsure DragonLord: Fallen? Just like that? Avatars, there are so many of you...
Adamant DragonLord: We can't let them in, can we? I don't think we can support that many people...
Scared Refugee: My son is sick! Please! Take him, if not me!
???: Let them in.
???: Let them all in.
???: I shall provide.
Stepping on a lightning circle will remove 30% max HP from the player and any guests.
HP-only and MP-only healing pads can be found throughout the quest.
Pop-up headlines during the quest:
Raven: "Watch out for that lightning!"
Mritha: "Seems like there's still some elementals to clean up."
Raven: "So, Mritha, I guess... I'm curious. What's it like in the Vind?"
Mritha: "What do you mean? We're like a huge family. We take care of each other."
Raven: "Oh! That's kind of how it is in The Rose. At least, under Magus Neron's command."
Mritha: "Is it, now?"
Raven: "Yeah. We're very serious, but we're all working together to keep everyone safe."
Mritha: "Not to burst your bubble, Raven, but The Rose has done a lot of awful things outside of Doomwood."
My body no longer aches!
Mritha: "Maybe here, The Rose does some good. But we've always been at odds elsewhere."
Raven: "Well, you seem pretty nice. For a Vind member."
Mritha: "You're not too bad for a Rose member, Raven."
Mritha: "Maybe I'll introduce you to Odgne. She's a good judge of people."
Raven: "Er, that's your dragon? Um..."
Mritha: "Haha, don't worry, she's not going to eat you. Unless I tell her to."
I feel reinvigorated!
Raven: "Haha... Right... That's... that's a joke, right?"
Mritha: "Of course."
