Dialogue
  • <Dragon> joins you as a pet.

*In Swordhaven, Jaania and Akanthus meet in the chamber where Princess Brittany continues to lie unconscious; Jaania heals her, while Akanthus stands watching.*

    Jaania: Brittany...
Jaania: I thought... I really thought I had it that time.
Akanthus: What of the last tincture you had me make?
Jaania: It worked. For a week.
    Akanthus: I see.
Jaania: At this point, I can only imagine it must be some kind of poison. Or multiple.

    Jaania: The only way...

    *Jaania looks at Akanthus.*

Jaania: I hate to ask, General Akanthus, but are you poisoning Princess Brittany?
    Akanthus: No, Lady Jaania.

Akanthus: I wouldn't dream of it.
    Jaania: ...
Jaania: Then perhaps... perhaps it is a malady of the soul.

    *Jaania continues to heal Brittany.*

Akanthus: Such afflictions are not unheard of.
Akanthus: Your research is progressing well, then?
Jaania: Indeed. The books you procured from the Shapeless Empire have been most enlightening.
Akanthus: I am ever at your service.
    Jaania: *Sigh*
Jaania: We must do what we can to keep the princess stable.
Jaania: If- no, when my plans are finished- when I have control, I'll be able to solve it myself.
Akanthus: Do you require my assistance? With Amadeus still missing, if you need anything, you need only ask.
    Jaania: Thank you, Akanthus.

*Outside the chamber, Circe, who is standing behind a pillar, eavesdrops on Jaania and Akanthus' conversation; meanwhile, in the Doomwood Ruins, you and the Resistance have arrived at the base of the rift; Ostromir and Vseslava prepare to close the rift.*

Kara SuLema: Prince Lupin, your forces have all been recalled from the surface?
Lupin Verriton: Indeed! Although, we should delay sending them home until the very last moment.
Lupin Verriton: A retreating army through the rift would be sure to spark intrigue, and draw more attention!
    G. M. Hansa: But your father is likely already aware of your defeat, is he not?
    Lupin Verriton: ...Probably.
Mritha: We don't have much time then, regardless. How's the progress on the focus?
Ostromir: We are working as fast as we can, although all the talking is quite distracting.
Vseslava: Ostromir, stop your whining. We have worked under more stressful conditions before!
Ostromir: As you say, Vseslava. The Golden Hand division Osiem shall not be stopped by mere annoyances!
    Raven: Hmph.
Thursday: Raven, I'm sure they're doing their best...

    *Raven glares at Thursday.*

    G. M. Hansa: What are your plans then, Prince Eulin? Assuming we can gain control of the rift, there won't exactly be room for diplomacy once the way is blocked.
Eulin Verriton IV: I've... given it some thought.
Eulin Verriton IV: It greatly saddens me to declare that you will be bereft of my glorious presence.
Ostromir: Oh no, whatever shall we do...
Eulin Verriton IV: Indeed, it's true. But this has been such a valuable experience!
Eulin Verriton IV: I've seen the Beyond with my own eyes! I've been proven right that war and conquest isn't the only way for the Manufactory!
Eulin Verriton IV: I've done more than I could have ever dreamed, and I've met all of you!
Eulin Verriton IV: But the Manufactory needs my leadership. And so, as much as it may pain you, I must go.
Eulin Verriton IV: My people need me.
Raven: We'll all miss you greatly, Prince Eulin.

*Everyone is silent after Raven's words of farewell to Eulin.*

    Raven: Right, everyone?
    Mritha: Huh? Yeah, sure.
    Thursday: Of course.
<Character>: I hate to interrupt, but is it just me or is something... big approaching the rift?

*Lupin, now alarmed, recognizes who is approaching from the rift.*

Lupin Verriton: I-It's... it's father! I thought we had more time!
Eulin Verriton IV: Don't worry, just let me do the talking!
<Character>: With all due respect, Prince Eulin, but we all saw how that worked out with Prince Lupin.
Eulin Verriton IV: I... just... I don't want to see my new friends and my family fight. It's not right!
    G. M. Hansa: Hold on to that idealism, Prince. It may not always be the answer, but we should always strive to be better.

*Eulin and Lupin's father, signified by a silhouette of his mechanical suit, is coming closer from the other side of the rift.*

<Character>: Ostromir, Vseslava, how are things looking? If you can't shrink the rift right this instant, you'll probably want to step back!
Ostromir: We are nowhere close! Shapeless take these foolish Lagohm!
Vseslava: Ostromir, we need to retreat!
Ostromir: "We are buying you plenty of time" they said! "Do not worry about the ruler of the Manufactory" they said!
Ostromir: Do you have any idea how much concentration it takes to–
Vseslava: Ostromir. We are retreating. Now.
    Ostromir: Fine.
    <Character>: Here we go...

*Eulin and Lupin's father emerges from the rift; meanwhile, in Warlic's Tower, Alexander and Lynn have a tea party while Warlic and Sepulchure discuss Akanthus and the Rose, with both of them also having tea at their table.*

Sepulchure: So. Blue wizard. What did you want to know?
Warlic: I appreciate your trust in me, Amadeus. How goes your recovery? I hope your accommodations have been comfortable?
    Sepulchure: I am well.

Sepulchure: Lynn is enjoying your hospitality.
Warlic: I am glad to hear it. You're welcome to stay as long as you need.
Warlic: But back to my questions. I want to know what happened to you. Tell me about General Akanthus.
    Sepulchure: Very well.
Sepulchure: General Akanthus joined The Rose during Jaania's defense against Yalla.
Sepulchure: Where he comes from is a mystery. From the information I've been able to gather, he's told many different stories to the right people.
Sepulchure: Whatever he needs to say to gain trust and stop further inquiry.
Warlic: Do you have any personal suspicions in particular on his origins?
Sepulchure: He seems to have an easier time obtaining information and goods from the Shapeless Empire.
Sepulchure: I would presume that he may have at least spent considerable time there.
Sepulchure: He also claims knowledge of the south, past the Fissure. But I cannot verify his claims to such.
Sepulchure: I cannot say with certainty from where he hails, besides most assuredly not from Greenguard.
Warlic: I see. And what of his goals?
Sepulchure: As enigmatic as his origin.
Sepulchure: Despite the trust and responsibility Jaania places in him...
Sepulchure: ...he has made considerable overaggressions and he also funds various... extreme subsects of The Rose.
Sepulchure: It would be easy to view him as an incredibly passionate yet somewhat inexperienced general.
Sepulchure: Yet his actions all appear to align with The Rose.
    Sepulchure: Except for the device.
Warlic: The device! Yes! The one he pulled from the ruins!
Sepulchure: That device is a thing of Doom. I believe it was some sort of power source, full of Darkness magic, and worse.
    Warlic: Was?
Sepulchure: He had me work on it. Threatened to oust my true form to Jaania.
Sepulchure: And so I converted it into a weapon, an explosive to be detonated.
    Alexander: You were used. Ha!
Sepulchure: But I never finished it. Knowing the destructive power of what I had been ordered to create, I refused to continue.
Sepulchure: And so, he attacked me.
    Alexander: Tastes bad, doesn't it.
Lynn: Do you need more sugar in your tea, Mr. Alex?
    Alexander: Yes, please, Lynn.
Sepulchure: He didn't recognize me. But he created that wound which you and the half-dragon tended to.
    Sepulchure: And so we fled.
Sepulchure: I don't know what he intends with the device. He doesn't aim for Swordhaven, so Falconreach may be a possibility.
Sepulchure: Given his past aggression, I could see him using it against the settlement to reignite the waning hatred of magic.
Sepulchure: Or perhaps he has grander goals.

Sepulchure: Jaania looks toward the fissure.
Sepulchure: I do not know what would happen if the device were dropped into it, but I know it would not be good.

*Warlic contemplates Sepulchure's words about Akanthus' plan.*

Warlic: I... see. We must inform Queen Victoria.

    Warlic: And Jaania...
Warlic: Why does Jaania trust him so much? If he has made so many mistakes as you've mentioned, and seems to be going behind her back...
Sepulchure: She trusts him with her life.
Sepulchure: I believe the story goes that during the campaign against Yalla, Jaania and a group of guards were ambushed by elves.
Sepulchure: Akanthus threw himself in front of Jaania as magic rained down, and somehow emerged unscathed.
Sepulchure: Jaania was able to retaliate with a spell, but they were the only two survivors.
Sepulchure: And before you ask, I do not know how Akanthus survived. He is powerful. Incredibly so. But I do not know from where that power is drawn.
Warlic: So she trusts him because he saved her life.
Sepulchure: So it would appear. Jaania is no leader. She is naive. She tries, but her own interests keep her attention.
    Warlic: Jaania... We should...
Sepulchure: I doubt she'll listen to you after your stunt with... Alexander.
    Warlic: ...
    Alexander: ...
Sepulchure: I will stay here, for now. But if you decide to go after Akanthus, I will join you.
Sepulchure: He threatened me, and therefore threatened Lynn.

Sepulchure: And so he must die.
Warlic: Thank you, Amadeus. I appreciate your assistance.
Warlic: I'll need some time to prepare. And think.
Warlic: If I need anything else, may I ask you?
    Sepulchure: So be it.

*Back in the Doomwood Ruins, Eulin and Lupin's father stands before you and the Resistance.*

???: Ahh. The Beyond. New land.
???: And a royal welcoming party! Greetings.
Thorin Verriton: I am King Thorin Verriton, ruler of the Manufactory.
Thorin Verriton: I see you've met two of my sons. And brought them low.
<Character>: King Thorin, I am <Character>, hero of this land. And this is <Dragon>.
<Character>: I must ask that you allow us to close the rift, in order to protect the people who live here.
Thorin Verriton: Hmph. A human and an undersized dragon is all that the Beyond could muster?
Thorin Verriton: Prince Lupin, I am disappointed.

    Thorin Verriton: And Prince Eulin...
Eulin Verriton IV: I warned Prince Lupin, and I'm warning you now, father. The hero should not be underestimated!
Thorin Verriton: Your judgement is as questionable as ever, Eulin.
Thorin Verriton: I have crushed many so-called heroes of the Wastes in my time.
Eulin Verriton IV: I just... I don't want to see anyone hurt, when we could just work together.
Thorin Verriton: These humans mean that much to you, Eulin?
Eulin Verriton IV: They do, father.

    *Thorin contemplates Eulin's warning.*

Thorin Verriton: I spoil you too much, princeling.
    Thorin Verriton: Hear me, beyondlings!

Thorin Verriton: I will challenge this hero and dragon in honorable combat!
Thorin Verriton: When I emerge victorious, your lives will be spared, and you will enter into servitude under Prince Eulin's command.
    <Character>: And when <Dragon> and I win?
Thorin Verriton: Ha! In that unlikely case, we will acquiesce, and leave your lands. Are these terms acceptable?
    G. M. Hansa: Knock yourself out. <Character> and <Dragon> have this.
Kara SuLema: We'll be cheering you on, <Character>!
Vseslava: Make it quick. Ostromir is getting impatient.

    *Ostromir appears to be unamused.*

    <Character>: Bring it on!

  • Battle! - begins battle with King Thorin Verriton.
  • Heal - fully replenishes HP, MP, and potions.
  • Run Away! - returns to The Royal Resistance - Rose Faction / Golden Hand Faction / Vind Faction.

*You and your dragon stand victorious after the battle with Thorin.*

If you have a Dragon Amulet:
<Dragon>: This "undersized dragon" just beat you up!

If you don't have a Dragon Amulet:
    <Dragon>: *Victorious roar!*

    <Character>: Good work, <Dragon>!
    Thorin Verriton: ...So...

Thorin Verriton: ...little Eulin was right.

*Thorin understands he has no choice but to honor his word after his defeat.*

Thorin Verriton: I am a Lagohm of my word. The Beyond shall remain beyond us.
<Character>: It doesn't have to be forever. I'm sure Prince Eulin would love to return some day, under a more diplomatic banner.
<Character>: But as long as the rift is uncontrolled, the hazards of your lands will leak into ours. And that puts our world at risk.
Eulin Verriton IV: If we can find some way to maintain a secure passage, I'm sure we'll be able to come to some sort of agreement!
Eulin Verriton IV: But before then, there's much to do back home, right, father?
Thorin Verriton: Perhaps you're wiser than I thought, Eulin.
    Lupin Verriton: Hmph.
Ostromir: Touching. So, shall we get to work?
Eulin Verriton IV: Yes. Go ahead.
Lupin Verriton: We'll start sending our forces back home as well. You won't need to worry about anyone being left behind.

    Some time later...

*Ostromir and Vseslava are now preparing to close the rift.*

    Ostromir: Almost...

*Just as the Golden Hand are about to close the rift, something stops them.*

    Vseslava: Ow! My head...
    Ostromir: Vseslava? What is the–

*The unseen problem that the Golden Hand are facing continues to persist.*

    Ostromir: Aagh!

*You are now noticing something strange is happening to Ostromir and Vseslava.*

<Character>: Vseslava? Ostromir? What's going on?
    Ostromir: Sudden... pain... headache...
Vseslava: I am going... to vomit...
<Character>: Prince Eulin, this isn't something the Lagohm have done, is it?
Eulin Verriton IV: No, I swear! I don't know what's happening either!
    G. M. Hansa: Their magic, it's as if part of it was just... no... no, this doesn't make any sense!
    Ostromir: Okay...

    Ostromir: Okay... I think...
Vseslava: I think I am still going to be sick.
    Ostromir: Vseslava, status?
Vseslava: Nausea. Head and chest pain. Numbness in extremities. Still functional.
Ostromir: Same. We need to finish our job. We need to secure the...

    *Ostromir passes out.*

    Vseslava: Ostromir?!

    Vseslava: Ostromir, speak to me!
    Vseslava: Ostro–
Vseslava: Os... Oh... Shapeless take me.

*Just like Ostromir, Vseslava too passes out; scene fades to black.*
